Boat: 1986 Prout Quasar 50
Episode 2 just released. We've had some amazing times and covered lots of ground already. Hope you like it! Yvette and Darcy --> czcams.com/video/pwWn2-MeaQw/video.html
I hope that you had your rigging checked . It's alway great to have your madt in vertical position.
I'm anxious to watch your videos . The BC coast is beautiful but not covered by many CZcamsrs. Take care !
Brilliant work well done
Happened upon you because I love critters and Coco showed up. Subbed and now binge watching your amazing adventures while packing up to start my own new journey. Y'all are delightful and thank you for the life you are giving precious Coco. Her eyes!!!
And that freckled tummy!!!
So cool! what adventure are you about to start :-)
I know its so cute isn't it haha
We have owned 2 Proust including a built to our specs Quasar. You are going to love sailing this boat. We made 6 Atlantic crossings, raised 2 children and called the boat home for almost 20 years. If I were a year under 75 and my wife was still aging, we would still be at sea on a Prout built boat. This lady will still be crossing oceans after every modern charter catamaran has been sent to the land fill.
We love this boat too! We are very happy to hear you made 6 Atlantic crossings on a Prout and happy to bring back fond memories for you. Thanks for the lovely comment.
Stumbled across your channel today. Amazing retrofit. Well done!
Thanks heaps :-)
our Alaska videos were some of our favorite, just after we left the dock in Vancouver,
We release videos every Friday in real time, so if you see it in a video we just did it.
That means that any comments on what we can do better/different are very useful :-)
We hope you will enjoy some of our other videos :-)
WOW, great job. Just as an aside, my father and mother used to build catamarans on commission. Their retirement plan was to sail the world in one they built for themselves, unfortunately that didn’t happen.
Love your videos. Just getting around to watching this one. You caught me, hook line and sinker, with the castaway video.😽
Cool that your mom and dad built boats, sorry they didn't get to live there dream. We have heard some other stories like that and that's why we just left before the boat was done, we didn't want to get stuck on the dock. the videos that you may be watching next are some of our favorites, Alaska was just amazing!
In other news Coco is doing really well and eat lots, still a ways to go but she will get there :-)
Just found your channel. So cool to see people just doing it!
Thanks heaps for the support :-)
This gave me Better Homes and Gardens vibes. Love it.😂❤
Thanks heaps 😂 Hope you like the rest of the videos too 😊
Just discovered your channel all the way from Sydney Australia. Really enjoyed watching the refit & you guys. Well done! 😊
Thanks heaps :-)
Nice to hear from a fellow Aussie! Hope you like the rest of the videos :-)
“You know your sinks fancy when it comes in a bag.” Words of wisdom.
Darcy's full of them sometimes 🙄😂
Wow, she's quite handy... does boat work, fishing, and can cook. What a girl... all rounder. You should try the lottery Darcy😅
Yeh I keep telling him that 😊😂
Wow great reliving this as its true to reality thanks !!!!!!!!
Thanks heaps for the kind words :-)
Really enjoyed the honest and down to earth adventure.
Thanks for the feedback😁
I appreciate that you showed how difficult DIY is.
Glad you like the videos :) We plan on having lots more DIY, as we have a lot more projects on the horizon
Looking forward to your adventures , Just remember " There are Old sailors and Bold sailors but never Old Bold sailors" Cheers and Fair Winds, Mick Geelong Australia.
We really could have used that advice a couple of days ago... You might not want to watch the video we just released... We will take that advice from now on! 🙂
25:05 what a cool jacket!!
Fair Winds and Following Seas!
Thanks I got it at a Thrift Shop for $15 and I love it! It's not easy for an Aussie to stay warm in Canada :D
You two have really saved that old soul of a boat. I'm a sucker for the older designs like yours and when transformed are gorgeous. Great job, you should be proud of yourselves. Happy sailing.
Thank you for the kind words, we love the old boats too and the beautiful design :)
So nice to watch other people work.
haha glad you liked it :-)
Old school radar is definitely pretty rad! Thanks for adding that bit.
We thought it was pretty cool too!
Just came across your channel today!! What an awesome Catamaran!! Love the Supernova name for sure!! You both have worked so hard so far and I truly look forward to your future refits to the boat and also your travels and adventure!! Be safe and God Bless!! Sully, from Rochester, NY
Thanks heaps for the kind words, the trip has been so fun so far! we can't wait for more :-)
GREAT BUILD GUYS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! absolutely loved this
Thanks very much, hope you enjoy the rest of the videos too!! :)
Man that old depth gauge and radar are so nostalgic! Don’t know if you already sent them to electronics recycling but would be awesome to have!!
