Thanks for the education. just completed the job. Pay Pal coming your way.
Thank you very much my friend I truly appreciate that, from the bottom of my heart thank you!
@@SladesVWBeetle I use a pair of vise grips to hold the punch so i don't hit my hand.
Just rebuilt my pedal assembly, Thanks for the video, it's a great help! ('74 SB)
PB Blast should sponsor you for all the mentions in the video. Always very informative. Thanks Slade for sharing
Haha!! You’re probably right! I use that stuff so much. I never realized how often until you said that lol
Brilliant work. Thanks for sharing. Big Respect from Mauritius.
Thank you James, and thank you for the kind comments.
I installed this kit in my Baja yesterday, my size 14 was much happier.
The pedal feel on the clutch was different, it felt more positive or connected.
I installed the roller pedal for the accelerator cable the wrong way, it was nice taking the assembly back out and not fiddling with the clutch cable trying to get it back together.
Im restoring a 71 super beetle that i disassembled in high school, RRALLY appreciate this video! I lost most of the parts and needed a hands on video to follow.
Thanks for commenting! I hope this was helpful!
Excellent detail! Thank you! I am looking forward to the video where you identify inspection points to look for when buying a classic Beetle. I hope you have a good weekend.....
Thank you my friend! Heather will be stopping in on that one. I think it’ll make for a fun video next week.
Great work again! Thay is one assembly (system) that I have never gone through or rebuilt. Makes me want to go through ALL of mine! Definitly will do it on Sophie as she gets final assembly after the paint is dinished! Thank you again! Your my HERO buddy!
Thank you my friend! It’s truthfully a nice addition, it makes the pedal assembly feel more normal instead of close together
I know this video is a year old...but...wanted to comment anyway. Few years ago now, I had a stand at the Sacramento Bug-O-Rama for my car club and the guy who makes the Big Boy pedal kit, and his wife, had a stand about 50 feet down from me. I got to talking to him and after seeing the innovations on this set up, I bought this kit and the pedal kit for both my son's car and my own. I installed the kits on both cars. What a game changer. Both cars had all of the issues the guy details in his video.
The clutch cable attachment is the way it should have come from the factory. It absolutely changes a pain-in-the-ass job into something simple and easy.
The real innovation, however, is the pedal. The movement becomes smooth and effortless. My original pedal assembly always had a catch in the movement, caused by bent parts. The new assembly cannot bend like the factory parts can. This set up truely is an advancement of our hobby.
That was Hilarious ... The part about the Towels 😂😂 this time is a light green😂😂
Oh geez!! 😁😁 I forgot I was borrowing towels and got caught
Hi Slade, I don't have big feet but when I had my 65 bug years ago which I knew how to do this then. Good video👍
Thank you Tim, it’s definitely a nice upgrade even if your feet or not extra large. It’s still more comfortable.
I have still to this day never taken one of those apart... repaired many, but never disassembled. I would like to space out all the pedals a little further, spacer kits seem to only move the clutch. Probably gonna "Duckman" a kit of my own. I have more of an issue between the brake pedal and the tunnel, I either can't get on the gas or can't get my foot back out! Haha!
True!! I wanted to slightly bend the brake pedal over further. Not a bad idea at all. I’ll definitely be watching to see if you do that. The big boy clutch pedal extender really makes a big difference brother. And I notice a roller pedal gives more space to it. Although it could be a placebo. 🤦🏼♂️😁
I am doing the pedal cluster too. I will consider the big boy upgrade, thanks for demonstrating it. For me the clutch pedal pin was not too bad to get out but the pedal was VERY tight on the shaft. Took a lot of banging to free it. I used a vice all the way through the process..
It’s definitely a nice upgrade. That’s for sure. The last time I did one, I had to use map gas and heat the pin up to get it out. This one wasn’t so bad.
Thanks for posting. I've had the kit for 6-7 years (after trying out the designers demo car). I've been too busy/intimidated to install but am gonna give it a go.
As someone tall, with big feet and long legs, I notice my hip would get sore driving the beetle. It made sense. Pushing the clutch a hundred times a day. and having to cock my leg sideways a bit. I remember the demo car was a lot more comfortable for me.
Thank you, I’m glad you like the video. You’ll be really happy once you do it, it is so worth it.
I have the big boy with throttle kit. A remarkably smooth throttle with plenty of foot room!
Thank you for your testimonial ... we love to hear VW friends mention our products. Classicbugparts.com. Thank you!
Absolutely John! Any little addition we can make to these cars is a big bonus.
So did that throttle kit give you more room between the gas pedal and the brake pedal? That’s what I really need!
