You, sir, are a genius! I have wrestled with this tv for several years looked at every board with a lighted magnifier, watched so many videos, nothing helped. but today I watched your video. I tried what you suggested and low and behold it worked! halleluja!! Thanks
It's 2023... Thanks for sharing this tip on the screws. Watching from my Panasonic VIERA TC-L32X5 32" Ha! Trying to learn how to repair my beloved Panasonic Viera TC-60PU54. 13 blinks, supposedly it's a communication error on the A-board. We shall see...
Thanks for all the plasma repair vids 12volt. Though I've been an electronics tinkerer for many years I would never have had much of a clue about repairing those things. Watching all your vids helped give me confidence that my testing was correct. A friend of mine just recently gave me a dead 51" Samsung PN51D530A3F plasma. I tackled it and was able to find the three shorted IGBTs on the X-Main board and replace them with parts from a ShopJimmy repair kit. I tightened a bunch of ground screws that may have been the cause. The TV works perfect again. Another one saved from the landfill.
The marketing department added the sharp edges. How dare anyone repair consumer electronics. The grounds are designed to oxidize one week after the guarantee expires.
I have no doubt these Panasonic plasmas were of great build quality. They're probably just as good as their HD widescreen CRT Taus. Those bloody things had a perfect picture: no loss of focus in the very corners of the screen, minimal or no misconvergence, and perfect geometry.
Worst burn in on CRT was in a security control room, same computer image on screen for 10+ years 24/7, you could read the burned in text clearly with the monitors turned off when we retired them for LCD screens. Thanks for the videos. :-)
I've seen CCTV monitors with real bad burn in to. I remember in broadcast the b/w camera monitors in the control room had color bars burned into them, and the superimposed framing mask which was a white corner markers, and a + right in the middle of the screen. I had a few old computer monitors that I abused, and burned so badly you could read the image when off. This color set in my shop that I use for my cameras isn't far off though. You can see the image with it off.
That's a beautiful set. If it was yours, would you put star washers on all the grounds? I know you'd run a file along the edge of the back panel! I have a couple of BiAmp CPA-130 amplifiers. One was assembled in the US and the other in India. You can see the pride built into the US built amp. The amp from India works, but is thrown together.
Love my 2009 vintage 50" Panasonic plasma 1080p set. Unfortunately my problems wasn't loose ground screws but a couple of bad chips on the power supply board. It's now running beautifully and probably will for many more years. These plasmas have to be the closest thing to oled's out there. Still waiting for a price reduction there, but I hear that there is a longevity issue with the red led's on the oled's. Iam still tinkering with my 58" plasma with a one blink code, bad A board. I sent it in to a Panasonic tech who confirmed that it was bad in a working set but couldn't determine the issue with the board. Very hard to find good replacement parts that aren't junk!
Same here. Love the old Plasma. OLED are very good, but there has been burn issues with them in the past, so they will have to work those bugs out before I invest. I have another Plasmas here to open a TV store. 8, all working. A 480p in the garage, 4 720 sets and 3 1080. 2 are spares. I have 2 more broken sets needing parts.
I had a large number of the panasonic plasma tv's that also had a nother issue with the panel. That was shorted pixels and normaly near the bottom of the screen. This also would take out the associated driver i c. Replace the faulty board with a new one and it would fail just about strate away at switch on. Took a a while to find the root of the problem. At first Panasonic would not beleave our problem, untill the sales rep steped in. Panasonic ( Australia ) do not carry spair panels and if a warrentee claim the customer would also get a new and possable upgraded set. On a nother note had one set come in with a bullet hole ( .22 ?? ) through the screen and out the back. That set was only 6 month old and defently not a warrentee job, but the customer complained to panasonic and to keep the peace, panasonic eventualy gave the customer a new plasma set at the time. We got that set for spair parts !!
