I worked at UPS about a year ago. As a package handler, especially for guys, you’ll either be a loader or unloader; women are usually sorters. Boxes might weigh between 5-150 Lbs; some over 150 lbs. Sunday’s are heavy days with the most trucks. For part time(4 hour shifts), the only breaks we got was a 10 minute break and when there was a jam on the belt. Aside from that, it’s constant bending and lifting; sup will be on your ass if that box count drop too low. LIKE ASHLEY SAID, BE SURE TO JOIN THE UNION ‼️I missed every Sunday, and they couldn’t fire me because of the Union. Fellas, if you see a woman you like in the warehouse, grab her number quick; I seen people quit within 45 mins of handling boxes and not come back. If you want the big money, apply for driver and take the road test ASAP then you’ll be put on the bid list. Hope that helped some of y’all 👍🏾

I've watched several of these type videos now, but no mention of DUES. I've been in the UAW before and it absolutely sucked partly because I always had to pay dues. So my questions, for anyone, are does this Teamsters Union require dues to work at UPS and be in it, and if so how much?
I started at UPS a few months ago and we are making $21 an hour and $31 and hour on overtime that’s pretty good

If you get a pay raise that means they hired you as a seasonal worker. If you work hard you can keep the job but don't call out at all and you have a good chance of them keeping you.

@@zachzach8620 I don’t have a good answer unfortunately. At my facility I could get a part time driver position pretty quickly but to be a full time driver it could take 1-3 years, just depends on the facility and where you fall in seniority.
I have an interview today at 7:30am for the package handler position, I’m really nervous !😂 interviews scare me for some reason. Luckily on my last job when I was working in concrete construction I didn’t have to do an interview because my mom got me the job lol

I'm a sorter and sometimes it's brutal because I'm 5'2" with weak arms and sometimes I'm lifting packages that weigh up to 70 lbs, but I'm becoming more and more acclimated to it and I've noticed that I've gotten stronger over time. The job definitely beats working customer service lol

This job was horrible in my experience as a loader its decent pay but for an extremely labor intensive job its not enough, I quit the second week just know what to expect when you apply if you do, it is hard work.

i just applied here and got hired the same day. i start on the 10th of may!! this is one of my first physical labor kinda jobs and ngl im nervous but mostly excited 💪
This was the best video on clarifying that the wage they said isn't the actual base pay. Which is the biggest reason everybody applies.
You have to work +5hrs in one day to get OT. So as example, if they say 19 it's really 15 and all 5 days, every 2weeks is bout 750(before taxes). If get a attendance bonus prolly 100, 850-950. Any hours in one day after 5, x it by 1.5. They basically hype the pay rate up to get bodies.
Yes it equals 19hrx 50 for 2 weeks, but there's taxes and fees deducted and hours may not be consistently 5 every night.
Here in Michigan they're offering a weekly bonus also ! My interview is tomorrow..

@@DivineGirlAshley I enjoy it! The 1st month is definitely hard while my body adjusted to the labor part of the job. But everyone is really nice and I've even been asked to be a part time supervisor! I don't regret it (:
They start $20/hr for peak season in my area! Applied for full time (1030p-930a) 2 hour break in between... doing package handling and pre loading...I start weds(11/18)!

14.50 is not good for the amount of hard labor they want you to do especially considering they dont give you a consistent 40 hours. That is assuming that everyone is doing the same bs like bending over and lifting heavy ass freight all shift. Someone else in the comments mentioned they usually put the women as sorters or something and I think thats bs and men and woman should be doing the same thing if getting the same pay.

I start next Tuesday at 4 AM!. (Pre Load) I am currently working at Amazon as a delivery driver but I want to become a driver for UPS.
Will you be staying at amazon while you work at ups? And yes with amazon driver experience you should be a perfect fit for ups driver !!
just applied for package handling at ups a few hours ago and got an interview Wednesday the 11th of November at 8pm
Few questions:
1. how stressful are the first week or two and on a scale of 1-10
2. what are the people like? friendly? strict? Preferably independent?
3. what's the usual routine? clock in and clock out? check in with boss for daily objective/directions? etc.

Indiana, warehouse is outside Chicago. That warehouse is hiring starting at $22, I’m only at what I am since I picked the 3am shift

Yeah, there are many types of “Package handlers” I guess i need to be more specific. How is the job?
The call those Gateway hubs there easier hubs but... there are no full time opportunities there and if you wanna be a driver you will have to transfer to a Regular Hub when your called up
Don't they expect you to lift up 70 lbs on a regular basis? I can do up to 50,
but as a small framed woman I feel like I may not have the physical reserves to go beyond that
They do expect you to lift up to 70 pounds, but most women will PROBABLY be in a sorting role. I went in expecting to load/unload trucks lol and I was put in Small Sort (easiest position ever). And those packages are nowhere near 20-70 pounds from what I’ve seen so far. So if you are a small person, they’ll more than likely place you accordingly. P.S. I’m not even sure if I can lift 70 pounds, I just said yes!
Yes, That is the expectation but I have been working here for 5 months now and I have not lifted anything that heavy! I work in small sort so I only handle small packages.

