Where is your permit?! [S5 - Eps. 74]

- In this episode I am trying to ride to Francistown. I am passing another veterinary checkpoint, which is set up to control an outbreak of foot and mouth disease amongst cattle. What I don't realise is that they are using the same checkpoint as a region border checkpoint and I need a permit to cross it. The online system to apply for such a permit didn't work properly, and it looks like he is not going to let me pass at first...

Makes me homesick. I grew up in Francistown but now live in Edinburgh, Scotland. Actually miss the heat and dust. Francistown is a lot different these days…
This lady apologizes to cows when she disrupts their peaceful morning. Hilarious! Gotta love her.
I actually lived in Bobonong when I was young.... and my dad and I would drive that road on the weekends to visit the cattle post where he kept our livestock. Finally got my full motorbike license this year and I know exactly what I am doing next time I get some time off of work!!!!
It's been such a great nostalgic trip watching these. Thank you.
You have an extraordinary gift in dealing with people in all situations. You are such a positive person. I learn so much from you Noraly you are a truly special soul.
That Checkpoint guy was so bored; he was excited there was finally a victim I mean a live person that he can play a joke on. You were the highlight of his day Noraly

Crossing guards not a problem when you're honest and also charming. Your laughter calms the beast in all off us. Hope you never run out of countries to explore. I really enjoy traveling with you. "The sister one can only dream of having. " Safe travels Noraly 🏍🏍🙋♂️
What beast? It’s a guard at a checkpoint that she didn’t properly signup to cross through yet. He was never upset or beast, she literally calmed nothing. She was at fault and laughed it off for being such a dud. You slow asf

I thought the same thing. Security is so tiring and boring they need someone to talk to
For a moment i was scared there Noraly when the gentleman asked for a permit. I live in Botswana and i thought to myself i should have warned her. Enjoy the rest of your stay here.
I got to know this channel by accident a month and half ago and I never missed a single episode...
Who else?
Same thing happened to me 3yrs ago when Noraly had 100k. Following her since then.
Great channel with a very human, human.
It came up in my 'recommendeds' one day when she was riding through Eastern Europe on her first big trip & I clicked on a video by accident. Then I watched another. Then another. Then I subscribed & I've been here ever since...
My first was Noraly having to change her tube on the side of the road some where in Argentina I believe... it’s the only time I seen her have tire issue, which to me is incredible
6 months ago if I remember correctly 😎👍
I appreciate how you are spicing your intros up! You have the permit to travel the world, film your rides and fill your soul with unpaved roads, Noraly! You do you girl!

DHL has an office in Francistown, Botswana?! Your travels are absolutely crushing my imagination of what these areas actually look like. Fantastic, and I think I am not alone. No wonder you are receiving some 12,000 likes on every video! Cheers from San Francisco, California.
The glimpse of your ride prep was a good idea for the opening of the video it probably satisfied the curiosity of many viewers of what it takes to gear up for your rides, me included.
Props to the border man. 'Yeah, you need a permit', all dead serious like. He sure had everyone there ^^
It’s amusing that the officer just wanted a conversation in English! Nice drone footage of the area. Ride safe Noraly!

What a way to deal with the security man! Loved it. He didn't realize Itchy Boots is always has a way through. You did give a moment to laugh. Thanks and God bless you.
“Afraid? Me? NO! “ …yet again your relentless spirit of adventure baffles those who’s track it crosses. Of course they want you to stop for a chat, who wouldn’t!

I'm Dutch as well, but this lady has bigger balls than me! )) Love these video's. Have a safe ride!
Noraly has reached very remote areas which one can only dream about, wow! Brave, confident, relaxed and adventurous indeed. Keep going!
Hi Noraly - most rivers in the southern-african region only flow during rain-fall, the rest of the time they are dry. From an aircraft you can see the water move down the river bed like a 'pulse', dry bed ahead, damp bed behind. The reason for the wide beds is that when it rains it is usually as a result of storm activity;. we don't get much rain, but when we do, we get it all at once !! The point being, even in wet seasons, the rivers do not 'flow' in the conventional sense.
Good info- 😊
@@tetedur377 -ABQ NM USA Seasonal 'Runoff predictably flowed through flood control channels last month, eliminating several vagrant lives, from 'camping' in the channels, ;[