I know Panasonic went out of business. You just don’t see Panasonic products at your local Best Buy anymore. It’s sad. Because personally, I love Panasonic they build the best TVs out there they were best known for their plasma TVs, because of how rich the colors were in plasma like watching movies you get the darks perfectly, and all the colors so vivid I love it there is a certain code on the side panel that you program that you can check out your colors. I’m sure you know about that right on the Panasonic on the side volume and up channels you have to do them and series to get the pop up menu no one knows about only us technician me and you know about. It helps out with checking out the pixels on colors where you’re talking about.😂 great video, my friend absolutely loved watching your videos. This made me very happy looking at how beautiful these TVs really are. My second favorite TV is now on my number one TV Sony I love Sony because they’re manufactured in Japan. I really don’t care for much of TCL or Samsung because they’re made in South Korea. Nothing wrong with the manufacture there but I know one of my friends had bought a Kia soul and the engine blew. Their engines are so cheap kia I love Japan I have a 2018 RAV4 XLE with the moonroof, which the glass moves back and I love putting my car in sport mode and it has eco-mode but I love sport mode but I only use that when I just want to pass people by really fast I love my car it’s a four-door and I have a 2002 Toyota Tacoma TRD which is customized from a professional stereo place in Phoenix Arizona off of 19th Ave., Val and page they built my truck I have 3L7 kicker subwoofers and speakers manufactured by massive speakers. That’s the name brand, and then Rockford Fosgate amplifiers, and I am putting in some other subwoofers named earthquake. This one is 30 inch subwoofer and I believe it’s 37,000 W subwoofer. I am going to install that one and take out the kicker subwoofers. Maybe I’ll leave them in if I have enough room I have a customized Toyota short camper. It’s not a big camper. It’s just customized at truck level. I don’t know how to call them. I think they’re short campers you’d have to see my truck to be amazed how beautiful the stereo is. I even have light strips with the speakers so at night time they glow and I have under glow Street glow underneath my 2002 Toyota Tacoma TRD simply love, Japan, electronics, and there vehicles I am having technical difficulties with my Chinese iPhone 12 PRO MAX 512 GB Even though my phone I bought in Verizon wireless is my phone service. I bought it from them and I know the corporation is in California but Apple so retarded they had to get them in Chinese people to build my iPhone which all China electronics are absolutely junk because my iPhone 12 pro max misspells all the time and it heats up really bad because of the OLED DISPLAY 4K display ever since they started making this so-called glass phone I absolutely hate all there products you see my iPhone misspells if I was President of the United States, I would Make sure that iPhones are manufactured either in Japan or America, the United States can you imagine if they actually made the iPhone in Japan how beautiful this product would be because the Japanese people I love Japanese people they are so damn smart they build everything like gold the iPhone would never misspell or it would be minor misspelling, because I’ve always been happy with all my electronics and vehicles that I bought from Toyota is manufactured in Japan. I’ve never had problems with my vehicles or electronics like my PS5 or my PS4 pro I love Sony, because Sony is manufactured in Japan anyways, I’m sorry my pills have kicked in. I’m feeling kind of high right now. Oh I feel so good right now. Warm and fuzzy. Perfect for the winter. If you know what I mean. I’m sorry for talking like this. I love your videos. You’re one of my favorite CZcamsrs. 😂
We used to call sets like that, where the owners smoked "reekers"; in Scotland, 'reek' basically means smoke. There is a saying to wish someone well 'lang may yer lum reek', which means 'long may your chimney smoke' - hence, reekers. Houses that had open coal fires and smokers in the house were usually really bad, sticky even. Any rentals that we brought out of a house like that were usually ditched immediately (unless it had only been a short term rental).
Some of the TVs I worked on in the shop were just totally disgusting. Almost stomach turning they smelled so bad, and were so gross inside especially around the flyback transformer and HV block. I had one that was so bad it actually started arcing from the input of the tripper to the chassis because of the contamination.
Thank you for this, I will now feel confident in checking the screws myself, provided the other bits don't look blown out or fried, hoping it's just the earth screws, 🙏🤞🙏🤞🙏🤞
Didn't have any, and besides it lasted 10 years before the problem happened. In another 10 years I am sure something else will fail long before the screws work their way loose again.