Where were you months ago when no one wanted them. We put up an ad and everything.. it was super cool
Luv you all’s sprit keep up your amazing work thanks for sharing
Thanks for the kind words :-) I hope you like the other videos we have up :-)
You are definitely right to go for the larger table, you could always slice it in half and hinge it for when you need the extra space to move around the cabin..
The larger table has been amazing so far, that's a potential idea about the hinge though 😊
Wow I enjoyed this! It’s amazing to see Darcy smiling throughout all those challenging projects. Looking forward to seeing your adventures! 💙👩🏼🤝👨🏾
Thanks Marie! Sometimes you just have to smile, grit your teeth and get it done :D
Massive amount of work done there, well done! Positive vibes to you both.
Thanks very much! (huge fans of you!) :)
Have A Very Very Safe Journey, regards Phil from UK
Thanks for the well wishes, we're trying to learn as much safety stuff as possible :)
Amazing and you know I will be following your adventures for sure. Sail on and take care. ⛵️
Thanks for the kind words! Hope you enjoy the next video 🤩
Nice video!
When I saw how long it was I fully expected to fast forward through it but watched every second!
Amazing amount of work and whats even more amazing is you both stayed happy and focusded throughout.... Brilliant!
I have subscribed as Id like to see where you go with this. I have a good feeling from you two 😊
Great work and good luck with the future!
Wow that's great to hear. We are both pretty good at keeping our eye on the prize, there was definitely some tough times but whoever is feeling down gets picked up by the other person. Glad to be out on the water now though! :)
Depending on the inside width, centre the bed on the port or starbord side. Hopefully there will be enough room at the footing of the bed and your cupboards to get through. Makes it easier to make the bed and when you clean up. Your shelf you fitted leans to the front. Good luck. Fone to many yachts in my time..
Thanks for the advice, there is enough room to get through. We still have to make the bench for the other side and when the table drops down there should still be enough room even with the bench there. You have a very keen eye :)
What an adventure! Congrats to you both, you won't regret it.
No regrets so far :D
Fantastic and well done. Cat of this era were built like two mono's strong but heavy. I met a Quasar owner who stripped a lot of weight out of his and improved the performance. He told me he removed nearly half a ton of unnecessary wire alone but at your age there's no hurry!
We are looking for ways we can save weight because we have added some weight (such as hard top and dinghy davits). We definitely have some old wiring to strip out and we had not put it on the to do list yet so thanks for reminding us. :)
Can't wait to see more videos! I love that your going to post them in real time! Truly inspiring!
Thanks! A new video is coming tomorrow :)
You two are wonderful people and all the best for future! Stay safe!
Thanks very much, can't wait to share our next video with you tomorrow!
I love the energy between you two. I follow alot of cruising couples and I will be following your adventures. Much love
Great to have you along for the adventure 😊
Good team work guys 🎉
Thanks very much :) Hope you like the rest of the videos
Looking forward to following your journey.Fair winds and safe harbours!
Thanks! Hope you like the next video coming out tomorrow :D
Loved the start of an incredible Adventure. You told the boat fehab story very, very well. Looking forward to you trips
Thanks so much for the kind words, hope you like the rest of the videos.. just released one today and have a total of 5 more up so far😊
You two are so adorable together what a lovely couple!! ❤️❤️❤️
Aww thanks
So much work! Great job - looks amazing! Hope you have lots of fun. Looking forward to hearing about your adventures.
:) We are having a lot of fun so far.
It’s a journey shaped as you go and you have the ingredients for a great start, the both of you. I can’t sail any longer due to stroke caused blindness but I wish you fair winds and many sunny days. Happy sailing are my wishes from Fayetteville, NC. USA.
Thanks very much for the amazing comment. If we are ever in the same spot we would be happy to give you a boat tour and take you for a day sail if weather permits :) Happy you liked the first video, hope you enjoy the rest. We are excited to have you along for the journey :)
What an amazing and interesting catamaran. Furling mainsail on a cat is pretty rare. You guys put in a huge amount of work! That is a great accomplishment, kudos to you both.
The furling mainsail is pretty rare especially on a 1986 cat. It's already saved our bacon once so we are happy to have it :) Still lots of work to go so thanks for the encouragement :)
Awesome! We are up in the Fraser Valley having similar dreams.