No problem ❤️!! I appreciate you for watching and there is not so much of a limit it just depends how long ups will hold you over 5 hours. I’ve received up to 5 hours overtime due to me signing up to stay after and help with things.
And what I mean by that is when you clock in earlier and leave at your regular time that could exceed over 5 hours which means you will automatically receive that overtime. (I hope that answered your question lol)

I'm looking at doing this job here in Kentucky. How do I get involved with the metro college program? Is it something I should mention at orientation or at my interview? The paid tuition benefit sounds great and it's the main reason why I want this job.
I went to there main website ( metro-college.com ) and followed the prompt. They sent me an email shortly after with information on getting into the program.

Hi! Thanks for your videos! I applied for the package handler position and was able to schedule my first day within the app. I have a couple of questions.
1. I got a confirmation email that says I applied for the pre-loader position but that my hours were 4 AM to 5 PM 😮. I selected the 4 AM to 10 AM shift. Is this just a general response? I want to ensure the schedule we choose in the application is the one we’ll be working.
2. You mentioned overtime being after five hours. As I mentioned I selected a six-hour shift. Does this mean after the fifth hour I will automatically be paid overtime for the sixth hour?

Yes !!! As long as you can manage your money and budget. I’m 18 graduated class of 2020 and currently have my own place working at ups!! It’s possible No cosinger either !!
Once you stack up enough seniority you can make a killing there for cash.

On the site to apply, there’s only two shifts available that I can choose from. Would that be the shift I work or would I get to choose a different shift than those two during orientation?
and it says I must be available to work within the hours of those shifts but did it say that for you when you applied and did you end up changing the shift from the one you chose?
When I applied there were only two shifts available as well. During my orientation they asked me which one I wanted to work as well
So that must mean those are the only two shifts available for that location
14.50 sounds crazy todays day in age. I live in newyork as a package handler and i get paid $18.50 $27.50 overtime

Can you quit and still be rehired? If so how long
If you quit make sure you are putting your two weeks in advance. So that when you do re apply you will have good history. You do nor have a waiting period for when you can re apply.

Union dues are 30$ a month. They take out around 7$ each check or you can do a one time payment.

Every state/city has a different contact number. I would go to google and search up “Ups HR Number” and tell them your situation and I’m sure they’ll be able to help

If anything i would look up the HR number for ups (on google it should pop up your locations number) and tell them about the issue.

It’s not a requirement to have your hair up, but it isn’t the cleanliest working environment so if you have long hair I’d recommend it

Part time package Handlers alone qualify under certain qualifications. You do not have to be a supervisor to qualify here in the state of Kentucky!!! I’d go check it out, it’s a really great opportunity!

I have orientation for them next week as a preloader, I’m a skinny short person do you think I’ll have to load heavy things or would they automatically put me in the area that best fits my bodily type? I just don’t want to get hurt in the process of this job that I want to keep.
I am unsure of the Necessities for a preloaded but I am sure ups will not put you in a position where you cannot handle the boxes or packages, also if needed help lifting anything it is always provided

Usually on your first day a union Stewart would come and talk to everyone. If not you could talk to your supervisor and they will give you a form to fill out

What does 19.50 after bonuses mean? I start Tuesday, and couldn't find an exact answer
I believe there saying after the bonus they are giving is applied you will be making 19.50.
Do you have a set schedule or do they change it in the middle of the week? Do you have to after your shift for overtime is it mandatory? I would like to work early in the mornings and then go to my regular full time job help supplement my income. Do you recommend this job for a woman in her early 50s?
Our schedule is set but due to peak season our “start times” may vary. We are currently required to work overtime and it has been an hour over. They do have morning shifts part time but again due to peak season right now The shifts are longer and will go over the 5 hour mark. But yes i do recommend this job to woman in there 50s What I do is a very easy and you are allowed to work at your own pace as long as you are healthy and in shape. so sorry for a late response. @@DivineGirlAshley I sort irreg packages. It sucks. Send help 😂. No but for real, I get a lot of packages over 130, tires, grills, compressed mattresses, trampolines, whiskey barrels, augers, metal poles for stops signs. I'm trying to move off of my belt cause it's really messing my back up. I'm only 5' 2". They would never give me something like small sort. I'm trying to get up on the sort isle but they like need me down in my area because no one wants to do it and I'm good at it.

You have to put in a bid and depending on your seniority you can become Fulltime, although there are other facilities that allow you to get hired on as an fulltime employee!!
