This video is so legendary, that the original was taken down due to rights claimed over it, re-posted, re-deleted, re-re-posted, you can’t erase it. It will be here forever, because, just to re situate the context at the time, Jojo Mayer was not as known as you could imagine. After this video, it was like a bomb, “who is this guy ? How can he play that fast, how many left hands does he have ? Is it a real right foot or a mechanical one ? How can he talk so chilled out after that ?”

I was at this event. He blew all of us away. Danny Carey also played at this event but couldn't be filmed and isn't on the DVD.
Great reaction as always, Andy! This is an amazing song and Jojo's left hand is ridiculous throughout the whole thing. I think that "You don't get better by practicing, you get better by playing" actually goes back to Buddy Rich. Not bad company to be in!

Oh man I had this Modern Drummer Festival DVD when it came out. I remember buying it for Chris Adler and Jason Bittner, but Paice's performance and Mayer with Nerve made it one of my favorite drum videos ever!!
This changed my life, see him 4 years after live in Katowice. Mindblowing!!

where did drum and bass come from in the first place??
some kids playing around with a sampler and the b side of the winstons "amen brother"
the amen brother break was 100% the real deal on the real drums,that got tweaked a bit!

I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t point out that you open the video by saying “hey hey what’s up Andrew, it’s me CZcams here.” Is there an inside joke I’m out of the loop on? Otherwise it’s a great blooper and great video, just added every Jojo album to my Spotify.
Re the bass sound when it first comes in: sounds like maybe a pitch shift pedal (like a Pitch Fork) and a soft fuzz. At least that’s how I’d try to get that kind of sound with my limited board. Could also, maybe, be a bass synth pedal. Very cool sound either way.

I always found traditional grip so awkward but when I see guys like Mayer or Weckl it seems like the way to go.