Wow! Thanks for the informative video. I’m restoring my peddle cluster right now your info is very helpful!
Thank you for being her Bruce, and I hope it is very helpful. Thank you for the kind comment.
Excellent video! very informative and interesting.
Nice job. I recently did this but you got deeper into the refresh than I did.
Thank you Greg! It’s definitely a great addition
The big boy pedal extension is awesome. I'm glad, I got one years ago on my bug. Those rolls pins are the worst part of the project.
Thank you for your testimonial ... we love to hear VW friends mention our products. Classicbugparts.com. Thank you!
I never realized how nice they really were. Any little comfort we can get is a big bonus.
Yeah that roll pan is the real pain in the butt. My first video about a year ago I had to heat the pin up just to get it out.
Perfect video…in all ways. Each step in detail with instructions. Nice job!
Thank you Bill, I try the best that I absolutely can. I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment
I needed this information I've got size 12 😊
Outstanding Robert, I hope it was helpful.
Thanks for the video Slade.
Thank you Doug I hope you’re having a great day.
Just received my Big Boy pedal kit, so I'll be watching the video again much closer this time and without beer. Lve love your videos. Very well done!! I'd make oone buttt I stuttter too muchh.
Thank you very much!
Thanks buddy 😊
Great video. I picked up a 68 about a month ago, so I will be watching. Alot of stuff was already taken apart, or put together by a monkey. The reassembly might be a little tricky, since I didn't get to see how it came apart. Thanks
Thanks for being here I appreciate it. You can even check my videos of my 73 super beetle prior to this the only thing that would be different is the front suspension. But I will be putting this all back together weekly now.
Slade….get yourself a roll pin punch set. It will make your life much easier.
well that big boy pedal extension is really a great improvement. that pin is always fixed big time but at the end you won lol.
its a improvement for safety as well. well done, great video.
Thank you so much! I appreciate you my friend, that pin can be a real pain in the butt this one wasn’t too bad like the last time.
Take a real good, close look at that brake pedal to master cylinder pin. Years ago the one in my buggy decided to break in half just as I was approaching US1 in Florida (after leaving a restaurant/bar where I'd had a few.) First press went to the floor, second press was at the top and rock hard with no brakes! Luckily I was able to stop with the parking brake just before sliding onto the highway and into cross traffic. The first press broke the rod/pin, the wrap spring lifted the pedal back up, allowing the pin to droop down and wedge solid against the floor.
Wow turned out great, I have big feet, I’m going to spend the lunch money and get the kit, seems like it makes life better for the space and not fighting the clutch pedal, thanks.
Thank you David, I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I’ll be getting the roller pedal onto it very shortly.
Btw, well done video. Sorry I didn't mention that in the previous post
Thank you very much, I truly appreciate that
Excellent detailed video! I didn't know about the Big Boy extension so that goes on my wish list.
It’s definitely worth it William, I am very happy with the outcome.
I realize this is an older video, but when using a punch use vicegrips on the punch. You can hold it steady and it saves your fingers/ hand. For loose pins, take a hammer and place the pin on your vice
and hit the pin just enough to flatten the pin. That will take out the slack. Also use the vicegrips.
Remember to maintain the chamber on the end of the pin.
Awesome video as usually!!!!
Thank you so much I really appreciate that.
Thanks Bro nice to watch yr asmbely anyway i spare one i will try and do it for my vw 1969
LoL the clip shooting off... I'm glad I'm not the only one!
That’s odd, I never seen this comment. That’s a true pain in the butt.
@@SladesVWBeetle You get a lot of them! Can't see them all! Hehehe!
Hahaha bath towel thief. 😂 great instruction.
I just took mine apart, evidently while driving the pin out of the throttle pedal it hung up on the spring and ended up breaking the pin boss on the opposite side. I already have the Roller pedal so there was no major harm. But it is something to be aware of when taking it apart. It would have been nice to know that the clutch cable should be disconnected at the clutch so the cable would come out enough to take it loose and reinstall it on the new bolt connection.
Thanks this sounds like plan I wear size 15 shoes so I might get me something fabed up for myself
It’s definitely a huge bonus, I love the addition, much more comfortable with our big feet lol
Remember Gentlemen, one should never drive a Bug with Skis on. @@SladesVWBeetle
Was it just me, or did everyone snicker a little when he Fred Flinstoned his knuckle? Just saying cause I saw it coming! Cause I'm too lazy to put on a rubber doughnut over the Punch and....ya won't get hammered!! lol Also, perhaps using a Blunt End round chisel instead of a pointed one which will flare out the pin and really be stuck even more. Otherwise Awesome awesome video!!!
