    I had a natural birth. I was in labor for 22hrs and pushed for an 1hr 45 mins. But still it was a good experience. For me it was actually more just intense and physically demanding than painful. I had watched Bridget Taylor’s videos on how to breathe through contractions and that helped me so much. I would say the worst pain like actually pushing her out was probably a 7/10. I just wanted to give that perspective. I know the pain is worse for some than others.

    Great video. Somewhat educational, if we won’t forget that everybody is different.
    I had 2 babies, both with epidural. But such a different experience.
    With my first I came in too early to the hospital. I was at my weekly appointment with OB/GYN and he said that I dilated to 3 cm and need to go to the hospital, cause I was having a contractions. My water did not broke. At the hospital nurses were coming to me 3 times asking to let them to brake my water, on 4th time I couldn’t hold the barrier and agreed. (After I gave birth I googled if it was necessary to broke a water and apparently no, that water was a cushion) So before they broke water I could manage contractions, but right after they broke it, OMG it was so painful, pain increased from 4 to 8 in a second , of course you will ask for epidural. So my thought to it, if they would leave me alone and let me to progress as it is I wouldn’t go for epidural. With epidural I felt every contraction, I felt an urge to push, I was shaky at some point of labor( it is natural effect of a body with or without epidural) but I did not have back pain, my legs were fine, I could walk right after delivery, I peed really fast. Btw they put catheter because you do not feel when you need to pee, you are numb in that area, you can not hold that muscles, so not pee yourself they have to put it in you.
    With my second labor I got to the hospital dilated at 8 cm , this time my water popped (same I did not have a crazy gush of it just dripping) And I was so sure that no one will offer epidural to me that I was so confused when they did. I do not remember saying yes to it cause I was fully in labor mode, unfortunately I was by myself, and nobody could talk on my behalf. In like 5 seconds anesthesiologist appeared and started the process. This time it was painful. I felt pain going to my left leg( he was in a rush, cause of my active labor, and I was having strong contractions so I couldn’t sit still) Bad idea, really bad idea, but hospital were making money out of me. They did not care. When they finished with epidural, they checked me and I was at 10 already. We started to push, but I couldn’t feel anything, I had to rely on nurses and my OB. At one point between contractions nurse told me if I want to push I can do it. I asked her if it my contraction, she said no, just to speed up the process🤦🏻‍♀️ That irritated me so much!!! Anyway I was able to walk right after delivery again, took a little longer to pee or 💩, but in next week(already at home) I struggled to stand up and walk. I had an awful pain from my back to my legs, at some point I thought I won’t be able to walk at all.
    Sorry for such a long comment, but can I just add couple advises from my experience: 1. Do not let medical stuff to brake your water unless it is medical emergency
    2. If you dilated closer to 10, you do not need epidural,Cause that will slow things.
    3. Always have somebody with you, husband, mom, friend, doula anybody who can protect your interests!!!
    3.

    I think it's important to note that first births are much longer (and therefore, often more painful and exhausting) vs second births which are much quicker since baby number 1 has already trailed the way. So comparing the two has to consider this huge factor! Also pitocin makes contractions more close together and intense (ie more painful), which makes women resort to an epidural more often

    I had a midwife and an induction, also after 12 hours of contractions and crazy pain, had an epidural and loooved it. But I was able to feel my contractions coming and was able to lift my legs. 2 hours active labor pushing and she was out! The epidural numbed me just enough so I could focus on pushing and not the pain. I was out of the hospital the following day. Took a walk around the hospital that evening! Everyone's experiences are so vastly different. Love your birth, however the outcome :) happy healthy mama's and babies.