I have a Panasonic 65 inch I got it back in 2009 and I got lucky and picked up another Panasonic. This one’s a 46 inch TV 2012 they’re both plasma both of my TVs work Beautiful the 2009 model did some blinking with codes but thank God I know about Electronics I did the same thing you did. It’s about the screws. 😂 now my 65 inch Panasonic plasma TV works beautiful it’s amazing how they do the surroundsound it really freaks me out when I’m playing Grandtheft auto five online how the surroundsound is it’s beautiful and on my 65 inch Panasonic TV I think I have 4 fans on the back of my TV set and 46 inch TV I got at the pawnshop. Oh yeah I forgot to tell you how much I picked it up for the 46 inch Panasonic plasma TV 2012 works beautiful it’s like brand new here’s the surprise price I only paid $40. Did I just take your breath away and did mine as well I fell in love with it right away the 46 inch Panasonic TV didn’t have any fans in the back of it and they’re both 1080 P I love them I will never sell them because I love Panasonic and I even have Technics 1040 DX 5X100w surroundsound Dolby surround sound DTS and Technics 1050 DX high current MOSFET 5X100w they’re both extremely powerful surroundsound receivers
I fix these at work. We have a very high repair turnover of around 350-400 tvs a day, so the company has us find the faulty board and just replace the board with repair targets. Replacing the plasma sreen on these is a long job
You can see all the crap from that smoker did to it ,I seen old tube radios own by smokers it just the nasty stuff you will ever see.you save that guy some.money ,needs a cleaning too,I learn something I never considered ,tightening screws .thanks you for your video ,
@@12voltvids Yup, razor sharp! Hey, I just tried tightening all the grounding bolts but I'm still getting the 5 red flashing lights. When I power up the TV I can literally hear the power board firing up, then a click, and it gives up. I'm a novice, trying to learn about TV repair. What's your verdict? Needs a new board? Or could be something else?
@@jamesthetwin The ground screws work their way loose and arc, causing parts to fail. My old plasma it blew about 5 parts on the SS board. You need to google the fault codes for your specific model as the blink codes are different for each generation. That will give you a direction to go. Sorry I can't be more specific but there are many things that will put a plasma into protection. Over voltage, under voltage, over current, buffer board failure, sustain board failure, audio amp failure, tuner failure. They are very complex sets, far more than LCD sets.
Dear Dave, I can not thank you enough for the video you did on Panasonic dissimilar metal on grounding boards. I totally understand how people would throw away a set with these kind of problems , My set is 16 years old a 55 inch 720 p flat screen with exact problems you were sharing with your viewers, I am a layman with basic electrical knowledge, And to be honest never had to much luck at repairing something so sophisticated. I said what do I have to loose ? if it works I saved buying a new set .If It doesn't the new sets have come down in price considerably, What I want you to know is that I followed your video exactly as you showed and voila, It works perfect . Thank you so much , also I became a subscriber. Sincerely Paul Sorbello
great job on fixing it! thats the fun part figuring what the bloody hell is wrong..lol hey i just picked up a panasonic plasma TC-p5os2 got for free, time to get out the screwdriver and check the grounds. its not turning on but checked for power on the plug cord, all good there, time to open her up! maybe your cat was in there fixing it whilst you were getting a bandaid..lol
I just like it because it is cool how it operates. Electrons flying through neon gas. I like CRT sets too. I had an HDTV CRT that weighed a ton. Gave it away. Wish I had hung onto it because it would be a collector item some day. Had a wicked picture, superrior to plasma or anything else in 1080 mode.
i can remember 1080i crt sets i had a philips one it was ace, you just cant beat these old sets the picture was fucking awsome, especially on valve sets
I had a Panasonic 34Wx50 and it had an awesome picture. I gave it to my wife's parents, and it eventually packed it in. I was going to bring it back to the shop and repair it as I wanted to keep it, but the wife said no way was I was bringing it back in the house. That set was close to 300lbs and this was before I was shooting these videos. It would have been a great set to have beside my work bench. I anded up with an old 42 plasma there, but the plasma is a SD set, and this tube panasonic was simply amazing. Mine didn't have HDMI or DVI, just component but it would do 1080i 480p and 480i. The 1080i picture was fantastic from a bluray player. I used it for 10 years before replacing it with the 1080p plasma I have now on my desk.
@@12voltvids I had a CT-30WX54 with hdmi. best geometry i’ve ever seen. got the color balance calibrated with a colorimeter, got the focus touched up, and damn it was amazing. build quality was spectacular. the sound was like a theater
I had a lightning strike hit in my yard and my plasma will not turn on and the red led is off. I checked the fuse on the main power board and it has continuity and so do the larger capacitors. There are not any burn spots on the board. Do you have any recommendations?