You can definitely make those dreams come true. Check out our second episode that we just released. We've already had such a great time since casting off. If you have any questions let us know and we'd be very happy to answer them. Here's the link to episode 2, hope you enjoy :) czcams.com/video/pwWn2-MeaQw/video.html
Look forward to seeing your adventures
Great to hear, we look forward to sharing them with you :)
Amazing job refitting the boat. Looking forward to following your adventures.
Thanks mate! More adventures to come shortly :)
Massive amount of work, but gives you huge knowledge of the boat and any future boats.
It definitely does help us learn the boat. It would be nice if the work wasn't so worky lol and if we ever were going to do another boat we have definitely learned enough to do it better! :)
When I saw pink in my recommended videos, I knew it could only be one boat. Nice job! The hardest part about a project like that is to keep going. Glad to see you're out sailing.
Funny that it reached you all the way in the Caribbean! We're super happy to be out sailing too :)
Love the pink!
@@markthomasson5077 So do we!!
Diesel heaters are fantastic . They do make a huge amount of heat near the blower but they use so little fuel. As long as you consider the heat right near the diesel heater the things work great. Had one in my big rig and it was fantastic
Thanks for the tips, we thought about permanently removing it, but we are probably just going to install it in a different location. It's great to have a trucker along for the adventure, I'm sure you have some crazy stories from the road! :)
A dream of mine! Hard working guys! Everything looks amazin! Enjoy!
Thanks a lot, still lots of work to go😅
such positive and smiley people. Just started from episode 1 and enjoying it
Happy to have you on board for the trip! we got some amazing shots in on our way up and in Alaska I hope you like them :-)
You guys did a ton of work!!! Congrats on taking off to Alaska
Thanks, was a lot of work but all worth it :)
Respect, i realy love what you do ( im Mario From Algeria). love
Thanks heaps Mario, hope you like the rest of the videos :)
It feels great to see your boat almost done, great job👍
:) thanks for the compliment
Great to see you having a crack and looking forward to your travels.
We're winning so far, thanks for the support 😊
❤ love watching you guys...can't wait till you come to florida....😂
Should be there on the sailboat around 6-7 months 😊
Props guys, I love what you’re doing. Love seeing the trials, errors, challenges and SUCCESSES!! But I must say, hearing you pronounce ‘router’ as ‘rooter’ almost killed me, I was mid sip with a hot cup o’ coffee.
Thanks heaps :D Lol... yeh he's never gonna live that down 😂
Hi guys, just come across your channel. Wow what a amazing job you are both doing on this catamaran. Can’t wait to see it finished and start sailing after all your hard work , Cliff from Logan City Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 from the big island 🏝️
Glad you liked it, we have two more videos out now so check them out if you want to :) Nice to a fellow Aussie following along!
Hi from Brisbane ❤
@@nurseae Yehh more Aussies! :)
This is my dream! The boat looks amazing and I am so excited to see more videos from you guys, this could be my new favourite sailing channel! ⛵️
You can live your dream, just take it one step at a time and you'll get there!
If you want someone to do it with hit me up haha. My new goal is to get a Catamaran and do the same. Thankfully I already work remote and live by the ocean.
:-)
Awesome vid! Can’t wait to follow your journey! ⛵️⛵️⛵️
Thanks! appreciate the support
Very nice video and a cool boat - best wishes from Southern Bavaria.
So cool that you're watching from half way around the world. Thinking about crossing the Atlantic in May. Hope you like the video coming out tomorrow ☺
Have fun and good luck with your adventures! Enjoyed your first vid and congrats for your resuscitating an old classic.
Thanks very much, hope you like the rest of the videos too 😊
Great video, looking forward to following your adventure
Thanks very much! New video out tomorrow, hope you like it 👍
Loved the video. Love the colors. At 35 min, you need to get some ventilation behind that refrigerator. With more ventilation, it will pull less power and cool faster.
Glad you love the video and colours! Thanks for the advice, we are going to look at the specs for the fridge again. There is a lot more space behind the fridge than appears in the video because there was a cupboard behind the counter. Definitely keep the advice coming, as we probably make a lot of mistakes that we don't realise.
Ill second that - the fridge is a heat exchanger, pull heat out to cool the inside of the box and put the heat outside the box. Adding some slotted louvers for cool air to come in behind it and hot air to exit will make it run more efficiently and draw less electricity.
