    • @ArtbyBrooke
      @ArtbyBrooke  Před 4 měsíci

      To be on the safe side, I'd wait at least two weeks (especially for any kind of resin) but for sure you want the bottom of the vase to be completely dry since that part is usually where the paint is pooled thickest.

    • @ArtbyBrooke
      @ArtbyBrooke  Před 3 lety +2

      Thank you so much! That was my first time putting a layer down first and I'm really happy with it, I wasted less of my pretty cup of colors that way. I plan to gently sand the drips. My initial desire is to just peel them off but I know it would likely lead to me accidentally peeling the whole vase 😂

    Beautiful. How long does it take to dry? The vase?

    • @ArtbyBrooke
      @ArtbyBrooke  Před 7 měsíci

      Thank you! It actually dries to the touch a lot faster than a canvas ☺️ it's usually dry to the touch after 24-48 hours but I pay special attention to the bottom of the vase (which is the top when you pour) because the paint pools a little thicker there and I've accidentally touched wet paint before. It also depends a lot on your paint mixture so I recommend waiting 3 to 4 days to be sure, and touch very gently to see if it's still soft (meaning still kinda wet underneath). I wait at least a week before sealing, sometimes 2+.

  • @ohcheap1
    @ohcheap1 Před 15 dny +1

    Hope I can ask your advice on paint thickness. I use floetrol and decoart 3:1 /water for consistency for mixing. BUT I literally have never had distinctive colored layers as you get. Im good on a flat canvas but pouring over glass just messes me up. Would you say the density of the paint on glass is thicker then canvas alone? Trying to find an answer. This piece is stunning! Thanks for sharing with us.

    • @ArtbyBrooke
      @ArtbyBrooke  Před 15 dny

      I personally would skip the water for glass and mix a little thicker than you would for canvas. Canvas has a bit of a rougher and more absorbent surface so the paint flows slower, but on glass it can slide across much easier. Water might make the mixture too thin which will cause colors to mix too much and get muddy. I like to start with a general ratio of paint to Floetrol (I think I usually do 2:1 Floetrol to paint), and then test the consistency to see if I need to add a little more of either. DecoArt is already thinner than a heavy body thick paint so you likely shouldn't need water (though people at different elevations may find that to change a bit for them). I show the consistency I like here: czcams.com/video/e2jDUFZjbCI/video.htmlsi=7oFxU72EKIWK90iF but I would make it a little thicker than that for glass. I hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions :)

      @ohcheap1 Před 15 dny +1

      I does!! There are so many factors that play into each pour and each surface. Down to the size of the cup to thickness of each layer. Thanks for offering tips!! Keep pouring!!

    • @ArtbyBrooke
      @ArtbyBrooke  Před 6 měsíci

      You have to seal it with something after. I have used Rustoleum Crystal Clear Enamel but you will only want to wipe it with a damp rag to clean it. If you want to be able to clean it a little more rigorously you may need to look into something more like a resin.

    • @ArtbyBrooke
      @ArtbyBrooke  Před 8 měsíci

      Thank you! All of the colors I used (along with the brand names) are in the description. I use acrylic paint mixed with Floetrol. I move the vase (that is upside down on the cup) over to the side and let it sit there for 2 to 4 days. It will dry on its own. You just dont want it sitting in a very cold or very hot room to dry. You can get acrylic paint at a craft store, or any other stores that sell it, or you can get it on Amazon. I have an Amazon affiliate account here: amzn.to/48Lnctp

    • @ArtbyBrooke
      @ArtbyBrooke  Před 2 lety

      Hmm that's tough. There are a few things it could be... maybe there is residue on the vase (clean with rubbing alcohol before pouring, maybe your paint is too thin, maybe the pouring medium you are using isn't right for it (what kind are you using?), and maybe try doing a base coat of one color first. I guess maybe temperature could be a factor too? Is it cold where you do your paint pouring? Or too humid?

    Do you have to seal the vase after it is dry

    • @ArtbyBrooke
      @ArtbyBrooke  Před 10 měsíci

      Yep, you would want to seal it to make it shinier (paint mixed with floetrol will dry more matte), and also to protect it. I have used Rustoleum Spray Gloss Enamel on mine. It won't be food or dishwasher safe, but since the paint is on the outside you can still handwash the inside and wipe down the outside.

      You can use any kind of acrylic paint but when you are seeing people doing paint pours, they are mixing something with the paint to make it flow better. I haven't had a ton of drips forming because the paint isn't super thick (so maybe experiment with different thicknesses...I mix it a little thicker than my canvas paintings but only by a little bit) but you can always take some sand paper and gently file down drips if you need to.

      Hi! I will probably take some sandpaper and gently sand it down before sealing. That's the main way I have seen people do it, though you might be able to carefully do it with a craft knife or something similar. You can also try to wipe the drips while it's still wet to try to cut down on how much is there once it's dry. That takes a little more babysitting though!