I rewatched a couple of your Tajikistan episodes yesterday and it was immediately clear how your skills on the bike have improved over time. Not only that, video editing and story line have also gotten better. It is the highlight of my morning every time you post a new video ... Thank you Norally.
I noted today how much more confident you are on deep sand. Today you hardly mentioned it, and your speed has picked up to an almost alarming pace. You are 10 times the rider you were in S. America, and I was impressed with your skills there!
It's true... Especially with the editing part... It's amazing... I wonder where she gets her music and if she does give credits or she does buy the music.
Nice to see how you gear up for the day's adventure
What an adventure today, I am glad that the guard was only joking and that almost everything went easy. Your trip today was very interesting again, and I enjoyed it very much. Take care Noraly, and see you tomorrow.

You can't stop time . She's getting everything she can out

The dry river beds are quite normal. They only flow after the rain and dry up again. The Dikgatlhong Dam is in the Sashe River and does not give hydropower. It supports Francis Town and the coalfields where they generate power from coal.
The Sashe River is much larger than the Limpopo River, and when in flood, the farmers in the Limpopo River beyond the confluence rejoice. The Sashe and Limpopo have lots of water seeping below the sand, and many farmers pump that water for their crops.
Hey Noraly! I am so stoked, just wanted to let you know that after getting my license a month ago I bought a secondhand CB500x this weekend! It's in the colour scheme of Africa (khaki/sand/orange) and I can't wait to pick it up and start riding :D
Nice, on the process of getting mine all because of the inspiration from Noraly
Congratulations! Ride safe!
Good man
Wise choice Jeroen. I have a 2015 Honda CB500X which I purchased second hand 2 years ago with 19,000 km on the ‘clock’. I’ve now ridden another 15,000 km on it. This is my 7th motorcycle (I’m 66) and it’s by far the most comfortable, reliable, smooth and economical (fuel wise - at least 450 km from one tank of fuel) of any motorcycle I’ve owned. In short, it’s ‘sweet’. Don’t pay any attention to people describing it as a learner’s bike or an entry level machine. Total rubbish. You will be well able to cruise comfortably on your new machine at 110 km/hour all day with ample additional acceleration and speed for the average motorcyclist. Granted, it’s nowhere near as nimble or versatile off road as Norally’s little Honda or, by way of another example, a Yamaha XT250, but it will get you to those unsealed roads far quicker and with less ‘engine strain’ than such smaller machines. It’s also an excellent commuter around town. In four days time I’m heading off on my CB500X (with SW Motech panniers) with a mate (riding his Honda Shadow - so this time I’ll be riding on sealed roads) to enjoy a four day @2,000 km ride throughout the south of Western Australia - and I have complete confidence in my machine. Enjoy the experience of every ride (more than racing to get to your destinations in a hurry) on your new motorcycle …. ride with safety first in mind (always anticipating events in order to be one step ahead of ‘the game’) and hopefully, like me, you’ll get to enjoy years of enjoyable motorcycling (for me now almost 50 years). Norally totally demolishes the image of the tough macho motorcyclist - most often Prima donnas. She’s tougher - and ‘cooler’ - than 90% of all the male riders out there. It’s all about technique - not speed and noise - and ‘smelling the roses’ as you ride.
@@macalacalan1175 wonderful description John! Smelling the roses, that's exactly what it is. If you are riding, there's nothing else!
I mean this adventure is beyond amazing. I can't even say how this made me feel. AMAZING! OUTSTANDING!! INSPIRING!!
I love the way you suit up in your motor cycle riding outfit, its like seeing a military Jet Fighter Pilot suiting up to fly his Fighter Plane-- Cool Itchy Boots, very Cool...

15:37 ;That fence is just a cordon fence . it's just to keep domestic animals in Botswana from crossing to Zimbabwe.
The borderline is actually in the middle of the river .
You are an amazingly brave woman, doing what you love and enjoying life to the fullest.
Wow! What a jazzy beginning! She is becoming a movie director, sound editor and of course as always the star! I had to say this before I could start watching the video.
Wonderful episode as always Noraly. Africa really seems to have an ebb and flow to it - it's own particular speed. One just has to go with the flow and just experience it. Great to see the variety of animal life both wild and domesticated, the modes of travel eg donkey cart, bicycle, trucks, car, etc, and the terrain. Oooh...those African "roads"! - one must be prepared for everything and anything in that department!
Also good to see that you can be totally out in the boondocks but can also find places like Francistown which has all the modern amenities and can be an "oasis" in the middle of all the dust and heat.
Those dry riverbeds remind me on Australia where I lived for a year or two.
The fauna & flora through your lenses coupled with the music is just epic!
Nice details packing your luggage and preparing the trip, thanks Noraly respect!
I’ve been watching your videos since recovering from open heart surgery - they have brought value to me and I haven’t ever commented before but today’s video - the drone footage after around 7:40 - while not of some waterfall or scenic vista I found to be beautiful (especially combined with your music selection) thank you for what you do