I hear you. I don't smoke, my dad did and I saw the effect it had on his health. Many of my friends parents smoked and they too had serious health issues from it.
Didn't have to look. Know they were arcing due to the looseness of the screws. They are all very loose, some more than others, but all of them needed tightening. That is why I did it before powering it up. I didn't want to be the one it went POW on.
I replaced the D Board board but it's still given me same 5 blinking lights. There are a couple of suggestions that it is the power supply board. Can you help? TC-P50G10
I have a 50 inch Panasonic that appears identical to this one. all the ground screws were really loose too. I also reseated all the electrical connectors. it still will not start the relay clicks and it flashes ten blinks. Any chances of a simple fix at this point or is it already too late?
Hi, Just watched your informative video. I have a 42" Pana Plasma TH-42PX60U that first had 10 blinks and replaced the power supply board. However, now it blinks 5 times. Fan turns on for only a second and TV shuts down with 5 blinking lights. I did try your advice to tighten all screw on all the boards, especially ground screws with tabs. Still same result, TV does not power on. Could you give me other possible source of trouble?
Hi I was wondering if you can help me out to diagnose my problem, I have a Pioneer dj-sx controller and when powered up nothing works, there is 5v coming in from the power adapter but was wondering what test I can do to fault diagnose
BTW....You're absolutely right about those damn covers being so razor sharp.....one of the only brand that won't spend the few extra minutes to sand down those Gillette edges...!!!!! seriously, I almost took off the tip of my finger one time....ughhh.!!
hi we have panasonic plasma model no. th-42pv80d a , first green light blink after that red light blink 1 time then stop , then on red light , then off what is solutions pl help...
This information is great to know. Do only Panasonic plasma TV's have the loose ground screw problem or is it all Panasonic HDTV's? Because plasma TV's generate so much heat, are they a lot more susceptible to the loose ground screw problem? Would putting star locking washers on the ground screws solve the problem? And finally, does the loose ground screw problem happen to Samsung plasma TV's as well? I've got a very heavy Samsung 50 inch 1080p plasma TV. Thanks for all you do. I always learn something when I watch your videos. Regards, Tom
THOMMGB Panasonic plasma are problematic with the ground screw problem. the reason is dissimilar metals with different thermal expansion when it hears and cools. lock washers prevents this. of course torquing them down real tight will also lessen the chance of them coming loose again. the big problem with Panasonic is they use the chassis to ground multiple points on the board. other brands have ground screw problems too but not to the extent of the Pana plasmas. I have a even heavier Samsung 63 plasma. 8 years old no troubles yet. been a great set.
Thanks for the quick reply. I found my Samsung on the side of the road. It was a monster trying to get that sucker into the back of my Pathfinder. As it turned out, all that was wrong with it was that one of the four fuses on the power supply had burned out. I found a ceramic 12 amp, 250 volt replacement on Ebay. I also replaced 4 capacitors that others had recommended because they were known for causing problems. Your videos make it a lot less intimidating when it comes to getting into these sets as well as other electronics. Again, thanks for your help. Regards, Tom
No, I've seen worse burn-in on old CRT TVs whose only task in life was as a monitor for a game console. There was a big, pixelated "Game Over" right in the middle of the screen! :)
We have some pretty bad ones at work, VTDs that just display the same login screen 24/7 unless someone is actually on the terminal inputting info. The worst one I had was an old VGA screen from back in my BBS days. It would run 24x7 and would display the main screen from "Front Door" which was a modem answer program. I ran a main tosser server. This was back before the internet, and Email. Anyone that has been around awhile will remember "Netmail" and "Echomail" Forerunners to Email, and Forums. My system would sit there waiting for another BBS that was down stream to dial in, and it would answer the phone, receive the main bundle, sort or "toss" the mail, and then it would dial out all the other downstream systems and deliver the mail. Once a night it would diak into the backbone, which was a long distance call, and drop off, and pick up all the long distance netmail. So basically a user could send a message to his friend across the country , it would be tossed on my sytem, and delivered overnight, and the receipent would get it the next day. Respond, and it would arrive the following day.
Hi have a old sony kv 1320 13" crt which I am repairing/restoring. how do you soft start the tv because it has a kick start oscillator to get the telly going . Variac will lock the oscillator up and blow the transistor and they are hard to find these days. Any suggestions?
