- Wooden handgrips or kinogrips are becoming more and more popular. I’ve had my DIY wooden grips for a couple years now and I get compliments on them constantly when I’m out on shoots - but besides being a conversation starter they’re ergonomic, practical, durable, can be used on a variety of camera rigs - and they're easy to make! Most of the time wooden handgrips or kinogrips retail for nearly $100 or more, but today, we’ll be making our very own for around $12 per grip. In the video I'll cover how to make traditional handgrips as well as some of the really cool spherical ones.
MATERIALS:
- 2 1/4" wooden doll head (NOT a creepy one)
- Scrap wood
- Unthreaded rosettes: amzn.to/2tocgCP
- Threaded rosettes: amzn.to/2MNC3LK
- SmallRig wingnut (1599): bit.ly/2ZL7tYh
- Itty bitty screws
- Rosette adaptor with 15mm rod clamp: amzn.to/35kKvsf
- Rosette extension arms: amzn.to/2ZQ4s91

Great tutorial! I'm going to try this soon.
Let me know how it turns out!
YOO I was just gluing my pieces of wood together right now when I stumbled across this video!!!! this is so helpful. I was gonna try to make my own without any help but now i realize that it would have been a mess... I will let you know how it turns out!!!
Let us know how it turns out!
Nice! Will wait until spring to make a custom one, wanted to make one bit with a Rec. button if it's possible.
Keep it up!
Awesome! And I wanted to incorporate a start/stop button but it increased the price and amount of work way too much and I was worried it wouldn't be as fun for people that way.
this is super cool, expecting share how to make cz-75 compact wood grips :)
For a firearm?
damn this is a good tutorial
Thanks! Means a lot 🤗🤗🤗
Very cool, was just hoping someone had already made their own. Love the Kinogrip style but can't justify the cost of a wooden ball with a rosette.
Yeah, definitely not for every budget that's for sure - thanks for watching!
Nice work! Do you find the polyurethane finish ever getting sticky when the ambient temp. is high.
Thanks! And I appreciate the comment - the glossy stuff never gets tacky or sticky, but I did a wax one to see how that would hold up and it was the worst, always felt like my hands were gross after holding it for more than just a minute. I should have known but wanted to try a few different methods out.
@@DroiMedia Thanks for the additional information, I may have to try fabricating grips myself.
Do itttttt! And then let me know how they turn out!
2:20 😬
Yeah I don't exactly meet OSHA standards most days 🤪
goodness, hand holding the knob, in a cloth, while using a forstner bit. I was afraid for your fingers
Oh yeah man, not my brightest moment, I went nice and slow though :) (had gloves and all that jazz on too for most of it, but still not wise)
it's good content to watch but when you add all the tools "unless you already have them" it's quite expensive so you rather just buy one.
Yeah all DIY stuff is like that, fortunately for me I've got quite a bit of the stuff needed to do the work already, which makes it easier for me. Ultimately up to each person to decide if the DIY route is worth their time and effort 😊 thanks for watching!