Oh trust me, I am a pro at injuring myself! LOLOL Thanks for being here!
This is relevant to my project its a Chenowth with an Autostick transmission with a secondary actuator for the brake pedal.
Thanks for this video. I never knew about this. I will be doing this on my VW.
nice job.
Thank you Jim I appreciate that.
Another great detailed video. Wish WW would deliver to the UK, they have some nice parts. My concern is that I had to buy lhd pans for my rhd so the groove for the pedal stop isn't there, nor is the thread. I'm going to use a stainless threaded insert and hope it holds up. That definitely worth the upgrade to stop the clutch cable struggle alone.
I wish they could work out for you, it’s definitely a nice upgrade, especially if our feet are on the larger side.
Thank you..really really nice video
I think driving the clutch roll pin out is likely how that tab was “adjusted”…
Looking forward to the video on the master cylinder rod, My pedal is low atm, new everything, hard lines, flexi lines, master cylinder, slave cylinders, rear drums, rear shoes, rebuilt front calipers etc. Bled the system many times but pedal still low. Will take any advice - many thanks!
I would definitely check that rod for adjustment. Especially if you have everything new, and your brakes are fully adjusted?
I would love to see that same video but in a pree 1966 version. Because the assembly is a little different. Mostly the brake part of it.
Great one and a satisfying watch.. - unfortunately RHD pedals I believe cannot be extended
That’s sad, I wish you could do that to your car it is a big improvement.
I have learned a ton watching your channel. Was wondering if there is a measurement to adjust the pedal stop vs just saying it goes about here?
Nice job man! 👍That clutch rod replacement is cool, I've seen them in the past on a few cars, only issue I have come across is the little bushing at the cable wears out.
Hi Slade i have messaged you a while back about how many people enjoy you web site in CANADA. I my self am on the very west coast just outside of VANCOUVER B.C. I have two quick questions one is on this video i am watching now. When you remove the peddle assembly do you replace the brake reservoir with a bigger one or do you just pull it out nice and straight make sure all is clean and just put it back together in the car in reverse of taking it out the bleed the brakes of any air bubbles. last of all when you made the video of rebuilding the top end of motor or video where you tore the motor down to break the engine halves apart to soak in the degreaser can you blast the halves with soda or anything else to get it as shiny and clean as can be ( sorry if that's a really dumb question )Todd from BURNABY B.C. CANADA fantastic channel keep up the great work helping us all out 🤪😜🤓
TopLine had the best roller pedal out there in my opinion. No side to side slop.
What happen with them Adam? I went to their website not long ago, and of course it’s not working. Did I miss something?
@@SladesVWBeetle I think that their site was down for a little while. I just looked and it is back up.
@@adamgray2720 Thank you Adam, I am definitely going to check them out today actually. I would like the best one possible.
Does the pedal stop, adjust how close the brake pedal will get to the firewall?
Great Video. Doing this very soon. Nice Vice, is it a Wilton?
Thanks very much. I truly appreciate that. I’m not sure to be honest with you that was given to me by a friend.
Excellent video !!!
I’m finishing up a pan off project with. 67 bug and will be rebuildint the pedal assembly. Can u help me with some part numbers or where to locate them? I need both of the snap rings and the horseshoe ring for the master cylinder rod. Any help would be great.
For some reason I was never notified of this, and I don’t know why. If you are and still need of help, feel free to email me
sladesbeetle@yahoo.com
heat gun is pretty much considered a dead short
I have a 72super beetle, the pedal spacer seems like a good idea but I also have trouble fitting my foot between the gas pedal and brake…. I’ve heard of people heating the brake pedal shaft and bending it a little. Any ideas?
My problem is the brake pedal being too close to the gas pedal. I wear EEE width shoes and I can’t work the gas without my food rubbing the break pedal.
Can the brake pedal arm be heated and bent for clearance without ruining whatever temper it has?
Funny you brought that up my friend. I like The brake pedal and clutch pedal further apart like they are now. However, I would have to agree.
This is going to sound strange. But when I run a roller pedal, for some reason I feel I have more room.
Of course it could be a placebo. Although what you just stated, is what I was going to try eventually.
To heat the brake pedal and bend it over slightly.
Pedal to the metal ...
Very true!! 😂😂
is there a reason u didnt use your handy sonic cleaner?
This one was easier to just wire wheel. The sonic cleaner I bought is too small for this. I plan on getting one online that’s four times the size. I guess that’ll be another video lol
Where do you get that horse shoe clip?
i buy a lot of that from wolfsburg west!
Can you include a link to your supplier
Sure I absolutely can. Here is a direct link to the big boy pedal extender I hope you have a very merry Christmas