The 1920 were the same. Can't use a variac on those. Need the inrush to charge the start capacitor and kick the oscilator.. All you can do is supply an extarnal supply to the oscilator to get it running before you bring power up.
Love your videos, especially dealing with those Panasonic Plasmas. I to have a 50” unit purchased in 2006. Unfortunately my issues come with a clicking sound that whenever it occurs, the unit doesn’t turn on. I can tell you that after dealing with this problem for over a year, this shut down/clicking happens when power is interrupted and even though l had the power board capacitors professionally replaced ( based on repair guys recommendations), it still happens when again the power was interrupted. I don’t get to many power interruptions in my neighborhood, maybe once every 3 months or so but that’s exactly what happens every time..I have brought the unit back to life several times since but if you as me how, l am clueless. What can the REAL issue be?
mine comes on after sitting on idle for some hours with no picture. seems like a capacitor needs to get charge, it stays on and works beautifully after that. if i shut it off for any length of time it does it all over again.
Hello! I have a question. I've got a monitor wich makes a high pitch sound. Can you tell me what could be wrong with it? I've already changed the Caps from power source and that doesn't solve the issue. Thank you very much!
I'm just curious, and have been for awhile, your intro music reminds me of the sort that used to be on 80's TV shows, which is cool, just wondered if it was deliberate or not? :)
It is royalty free content I purchased from Musicbakery productions several years ago, and most was produced in the 90's so that might explain why it sounds like retro music.
great video, i have a panasonic th50pz700u, when plug in no blinking light, when power on you hear first click from stand by relay, fans go on for about a second then turn off and light begins to blink , i counted up 30 blinks. any help will be appreciated.
I thought it wasn't okay to lay down a Plasma TV. Could you elaborate on why you thought it was alright to do that? I was told when I bought mine that it has to stay upright at all times because of the gas inside the panel. I came to your video because I have this very issue I think, as my Panasonic Plasma suddenly stopped working but I have no blinking lights or power working on it currently.
Laying them flat is not the problem. Transporting them flat is. The stress of hitting bumps and potholes can stress and crack the glass. The same is true for LCD and LED TVs. Its the glass that is fragile, not the neon gas in the panel.
12voltvids thanks for the quick response! That makes sense but I am not well informed so I blanketed the protocol to keeping it upright at all times. I’ll be checking my grounds this coming week when I have time but I think there is something worse afoot. It literally cutoff out of no where with no lights or anything. And hasn’t booted since. I’m pretty tech savvy but this beast is a bit beyond me. I’ll do some general diagnostics and might have to get it to a specialist.
12voltvids I’ll be sure to check that, but currently nothing is happening when I plug it in. It’s completely down. Thanks for the advice, I’ll update when I get the chance to open it up and check.
Those poor fans need a good cleaning. Should see what happens to the old white backed Vizio's (VX series) when smokers had them. Just some of the nastiest yellow sludge you'll ever see inside.
Loctite would be a bad thing. It would provide an insulation layer on the screw thread and defeat the purpose of ground screws to begin with. Lockwashers yes.
I have same 5 blinking lights on my Panasonic TCp50G10. I want to fix it myself but need to know what the blinking lights mean. Can you please assist? Thanks

Smashing job :-D looks like a nice set, shame about nicoteen coating on everything :-(. I bet that tv stinks worse when hot, ive had to service items from smokers, im not a smoker so its just disgusting to work on. I had a music center to repair for a frend, i ended up scrubbing the whole thing with warm water and detergent, every bowl full was like diluted poo :-(. The unit looked like new after i had finished, it was actually a nice system.
olradguy considering this set is 10 years old and this was the first problem I would argue that they are pretty reliable and you can't beat the picture except for oled. I like plasma. the newer ones were not as power hungry but many will also argue that the power hungry sets had a better picture.
Well this one is a friends set so I give him a break, but generally I would charge 80 or so for this. The shop I worked at would probably have charged 200.
Steven Brashear the smoke certainly won't do it any good. I need to change the DLP chip on my Samsung and would have done it by now if the chip wasn't so bloody expensive.