@@Poorehouse Thanks for the idea, we may also add a vent beside the compressor :)
....love ya both ! ;).....reminds me to when i was young ! ;)).....keep goin` !!!!
Thanks for the kind words, hope you like the other videos.. we will keep going for a very long time :) But only because you asked nicely :D
You guys are ever so inspirational. Keep the great vibe going
Thanks very much, pumped you are vibing with us 🙂
Guys,so so well done.Keep it up, will be following you..Jeff South Africa
So cool this video has reached South Africa! Hope you like the rest of the videos that are out. We are currently living this Friday's video and we think it's going to be a really good one. :)
Good luck! Very impressing.
Thanks we'll probably need some of that luck!
You guys work really good together! Awesome project!
Thanks very much :) Glad you liked the project
Great job so far! I’m in love with your boat and the improvements you’ve made o far. Keep it up!!!!
Wow that's a huge compliment, we will be mixing boat jobs in with cruising for most of our videos. We have 3 others out right now, check them out if you have time :)
Love your boat, classic old school style.
We love it too :)
What a huge job you guys have done! Looks amazing! I can’t wait to see more videos.. will be an adventure for sure 😍
Thanks, we're keen for as much adventure as possible!!
I love the vibe of this episode! 😊
Glad you like it. Hope you like the other videos as well :)
Just found your channel....awesome straightforward and fun to watch you two going through the motions in what seems like a awesome refit...look forward to watching your journey...PS clever very clever table solution you can now relax and make sure the table size is eventually correct and functional.
So far we are loving the large table and don't think we will be cutting it smaller, thinking about hinges though. Glad you found the channel and are liking it so far 😊
Nice job, we have 1987 40’ Hitchhiker Catamaran, still chipping away, we have cruised the QLD coast/ Barrier Reef for two seasons so far. My mate and 88 year old mentor advised to use her as much as possible before doing too much. Great advise, good luck with it all, it is worth it🙏
We are really happy we started before finishing everything. We have already changed our minds about 2 or 3 jobs we thought we needed to do before we left.
Happy you like the videos so far :-)
Put Norway on your list! Our coastline is AMAZING and spectacular ❤
Norway is on our list for sure! it looks like such a beautiful place :-)
@@sailing.supernova Our west cast and up north is stunning, We have 1 of only 4 green beaches in the WORLD! Hornindalsvatnet, Norway. Also Lofoten is pretty famous for it´s beauty. We dream of buying our own boat and sail up the coast, to Svalbard, to Iceland, to Greenland, then heading back stopping Ireland/Scotland and the Faroe Islands to begin with :)
This is so dope!!!! Y’all are inspiring 🤩🔥
glad you liked it!
Good luck and enjoy your work on your new boat ⛵⛵.
Thanks very much, we will :D
You two rock! 🎉
Thanks heaps :-)
So impressed with you two. Loved the first video.
Thanks heaps! Hope you enjoy the rest of the videos and join us for the massive adventure :)
Just found your channel tonight and gave a 👍 and subscribed !
You guys have some Mad Skills and I love the Fuchsia Pink !
✌️💙🎵 from St Louis Missouri USA
BTW there is a nother SV Supernova that was buddy boating with Bobby White and the Sailing Doodles Crew also a Cat !
Glad you like it, thanks for the sub! We love the colour too :D Yeh we just saw that after we released our first video because it came up when we searched for ourselves. We named the boat back in 2020 when we bought it because we love astronomy and the make of the boat is a Prout Quasar (Quasars are one of the brightest things in the universe, as are Supernovas!). There was an interesting situation with Transport Canada when naming the boat, maybe we will tell that story some time.
I've enjoyed watching several videos of this type on utube. Yours is right there among the top. Great job!!!!🎉😊
Thanks so much 😊 We hope you like our sailing videos too, we plan on putting a lot of boat jobs in those videos as well. We still have a long list of stuff to get done :)
Best rebuild video I've watch to date.
Thanks heaps! I hope you like the other videos as well (we had some really good ones in Alaska, sailing down to Mexico, and we met a very friendly whale just a couple of days ago (its in our last video) :-)
Love it guys!!! Great job! Can’t wait to follow along 😍
Glad to have you along for the ride :)
Impressive!! Looking forward to seeing more of you...
Very happy you liked it, we are trying to improve with every video, so hopefully the next one will be even more enjoyable.
Nice work! I'll see you down in Mexico or Panama, or... . I looked very long and hard at Prouts. They are great boats.... just watch the windows for leaking , much like many boats.
