Must-Try Argentine STEAK SANDWICHES + CHORIZO on a Bun | Classic ARGENTINE SNACK in Buenos Aires

  • In today's episode, we're taking you out for some must-try steak sandwiches in Buenos Aires - a classic argentine snack!
    There's this restaurant we had been hearing about called 'Los Platitos'. The name translates to 'the little plates', but let me assure you, the portions here are anything but that! If you're hungry and you want to try some of the best steaks in the city, this is a good place to come.
    The restaurant is dedicated to beef in its entirety. You can either sit in the main dining area or grab a stool at the bar where you can watch the grillmasters work their magic. The setting is an old-fashioned bodegón-style restaurant with large portions and waiters who can memorize your order no matter how complicated. It's a classic Buenos Aires dining experience!
    We decided to order their steak sandwiches; we got the tenderloin steak sandwich, the rump steak sandwich and chorizo on a bun.
    It may seem strange to eat steak in a sandwich but this comes from the long tradition of food stands that used to line the waterfront, where people would come and eat grilled meat on a bun (a classic argentine snack) along the river on the weekends. This particular restaurant also started out as a food stand that grew and evolved with its loyal clientele.
    If you stroll the 'costanera' on a weekend, you'll come across a few barbecue food stands though they aren't quite as prevalent as they used to be. Either way, if you visit Buenos Aires and you want to try great steaks in a casual setting outside the downtown core, this is a good place to check out!
    🧂 Restaurant: Los Platitos, Int. Güiraldes 7350, Buenos Aires, Argentina 🧂

    Although I am a vegetarian since many years I must admit that whenever I come to Argentina I pretend to be someone else so that I can enjoy the meat (and yes: I really don't eat meat outside of Argentina or Uruguay). How could I resist bife de lomo con papas fritas or a choripán on the street... (the mind is strong but the stomach is weak...)
    I can put Chimichurri on anything: Cheese, vegetables, anything eggy (fried, scrambled, omelette, ...), grilled tofu, crackers, pizza, toasted honey (!) bread for breakfast, nachos, whatever you can think of - it will always be great!
    Next time in BA (hopefully soon) I will for sure visit Los Platitos - the ambience and decor is great (so typical for the restaurants of early/mid 20th century BA - I love it!)
    Thank you again for another great video from BA. 🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤

    The food in that restaurant looked like something I would have loved during my big meat eating days. I wonder what made the pancakes Sam had for dessert orange? Did they add dulce de leche to the batter as well as for a filling? It almost looked like a sweet potato pancake or that it had turmeric or something to turn it that bright orange. Also besides parsley and raw garlic on the fries, is there anything else like vinegar or oil they use?

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  Před 3 lety +4

      Thanks Penny! We do the same filming for both in terms of detail shots but then we have to make sure to do the speaking clips in each language. Sometimes it is easy to forget so we make mistakes. We have to pay close attention to remember to do both scenes in each language.

    Good morning Audrey and Sam, I love your videos in Peru and Argentina. I booked a solo trip for 3 weeks to visit Peru and Argentina in June 2021, assuming the international border will be opened to US tourist. I keep reading so many bad stories (and some videos on CZcams as well) about personal safety to travel solo in both countries, especially when I don't speak Spanish well. If I were your younger brother, would you recommend me to visit solo? Thank you for your advice, Danny.

    • @samuelandaudrey
      @samuelandaudrey  Před 3 lety +3

      Thanks for your message, Danny. I think it really depends on how comfortable you feel with the idea of travelling in these two countries. We've done multiple trips to South America and we've never had any trouble. We do take precautions like avoiding walking down empty streets at night, not dangling our cameras from our shoulder or neck, we're aware of the neighbourhoods we wander into. We try not to draw any unnecessary attention to ourselves - just common sense and basic street smarts. If you're not comfortable doing it entirely solo, you can try staying in a hostel where you're bound to meet other travellers.

    Wow, sushi would have been a sin in Argentina, given that you guys have that meat feast available to you. The only town I've been to in Argentina is Puerto Iguazu, which borders with Foz do Iguazu (Brazil). That's where the Iguazu falls is. Have you guys been there? It's a lot more impressive than Niagara Falls, with more waterfalls and much more water volume. But the water in Niagara Falls is much clearer though.

    Beautiful video. I'm a spice wimp & never could find chimichurri that wasn't way too spicy for me. It does add brilliant flavor to meat... if your body can handle the spice. :) I've been searching for 29 years for anywhere in the US that sells dulce de leche (in any form - pastries, desserts, jars of dulce de leche - anything) and so far no go. Do you guys happen to know if proper dulce can be found in the states?

      You might have some luck finding dulce de leche at a smaller Latin market that imports products from the region. That's where we used to buy ours for the longest time, now it's available at most of our local supermarkets.