There is a place in Dallas that sells them for $90. I have a 55 inch samsung DLP with bad bulb and good DLP chip. I do not use the set. It is stored in my closet
There are many different chips. The 720P ones can be had relatively cheap. Mine is the LED-DLP with the HD3 chip I believe it was called. I looked it up, and Shop Jimmy wanted 275 for a new one, which is US. That would be close to 400 CDN, and I am not about to put that type of miney into this set, even though it is a good candidate, because it is the LED light engine, which is supposed to be good for 30,000 hours. My set has about 8,000 on it, and works, but there are a bunch of white specks on the screen where a mirror has broken and fallen off it's hinge inside the chip. I'm hanging onto the set as it was a very expensive set so that some day if I can get a chip for under 100 I will definately do it. It is pretty easy to change, and that set had a fantastic picture. Beautiful color. I have 2 other DLP sets, one I took to work for the lunch room, but I still have a Samsung 56 Tantus which was also an expensive set. It is only a 720, and it works fine. The problem with the chips seemed to be more on the 1080 chips, probably due to the "wobulation" which was used to increase the resolution on screen without increasing the physical pixel count on the chip.
Ha ha o guess at that before I started the video. My research showed that I have a 55 in Panasonic plasma tv went bad. I had to replace the y sustain board
I said it would be gross. TV belongs to an old friend. Went to school with him, and worked in the same TV shop for 20 years. He worked on the sales floor, I worked in the back. I remember he was always going out for a nail every half hour or so all day.
It's gross. I personally havent had any smoker's TVs yet to repair but I did a lot of PCs that were owned by smokers, which are usually worse because they smoke right in front of it. Air compressors dont work because the tar from the smoke turns the dust into brown glue almost. What I ended up doing was thoroughly cleaning the board with alcohol and removing all heatsinks and loading them into the dishwasher, they'd come out like new. Pain in the ass.
Dacke I send em back as dirty as they arrived. can't pay me enough to clean them. imagine how their lungs look. crt tvs were even worse. the ht created electrostatic attraction to dust and the tar got in there and more dust and grime. disgusting. the worst ones were from bars back when smoking was allowed in bars and restaurants. I love the people that say that's why I don't smoke cigarettes only weed. hello that is 10 times worse.
12voltvids I suppose people who were really hard up for their weed fix could open up their TVs and run their fingers all over the insides and suck on'em to get the oils lmao

I tightened a bunch of ground screws that may have been the cause. The TV works perfect again. Another one saved from the landfill.
Plasma sets are fun to work on. Unlike LCD and LED sets they are very serviceable because they uses allot of discrete components that can be replaced.
The technology from this Panasonic set is amazing. I guest the company did a good job on this one.

that tv will probably out live the smoker
so it will last 86 years like my grandad did?

I bought it from them and I know the corporation is in California but Apple so retarded they had to get them in Chinese people to build my iPhone which all China electronics are absolutely junk because my iPhone 12 pro max misspells all the time and it heats up really bad because of the OLED DISPLAY 4K display ever since they started making this so-called glass phone I absolutely hate all there products you see my iPhone misspells if I was President of the United States, I would
Make sure that iPhones are manufactured either in Japan or America, the United States can you imagine if they actually made the iPhone in Japan how beautiful this product would be because the Japanese people I love Japanese people they are so damn smart they build everything like gold the iPhone would never misspell or it would be minor misspelling, because I’ve always been happy with all my electronics and vehicles that I bought from Toyota is manufactured in Japan. 😂
You would be lost without the help from your cat!
Florinssl - No, silly, the cat is the shop's "Anti-get-work-done" device! :)
Was just kidding. Watch this channel everyday .
lal funny, good reply!
Thank you for this, I will now feel confident in checking the screws myself, provided the other bits don't look blown out or fried, hoping it's just the earth screws, 🙏🤞🙏🤞🙏🤞
should you use locking washers to stop the problem from ever happening again.
Did I just take your breath away and did mine as well I fell in love with it right away the 46 inch Panasonic TV didn’t have any fans in the back of it and they’re both 1080 P I love them I will never sell them because I love Panasonic and I even have Technics 1040 DX 5X100w surroundsound Dolby surround sound DTS and Technics 1050 DX high current MOSFET 5X100w they’re both extremely powerful surroundsound receivers
thats why i service my own gear...no dust bunnies,. and yes i smoke. but my gear is clean
I fix these at work. We have a very high repair turnover of around 350-400 tvs a day, so the company has us find the faulty board and just replace the board with repair targets. Replacing the plasma sreen on these is a long job
Bring back the clip of your cat meowing at the end of the intro!