    Recently had my first baby boy! I watched all the videos, read books and bought a course online for birthing naturally.. I created a birth plan and everything! I ended up being in labor for 27 hours.. let me tell you I WANTED that epidural so bad but it was too late! The last 12 hours or so were brutal!.. really no words to describe the pain! I was so exhausted and his heart rate was dropping so they ended up using the vacuum thing to help get him out faster! So unexpected and kinda traumatic to be honest! I think I would do it again without N epidural BUT I would make sure to have a doula with me and even consider going to a birthing center! I could tell the dr and nurses with me that night weren’t used to moms with no epidural. Which is unfortunate but I know having a doula next time will be game changer and just knowing now what to expect will help me mentally! Just happy me and baby are healthy!
    I’m with you on The catheter 😂 that was a big reason why I didn’t want the epidural! I’ve never had one and I just really don’t want one ahah!

I think it was the adrenaline or the cold from sudden blood loss (I hemorrhaged), but I remember being so hungry and wanting to order food but I couldn’t hold the hospital menu still enough to read it even an hour after she was born. Still it was an absolutely amazing experience that I highly recommend. It helps if you know you don’t plan on using pain medication you can do more mental and physical prepping for labor pain.

When the anesthesiologist came I was 7cm and was having intense and very painful contractions that were less than one minute apart. He noticed that my oxygen level was low and I wasn’t supposed to get the epidural but because they had to make money off me he went ahead and gave it to me, only just a tiny dose. This didn’t help me with pain, the pain got worse and it slowed down my labor, I was 9cm for more than three hours and was feeling a strong urge to push all through . I later got an episiotomy to help my baby come out, he was 3.5kg at birth. I feel my labor would’ve been better if my health practitioners were more considerate.

    My son only started dying after the epidural was placed and I only agreed to the epidural because I was pretty sure I was gonna need a c-section because of the literal incompetence I was witnessing with who I learned later was a 4th year resident. I saw her put something in my iv and she wouldn’t tell me what it was… I was very adamant about not wanting pitocin since she first said that word to me… I had fallen in my backyard and she decided that they needed to induce me, and when I hadn’t given birth by her next shift she decided that she needed to speed things up which I objected to because the shift before had told me everything was progressing fine and I didn’t need Pitocin if I didn’t want it which I didn’t… when my best friend had an epidural with her daughter, they had to call a code to save her life during her labor because she almost died…
    It was almost immediately after they placed the epidural that my son went into cardiac distress and his heart rate went lower than my resting heart rate which is 30-40 bpm… I’m screaming for them to just cut my six years in the making IVF rainbow baby and this 4th year resident is arguing that she “just needs more time” and started rolling me around on the bed as I’m wrapped around the Peanut ball from hell as I call it as I’m listening to my son dying on the fetal heart monitor. I’m screaming “IM A FUCKN NAVY CORPSMAN VETERAN! Just give me a Fuckn knife and I’ll do it my fuckn self if y’all are just gonna listen to this incompetent one over here!”
    she leaves the room saying she’s going to get more Pitocin so I know she was giving it to me against my will and because I couldn’t feel the connection with my son to breathe through my contractions like I had before the epidural even went they became more intense… I was only 1.5 cm before the epidural and my contractions were one right after another with no breaks… when they finally did the c-section I apparently only at 5 cm my husband told me…
    At one point during the c-section I heard them say “WE HAVE A baby…” trialing off and I heard “shhhh”s and then commotion as they rushed in a crash cart and I heard them doing code procedures as I fell asleep… then I woke up and heard him cry for the first time… my son was still born because of that incompetent 4th year resident who insisted on my getting an epidural which I didn’t want as well as she had an obsession with Pitocin…
    I keep seeing videos on Facebook and Instagram of mothers telling their families they are “just settling in for their inductions” and then it shows like “45 minutes later” with them holding a baby… that’s not healthy… people and their children are going to die… just like my son did and was lucky enough to be brought back…
    Seems to me, birth is a contest for L&D residents and possibly even full on doctors… My sons birth experience can’t just be an anomaly. There’s a lot more that went on but I don’t want to bore anyone as I prolly already have…
    I’ll never have an epidural again unless I’m gonna have a repeat c-section because of my past emergency c-section… and I’ll never have an induction again because I’ve read they are contraindicated if one has had a c-section…
    I’m also gonna have a doula… the only reason I didn’t have one this time was because they were hard to find during this pandemic…
    People need to pay attention to what the medical personnel are doing and don’t be afraid to speak up as in “if you see something out of sorts say something…” be your best advocate and know your rights as a patient.