Thanks, when will you be in Mexico or Panama or ... :D There was a whole saga with the windows that is still too fresh to think about lol But they are mostly good now. What kind of boat did you end up getting?
@@sailing.supernova I sailed down from San Diego November of 2021 and I just keep going like the energizer bunny down here. Great place to spend a couple seasons. I will be heading south to Chiapas and then Central America this spring which would be my third season here in Mexico, it is absolutely captivating and beautiful here. Right now just hoping and praying that everybody along the Pacific side of Baja and all the cruisers in and around the Sea of Cortez and all our boats come through hurricane Hillary unscathed. One Prout that I looked at had had its windows replaced supposedly professionally and they still leaked. I'm sure you found the Prout owners forum. I ended up buying a Pacific Seacraft 37.
@@tvonzweck It looks like almost everyone made it out ok. We did hear of a couple boats that didn't make it. Pacific Seacrafts are great boats, you must love it! Your trip sounds awesome, keep it going :D
Glad you took a break afte doing the table. You were looking burned out bro. Sometimes you gotta just take some time off to rest. Looking great, lots of work for sure. :)
We had been up for like 36 hours at that point... we needed that break lol
Don't rush see everything there is to see before moving on you my only go around once.have fun be safe.
We agree but winter is approaching and with one Aussie on board getting to a warmer climate is a life or death matter lol We're definitely coming back to this area though :)
G’day guys. Love the enthusiasm and your sense of adventure. Another Aussie - from Sydney whose just sailed for the first time on a cat in Whitsundays and we’re hooked. We plan to do some more sailing before buying a cat. Keen on the med. Subscribed and will be following. Good luck guys and safe travels.
That's so cool, it doesn't take much to get hooked on the sailing life does it?! Always great to have more Aussies on board :) We are keen on the Med too!
Great job!
Thanks! :)
Absolutely just love your channel. Well done guys. Really enjoyed this video. Wish you all the very best.
Thanks heaps :-)
All I can say is he must love you with all that pink you put on that boat LOL
Believe it or not, he picked the colour :D
Can't wait to see more good luck guys
Thanks for the support! You won't have to wait long, uploading the next video now and it should be ready in about 3 hours. We think it's a great one, hope you like it :D
Aaaarrhhhh !!!!!! Two years of rebuild weekly would have been amazing. Oh well guess I will just have to see how you get on moving forward.👍
We can't believe so many people are so interested in what we are doing. We will definitely have lots of boat work in most of our videos, because we still have a huge list left. :)
Tremendous amount of work, two beautiful shining humans. Looking forward to your adventures. Many blessings and well wishes!!
Thanks heaps! Hopefully you will enjoy the other videos we have up :) We post a new one every Friday and stay in real time when filming/posting :)
Wow Supernova is a cracking yacht , love the new colour scheme ( alot better than the dull blue they came out of the factory with ) . Ive subbed and await to see your adventures unfold . Greetings from England ..... 2 miles from where Supernova was built in 1986 , Prout catamarans in Canvey island , Essex . Such a shame they went bust in the late 90's . Todays modern cats aint got nothing on these older sturdy well built cats . Enjoy her guys ❤
We love old school sailboats too. It's awesome that you're so close to where Supernova was made and stoked to have you along for the adventure :)
Great first video. Came up to it more or less by incident but loved every minute of it. Great job done! Very curious to all of your sailing adventures. Keep up the spirit! Rgds.
Thanks heaps! We will definitely keep up the spirit :D Hope you keep enjoying the videos
Gotta say you do a great job filming and editing
Sound track is great
Thanks very much, we put a lot of work into it so glad you like it :)
Good job you guys, my only negative is your color choice of the hull and dinette!
Not everyone's cup of tea :) What colour would you have picked?
You two are awesome, love the have a go attitude, learning on the job, love it, congratulations.
When you don't know anything to begin with, the only choice is to learn on the go or not do it lol and there's no way we're missing out on this adventure! Happy to have you along for the ride :)
Just found your channel, really like it!
Glad you like it. Just released a new video today, give it a watch if you have time :D
Loving this. this channel will be huge... Great to see the POV drone footage and all the skills. nice edit as well. you might benefit from radio microphones like the Rode or DJI ones especially in wind and echoey locations. cant wait do see what you get up to....
We did get a better mic after this, we started out with no filming and editing experience so this has been a lot to learn, I hope it shows that we are working hard to make better videos every time :-)
