  • Who would leave this on a boat?! Lucky we found it before the border guards.
    New country, new problems. It’s a good thing the border guards were nice.
    Great places and new faces. This was an amazing week aboard Supernova.
    We tick off a major goal from our bucket list… ALASKA!
    It was a wild ride all the way to Ketchikan, with another night crossing and a deserted anchorage along the way.
    Since we are real time, if anyone knows where we can find some bears up here that would be awesome.
    We hope you join Team Nova on our Patreon page!

    We want to know your coolest secret hiding spots that you've ever had, seen or heard of. It could be on a boat, when you were a kid, basically anytime anywhere. And what was hidden in them? Hope you enjoyed the episode. The support has been amazing. We're going to adventure even harder this week, and get a few boat jobs done too! If you liked the video, please subscribe, it really helps us out :D

      For 1 “really serious trip”, a friend of mine and I planned on hiding a M202 “for emergencies”. It was to be built into the superstructure of a steel boat with the plate welded back at certain points, filled and painted over, ready for use in “an emergency”.
      Beat that one….

    Welcome to Ketchikan. I was born and raised there. Sorry you had to go through the customs issues. What was it that you were missing?
    Okay. Here is a story for you. I own a 1976 Chevy truck. I had owned it for 20 years. Decided to fully restore it during covid. During weld repairs of the cab, I cut across the rear cab corners with a zip disc. Long story short, I cut right across a box of rifle cartridges that had been hidden down in there from a previous owner from over 20 years ago. I found 3 full boxes and two shotgun shells. Now I had been welding on this thing for months and generating heat and sparks everywhere. Lucky/Blessed to still be alive.

    • @sailing.supernova
      @sailing.supernova  Před rokem +1

      Aside from the customs issue, Ketchikan was amazing and even the border officers were very kind. Long story short, but we got some bad advice from a border guard in Washington. I needed a different visa to cross the border on a personal boat.
      Happy it worked out for you as well as it worked out for us regarding the found ammo. Crazy that you cut across it with a zip disk!

      @drewj.1654 Před měsícem

      @@sailing.supernova I agree with tossing them over the side. I wouldn't fire any of those old corroded rounds in a decent weapon. Salt water would have dissolved it all in a few months or years at most. Also, and this is completely sematic, but they're not "bullets." Bullets are the projectiles in ammunition or rounds. A round/cartridge has a bullet, propellant, wadding, primer and casing. "The more you know" LOL

    3mm bungy cord (with leader) is good for trolling, elasticity helps avoid hook ripping from mouth, keeps tension while dropping sail, get organised to pull, doesn't hurt hands.
    Research making your own lures, much cheaper. Erratic up down left right, rattle, flashy, something interesting predators want to chase.
    Pulled out of the car for being Aussie? Are we (non gun owners) considered a terrorist risk now?
    That was amazing re the salmon.
    A 1ltr bag of powdered milk weighs 1kg, makes 10ltrs, doesn't go off, make as needed, i.e. add tea spoon for coffee, mix in bowl before adding cereal.

    You were very lucky with the "fine" for having the wrong visa.. I saw on another CZcams channel that they were fined $1200 EACH (for arriving by boat instead of by plane) and they had to pay it or go to jail and then be deported (there is a 10 year waiting time then to be able to enter again I think). Read the small print please. For your jib sheet, please put a figure 8 knot after the last turning block so it cannot escape as it has done in the past. Good luck with your travels in Alaska. Looking forward to your adventures.

    No such thing as being too calm.. "Being too calm" as an offshore, or long distance sailor it will save your life. That calmness will able you to jump into action when an emergency happens. Have you ever seen someone I'm a distressed situation and has lost control because they are not calm. It never turns out good.
    From a sailor of 40 years. Those who freakout on sailboats never leave a long distance from thier home Port.
    A bad day sailing, is better than a good day at the workplace.
    one thing, those who have taken up sailing and are always in a hurry, tend to not know it forget what sailing isxall about. If someone is in a hurry one shouldn't choose the slowest form of transportation there is.
    MAY THE WINDS ALWAYS BE IN YOUR SAILS
