    I think this is really interesting. Its the long haul version of Ryanair or SWA. The prevailing view in the industry is that this cant really be done but I guess that some of the next gen long haul aircraft are now capable. For most people, simply getting to a place, on time and in one piece is the only thing they care about and for them, a ride at 50% of the prevailing competition HAS to be a good deal. It makes long haul travel affordable for a LOT of people that it was not for previously. For many people in the Philippines, Thailand and the like that work overseas, it means they can actually visit their families whilst working. So like Ryanair, or SWA, in its own way, this is a game changer. Would I make a habit of using it regularly? Probably not. On the other hand, if my budget was a bit tighter, I would be grateful to them for doing this.

      Debo Pacific doesn’t really do terribly long flights, except to Dubai. That said, the average Filipino is smaller and so 3-3-3 can work as can a Y460 A339. They must be doing a lot right as they have been in business since the mid-1990s. For a time, Philippine Airlines tried to compete with 414-seat A330-300s, but they ended up back to full-service 309-seat planes after Lucio Tan regained control of the flag carrier.

    To be fair though, Cebu Pacific caters mostly to small to medium sized asians especially Filipinos who averages at most 5'4 to 5'7 in height. Cebu Pacific started and is still a budget carrier who first wanted to give a chance for Filipinos to travel at a lower price per seat, allowing them to use the savings on their trip instead, and they want also to cater to Filipinos who are living/working abroad (OFWs) with a way for them to come home and see their families and get back to work in a pretty affordable price. Leg room wise, it is not great, but for us small Asians, it ain't bad either.

The dollars saved on a round trip can already be spent on accommodation and food. If they squeeze in onboard wifi (like Zipair), avoid incidents of overbooking and flight cancellations, and maintain prices, then they are perfect for most Filipinos.

    Hi Noel. I would like to comment on something in the video. You said that the A330Neo was designed for around 300, 350 passengers but in reality, the max pax configuration is 460 pax. It's the choice of every airline to choose how many passengers they carry in it. The maximum amount of passengers is limited by the amount of passengers a crew can evacuate in 90 seconds during certification of the aircraft. So Cebu can carry that many passengers on it, providing they also have the cabin crew for it. That is one cabin crew member per 50 passengers. In this case, you need a cabin crew of 10, you need an extra crew member for the 9 passengers making up the 9 in 459. Lol 😆

It cost around $125 for the ticket, so I took advantage of their offering to be able to buy the seat adjacent to you for another $125. So for $250 one way, I had lots of space with no one next to me. The cheapest economy seat on another airline at the time was around $350 one way, so it was a great deal. I added more for luggage, and a hot meal. The flight was on time too.

Back 27 years ago when I was flying to Jakarta for a job in Bogor, West Java, I flew a 747 to Singapore on Singapore Airlines. We were to leave at 2 AM and started loading at 1:45 and we were all set in ten minutes. Meanwhile, next to us was a PAL 747 bound for Manila that was leaving at 2:30 AM. Thing is, that would mean more luggage and catering too, but in the right situations where a lot of people need to go a short distance, maybe...

    • @ocsrc
      @ocsrc Před rokem +1

      I have seen these and the LOAD FACTOR is the biggest problem.
      The stand up seats actually weigh almost the same as a regular seat. Right now most planes are flying over 105% LOAD FACTOR
      The designers put in a safety margin and the airlines are literally pushing it right to the absolute maximum of how much weight they can put in that plane before it can NEVER be able to take off.
      They only put on enough fuel for an extra 30 minutes per flight to maximize the LOAD FACTOR.
      Planes are so heavy, if there is an emergency and they have to land immediately after takeoff, the plane can NEVER land without crashing.
      We have seen these crashes quietly kept off the news

      the effects of dumped fuel are arguably not so great as it tends to evaporate and flow upwards in the atmosphere if done above certain altitude, however, it is also known that most neighborhoods next to airports are poorer and will usually have special treatment when getting into higher education, thus somewhat masking any mental damage done by fuel ingestion.

      In my opinion, pre-Covid, Cebu Pacific was the most on-time of them all, Air Asia the worst. Post-Covid it appears all of them suffered. When I was in the Philippines in December 2022 there were lots of delays, not helped by poor airport operations/runway management. Looking at Flightradar24 recently, it looks like most flights depart reasonably on time. I'd happily fly Cebu Pacific to save money, and definitely on domestic flights. I flew Cebu Pac to Hong Kong from Manila on one of the older high density A330s before covid. It wasn’t bad, I paid extra for a seat at the front where most don’t think that upcharge is worth it. The FA’s enforced the seating, preventing others from spreading out there and I ended up with the center 3 seats to myself. At 5’9” I can deal with the legroom just as on their A320s but the shoulder room would be tight if I had seatmates. One of my worst flights in recent memory was an aisle seat in economy on one of American Airlines’ 10-across 777’s ORD-LAX. Horrible shoulder room.

    I don't really mind the bad seating lol, but i do understand that it's quite uncomfortable for some people. To me, you get what you paid for. You paid to travel to a location, you get there without luxury. Cebu Pacific, to me, is just one of the better uncomfortable planes that you can really book with in the Philippines. There's loads of horrible airlines in the Philippines, with Cebu Pacific just being the best one of them all.
    I was quite hesitant to even click on this video, since the comments we're expecting a more "luxury" type of service than-of a normal budget airliner. But I understand if this airline wasn't your taste. I am open for any criticism for what you have to say. To me, I don't really care about the comfort that Cebu Pacific should offer, but rather the friendliness of the staff and how good the food is on that flight. Either way, that is my opinion, and i'm open for the opinions of other commentors, and probably you.