I used that one on the previous video.
what's on anarchy?
Amazing. Great quality set and parts, and it all comes down to some loose screws!
You can see all the crap from that smoker did to it ,I seen old tube radios own by smokers it just the nasty stuff you will ever see.you save that guy some.money ,needs a cleaning too,I learn something I never considered ,tightening screws .thanks you for your video ,
Nice, sturdy workbench.
This TV still cleaner than the sets I worked on back in the CRT days.
Worst stuff I ever saw. CRT sets and CRT projectors from bars, and microwave ovens from restaurants. Now that's gross.
Sliced my fingers open yesterday opening up the P50G10B model. They really are sharp as knives.
They are and I believe I said that.
@@jamesthetwin
The ground screws work their way loose and arc, causing parts to fail.
@@12voltvids I see. I'll Google it. Cheers boss.
Dear Dave, I can not thank you enough for the video you did on Panasonic dissimilar metal on grounding boards. I totally understand how people would throw away a set with these kind of problems ,
My set is 16 years old a 55 inch 720 p flat screen with exact problems you were sharing with your viewers, I am a layman with basic electrical knowledge, And to be honest never had to much luck at repairing something so sophisticated.
I said what do I have to loose ? if it works I saved buying a new set .If It doesn't the new sets have come down in price considerably,
What I want you to know is that I followed your video exactly as you showed and voila, It works perfect .
Thank you so much , also I became a subscriber.
Sincerely
Paul Sorbello
When you catch the ground problem before it blows a component it will fix the intermittent problem every time.
great job on fixing it! thats the fun part figuring what the bloody hell is wrong..lol hey i just picked up a panasonic plasma TC-p5os2 got for free, time to get out the screwdriver and check the grounds. its not turning on but checked for power on the plug cord, all good there, time to open her up! maybe your cat was in there fixing it whilst you were getting a bandaid..lol
Great reminder i have to do my TV ! Thanks !
I've seen some *epic* burn in on Pokie machine CRT's over the years.
Such something i always over looked until now. Great work . Great video. Happy holidays.
plasma still remains my favourite for television
I have a 5 blink code on my Panasonic and I tried to tighten down all the screws. Still have have the 5 blink code :(
Why anyone would smoke inside their home is beyond me. Hell, why anyone would smoke is beyond me.
I hear you. I don't smoke, my dad did and I saw the effect it had on his health. Many of my friends parents smoked and they too had serious health issues from it.
Exact Channel was looking for...Cool...Amazing amount of Tech in Plasmas...
The cat inspected the TV. No mouses inside :)
Looking in to the back into the boards power board center and board to the left bad screws check for arcing
TC-P50G10
Hello. I have a tv just like this one with a wide black horizontal bar in the middle of the screen. Do you think is the Y sustain board?
CAT SCAN!
My head hurts so much from that high background frequency ):
Try living with that 24 hours a day and you will understand what someone with tinnitus suffers and they can't turn it off.
Oh yes they are ugly.
Nice kitty. Pretty too. I like the video!!
You would think they would put something on the screws to keep them tight.
Panasonic Viera TH-42PX60U that blinks 10 times and does not start which can be
That thing must have cost a fortune new, Can't believe they did not bother with those star washers to keep the screws tight!
The Mexicans forgot them
I thought that laying plasma TVs on their screens are bad for the units, it messes up the plasma flow? Any truth to that?
Beast, built like a tank these are good sets good few hours left on that.
Got another one in, different problem. Video to follow. Don't want to spoil the fun. This one needs a part.
hi we have panasonic plasma model no. th-42pv80d a , first green light blink after that red light blink 1 time then stop , then on red light , then off what is solutions pl help...
THOMMGB
Panasonic plasma are problematic with the ground screw problem. the reason is dissimilar metals with different thermal expansion when it hears and cools. lock washers prevents this. of course torquing them down real tight will also lessen the chance of them coming loose again. the big problem with Panasonic is they use the chassis to ground multiple points on the board. other brands have ground screw problems too but not to the extent of the Pana plasmas.