    • @oyrsimaja
      @oyrsimaja Před rokem

      The other reason I’ll never have an epidural and one reason I didn’t want one in the first place is because birth is painful… not just for the one birthing, but the one being birthed… so I felt it would be selfish of me to not endure the pain right along with my child… for if my child can endure it who am I not to endure it with them.

    • @oyrsimaja
      @oyrsimaja Před rokem

      Oh and something else that was very interesting, I heard 3 other people laboring while I was there. The first one was beautiful and amazing! They even started chanting afterwards! I was very motivated by it! I had been cheering them on “you got this mama!” “You can do it!” Not loud basically to myself but it was very motivating to me to feel as if I was helping this laboring person especially if maybe they were alone.
      After I heard the baby’s first cry and the chanting, a medical staff yelled into my room “that was with no epidural! Are you sure you don’t want one?” “NOPE! I’m good bring on the pain! NO PAIN NO GAIN! IF MY CHILD CAN ENDURE IT SO CAN I! Pain is weakness leaving the body! What don’t kill me makes me stronger! IF THAT MOTHER CAN DO IT SO CAN I!”
      There was not answer from who ever it was…
      I feel they push these epidurals so hard because they just don’t want to listen to us laboring
      And they hurry inductions so they can get back to making their videos for Facebook and Instagram and such talking about what they supposedly hear patients say during labor as they dance around like snobby children that know everything to basically brag that they can “work hard and play hard at work and still remain competent.” So that they can “boost their morale”
      If this is “competent” health care in the American L&D, Goddess help us…

    Really interesting hearing your story. My first was natural (two hour precipitous) and traumatic. I tore and it took me a long time to heal. So for my second I had an epidural. Maybe they gave me a lighter dose than it sounds like they gave you because I could still move my legs and felt the urge to push. I was up, moving around an hour later after skin to skin time and I felt great. No pain and it was so relaxed and peaceful. I did have epidural site pain like you for a couple of weeks. I also got a UTI from the catheter. For my third, I had a natural birth because there wasn’t time for an epidural. I’m expecting my fourth and I’m going to play it by ear. Not sure what I’ll do.

    • @kleinemaus6094
      @kleinemaus6094 Před rokem

      Hi Sumayya!
      So, you're 36 weeks. In ordinary circumstances, you won't have dilated at all yet. Some women have a cm or two, especially if they've had more than one child before.
      At this stage in a healthy pregnancy, you'll have Braxton Hicks contractions, basically practice contractions. They feel different than real contractions, I felt them more at the top of my belly rather than the bottom, but I get them there too so that's not a given. Real contractions feel like period cramps.
      Some women (like me) experience what's called prodromal labor. Some call it false labor. If you get it, it can start as early as 37 weeks, or you could not have it at all. What prodromal labor looks like is mild contractions that start to get regular, then stop upon rest or a bath. With my fourth, every night I would get contractions around 4-5 minutes apart for a couple hours, then I'd take a bath and drink some water, lay down and they'd stop. That was my big clue I entered real labor-a bath and rest did nothing to slow them.
      So in short, no, you shouldn't be dilating yet, or contracting other than practice labor ☺️

      Your reply cleared my some doubts.
      Especially the one that I am not dialated yet and yes, I am having false labour.
      This is my first pregnancy through IVF at the age of 25.
      Our problem was that my amh level was low and my husband has asoospermia (no sperm present in semen bcs of blockage).
      My doc said that she will do SC delivery on 38 weeks bcs of IVF baby even though I and my baby is healthy.
      So, I changed the hospital and went to a doc who assured that she will try to do normal delivery.
      Does anyone know if IVF babies should be delivered in C - Section early or is it possible for them to be delivered vaginally?
      I am so scared, I want to dialate as soon as possible so that I wouldn't go to C - Section.

    I've had four children, and am currently 21 weeks with our 5th. 3 epidurals, one unmedicated, this one will be a home birth.
    Excluding extreme circumstances, childbirth is about *preparation.*
    Yes. It hurts. But it's not pain in the sense that every human knows (unless you're panicked, and start that fear-tension-pain cycle). For me, I spent a lot of time during Braxton Hicks pretending it was the real deal and focusing on my breathing. In for 4, out for 6.
    The biggest hurdle isn't the physical sensations. Its your mind. I thought that was a bit of hooey but it's absolutely correct.
    Unmedicated birth, even with the absolutely abysmal, bullying tactics of the hospital staff, was FAR better for me. Give me tha pain every day, with the ability to control what I'm doing to manage it, over being chained to a bed by a needle in my spine. For me, that made all the difference.

      I think your response was less about me "shaming" you and more about how you may have felt about your birth(s) personally, and that frankly isn't my problem. Is yours.
      I have no shade towards anyone who gets an epidural. But *for me* it was the best choice I ever made to go without. It changed the birt experience and also, unlike my previous 3 pregnancies, I did not have crippling Post Partum Depression and Anxiety after my unmedicated birth. That's *my* experience.

    Whether you put to birth naturally or by epidural honestly the most important thing at the end is that your baby is born. No one gets a trophy for putting to birth naturally or by putting to birth using an epidural. Plus you are not weak for choosing an epidural you are strong. Whatever you choose the most important thing is at the end of the day is both parties need to raise their kids and there’s no difference the kids born by epidural and those born naturally when you see them. Compare it to conceiving naturally or by IVF. Do any of such kids look different? It’s up to you to make a choice and do what suits you. Some people put to birth naturally and have terrible vagina tears and some people also put to birth by epidural get vaginal tears. The most important thing is to pray to the Lord Jesus and commit it in prayer before making a choice.

Yes, you raise children at the end and you have your baby no matter how you birth, but the labor and childbirth experience is very important. It can set the tone for PPD, as well. Unmedicated or epidural, women are badasses and they should feel empowered. No one expects a trophy 🙄. The experience is extremely important though.

And that's because my body was going into shock because I did not pass a clot well at first and my uterus was having a hard time clamping back down. It's not cause of natural childbirth, per se. My midwives we're able to take care of it pretty quickly and then I was doing much better again. But it could be a clot having a hard time passing in the afterbirth.

    Oh I had the shakes soo bad too but I had an epidural. I’m planning for a natural birth for my second because honestly I didn’t like the epidural experience. I think it was the experience I needed as a first time mom though. I was just so nervous about everything I went into it so unprepared. My water broke and no contractions started over 7 hours so they started pitocin and a few hours later I got the epidural.

      Definitely go for the natural and get a midwife. My water broke for my 1st at 10:30am and no contractions until like midnight. Baby was born naturally at 8:40am. My midwife was never concerned or mentioned any interventions.

    I have had epidurals with both of my babies and much rather prefer to have it. Yes some of the side effects suck but it is better than dying from the pain and women do die from the intense pain. I did not have any lasting back pain from my epidurals. Also they took off the IV after having an epidural so I was able to walk normally. Yes it was a little difficult to pee in the beginning but again much rather would prefer that over the pain.

    Love this video! My first was also the same I went to go pee and I just kept peeing and I was like what?? Lol it was my water . But i went to hospital wasnt progressing and got pitocin. I was so mad I was planning on natural but with it being my first and the extreme pain and my nurse kept saying get an epidural i caved at 9cm. My sons heart rate went down bunches of nursed and drs came rushing in saying he needs to come out now or he might not make it . All because of the epidural I felt I was talked into. The afterward was horrible couldn't stand and my legs so numb now when I sit for long periods . My second was natural and got to the hospital at 8cm and I said no epidural and it was so amazing . I felt it all and the hardest part was the transition time from contractions to pushing I lost my breathe I had 2 contractions back to back besides that moment it was amazing . And with the epidural they told me hey you need to push out the placenta now but without it I was like dont i need to push the placenta ? They're like oh no it's already out. Haha I was like what?! I was so in the moment and it was amazing . I was just super hungry afterward. I do disagree though with the period pain you said . I've always had horrible period cramps and I felt that going through my periods so painful every month helped me with labor it felt like nothing until I got to the 8cm mark when it felt worse then my period cramps. So I was like I can do this. Lol