Excellent video, good job
Do you plan on cleaning up that smoke dust inside the TV?
Great fix and a very cute curious cat.
No point is cleaning it, will just get dirty again.
i tried that excuse with the wife, it didnt work lol
@@jayperez3431Hi. I had a very similar issue with a Samsung LCD tv. Replaced the capacitors and the problem was fixed for a while.
I had Panasonic Viera 50 inch T.V 10 blinks I don't know what's the problem sir could tell me please. Model no.

Kitty Kat says this TV stinks. I like it.
great video, i have a panasonic th50pz700u, when plug in no blinking light, when power on you hear first click from stand by relay, fans go on for about a second then turn off and light begins to blink , i counted up 30 blinks. any help will be appreciated.
I’m not sure 30 blinks is accurate. There should be a pause in between blinks, and then that’s when the blink cycle starts again.
looking for a main board for a TH-50PV70h. OR PART NUMBER
Is there a quick way to convert a 220 unit to 120V
Amen more thanks.
@@TrianglesAnRhombuses
Is there a blink code when you try to power it? If not then you need to check the standby power supply.
12voltvids I’ll be sure to check that, but currently nothing is happening when I plug it in. It’s completely down. Thanks for the advice, I’ll update when I get the chance to open it up and check.
your work bench looks as crowded as mine i need to clear mine lol
Some samsungs LCD and plasmas are like that .
Those poor fans need a good cleaning. Should see what happens to the old white backed Vizio's (VX series) when smokers had them. Just some of the nastiest yellow sludge you'll ever see inside.
I would put loctite on the screws
Loctite would be a bad thing. It would provide an insulation layer on the screw thread and defeat the purpose of ground screws to begin with. Lockwashers yes.
I would have taken an air compressor to it FIRST! lolz, nasty build up around mosfets can be conductive ;)
Good video. Thanks...
Just got another one in. Working on that one now. A little cleaner inside than this one was.

I should pick up a plasma tv some time to replace my wide crt
Well you won't find any new ones because they don't make them anymore.
That is a nice set. One of the best plasma TVs ever made. Only one that was possible better was Pioneer.
How old is that TV?
2006 I believe.
Wow! Lots of stuff inside, It must consume a lot of power?
Would you believe 705 watts!
It's like having a small heater in the house lol!
killmore75 About the same amount of power as 2 old all tube color tv's, plasmas are more trouble prone and very heavy, don't like them myself.
olradguy
considering this set is 10 years old and this was the first problem I would argue that they are pretty reliable and you can't beat the picture except for oled.
I like plasma. the newer ones were not as power hungry but many will also argue that the power hungry sets had a better picture.
thanks
How much do you charge for a job like this.
Well this one is a friends set so I give him a break, but generally I would charge 80 or so for this. The shop I worked at would probably have charged 200.
Wont all that smoke damage the unit? And sucks you are far. I need to change a DLP chip on my Toshiba. I have no idea how to do that.
Steven Brashear
the smoke certainly won't do it any good.
I have no use for it. I can give you model number tomorrow and if it is what you need, i can send it to you
There are many different chips.
Y sustain, or SS board gets damaged by the loose grounds, I have repaired an SS board on a Panasonic, and a Xmain on a samsung.
should have better grounding

haha Cat owners TV is much worse inside than smoker, all those parasites lol.
My God those fans are disgusting. I've worked on computers owned by smokers and those got pretty bad. But that TV takes the cake. Urgh.
I said it would be gross.
TV belongs to an old friend. Went to school with him, and worked in the same TV shop for 20 years. He worked on the sales floor, I worked in the back. I remember he was always going out for a nail every half hour or so all day.
12voltvids Any tips on cleaning that stuff off if you had to?
Dacke
I send em back as dirty as they arrived. can't pay me enough to clean them. imagine how their lungs look. crt tvs were even worse. the ht created electrostatic attraction to dust and the tar got in there and more dust and grime. disgusting. the worst ones were from bars back when smoking was allowed in bars and restaurants. I love the people that say that's why I don't smoke cigarettes only weed. hello that is 10 times worse.
12voltvids I suppose people who were really hard up for their weed fix could open up their TVs and run their fingers all over the insides and suck on'em to get the oils lmao