Just a pet peeve of mine but lovely stories nonetheless. Glad you had some good experiences. My first daughter was induced and I also got an epidural. I'm 29wks pregnant now and I'll leave it up to when the time comes on if I get an epidural or not. 🙂

      Can I please ask when you got the epidural? Becuase I know that I want it 100% but I want to know when is the best timing for it? Like in active labour 4-5cm dilated? Or more later on? It only lasts for 1-2 hours I believe too

    • @mori.kurogawa7936
      @mori.kurogawa7936 Před 2 lety +1

      @@zua240 It doesn't matter when you get an epidural because the medication is given constantly and as long as you need it and in the dosis you want. What you meant here is probably the "spinal" which is an injection close to where the epidural would be placed and only last for a few hours. It is usally applied for an uncomplicated c-section but you can also get shortly before you get to stage where baby starts moving down the birth canal.

    This was such an educational video but let me tell you everyone’s experience is different! I just had my baby 2 weeks ago and I went up to 7cm until I asked for the epidural. The pain was unbearable most of my pain was in my hips and back (I could feel my hips widen). Once I got the epidural I felt really itchy and my pain was mainly on my back side and i had to keep rotating because the epidural works with gravity. Also I could still move! The nurses even said that my epidural was weird because I could still move on my own. Once I reached 10 cm and it was time to push they shut off my epidural so that I could feel the contractions. I didn’t know they shut it off! The meds went away in an instant and boy let me tell you that pain was different I felt this insane feeling of fire in my vagina and pressure in my back. I yelled, “I need to fucking push!” After an 1hr of pushing my baby came. It was 36 hrs of labor and pin but I’d do it all over again. ❤

    I had the membranes separated. It was my first birth. It went really fast. I asked for the epidural, but it did not work. Don't know why. It was in a lot of pain, and it all went away as soon as I started to push. I remember very clearly thinking that if someone asked me for watever reason to stop pushing, he or she would be thrown out of the window.

Both my forat and second birthing experience were like 7 or 6 hours total with no complications and I had epidural.. only pushed for like 30 or 20 min each time.. so.. thinking I can handle a natural birth... just need to get past the fear of pain... The shaking is from adrenaline. It can also happen during labor so your body can compensate you for the pain. I think that if you went into the natural birth as a plan, it wouldn't have been as scary. You would just be more prepared for the oncoming pains of birth. Good video

    I did it without an epidural, but WITH pitocin. I had to be induced. And I can tell you, the pain is 10 times worse than having done it without pitocin. Because pitocin forces the contractions. It causes them to be more intense with less rest. Also, I just learned that the shakes are caused by adrenaline and hormonal changes. But I can also say that during my first baby’s birth, I got an epidural, but I still got the shakes. It was crazy. Plus, I felt too relaxed with it and I had a hard time getting enough oxygen. I had to have a respirator put over my nose and mouth. I didn’t like that. So, with my 5th baby this time around, I’m going natural and hopefully no pitocin. 😂

      I can agree. I had two labor and deliveries both without epidurals. My first I was given pitocin and my second I wasn’t. The difference in contractions was night and day. The contractions from pitocin were so intense and so close together that all I could do was lay in fetal position for two hours straight before pushing. (There was a blessing though! I was laughing and smiling while pushing because I was so relieved to be done with the contractions.) 😂The contractions with the second labor without pitocin was a breeze in comparison.

I wish it had been because I was so happy to see my baby, but it wasn’t.