Hope we'll see you soon in Namibia after you journey...for a well deserved vacation, maybe for 12 months 😂
Itchy - you have such a wonderful personality!
The dry rivers are seasonal. They look dead, but in the rainy season they can fill up very fast, then disappear just as fast. There is often water below the surface, hence tye trees. The uprooted tree would have been knocked down by violent flash floods. There's been a lot of rain in Southern Africa for the last 2 years, after a period of drought. Interesting to see the drone footage of the Limpopo in an earlier video, full with water. It is usually dry at this time of the year.
Like word flash floods .

Best opening scene yet, the Boss getting ready for another day at the office. Love it.
Important fact I learned today: donkey carts in Botswana don’t have rear view mirrors😁. It’s these sorts of details that make the channel so great. That and the editing - the editing of dressing and loading the bike was a masterpiece!

I think that was a particularly entertaining video. I think it is the very first video where you have filmed youself as the subject, for any more than slight glimpses. I think this gave me, the viewer, a presence in the film, (which held me) to feel what it is like to deal with all the situations and encounters you have on the way, and what kind of character it takes to enjoy (mostly) these continuously unfolding situations.
That, along with your continually improving filming and production. You work very hard to do what you do and I apreciate it. Thankyou.

"Eish" South African exclamation. Originates from Zulu "iShisa mZambane" (Hot Potatoes). A Zulu person would normally say Potatoes Hot but over the decades it swapped to Hot Potatoes and later shortened to "Eish" originally exclaimed as a bit of a surprised shriek
That is the theme song of the 'Wiggles', an entertainment group for kiddies, who sing: "hot potato hot potato" while wiggling their hands in the air.
Wrong !! Eish is From SOWETO Tsotsi Taal 's in the 70's Corruption of The English WORD !! Ouch!! or Eina in Afrikaans!! and it was By People who Speaks AFRIKAANS /TSWANA my Broer !! Outjies Van Jozi af,meaning Joburg Boys who Spoke SETSOTI by Ditsotsi
The Vendas also use eish a lot. Mostly to show sympathy or embarrassment
Ha ha ha,
This is a first time I'm hearing this, have never heard the origin of Eish. 😁😁😁
(I did Zulu as a first language).
I am now living in the Venda region forb30 years and I first hear the expressions here. Before that I stayed in Sotho and Twana speaking regions and I never heard it there.
I really think the VhaVendas can lay claim to the expression.
Nice to see you pack up Savannah for once. Sorry that you almost stumbled over that "hot dog" so early in the morning.
Nice video as always.
Love to see the preparation part of your videos. It shows how much work goes on behind the scenes.
I'm sure you would have seen many similar wide and dry river beds when you were working in Australia. .
Southern African countries and Australia are similar in the way they are mostly very dry and the rivers only flow in the wet season - (sometimes)

My first thought when I saw the drone shot was that you were truly traveling in the middle of nowhere. Such a vast landscape with only a tiny dirt road crossing through it and an even tinier Savanna speeding along.
You make great videos, I've watched all your seasons and they are only getting better . Great job Norali and keep it up, you've become quite famous out there !
When I saw the intro I wondered if you got through without a permit. Of course. Just another friendly encounter with people who are surprised by to see a solo lady adventurer.
The sand river outside Bobonong is also the Motloutse. I lived in Selebi Phikwe for 13 years and used to go down to the Motloutse. In the rainy season you get flash floods in the river that can come with no warning. I had a friend stuck in the riverbed in a Landrover that was completely submerged. Needed a Landcruiser to get him out. 😂. We used to travel out to S Africa via Zanzibar border post, a low level bridge impassable if the Limpopo is high, or via Stockpoort just outside Lephalale which has a higher bridge. This avoided queues at Groblersbrug/Martin's Drift, the main border crossing in NE Botswana.
I left in 2004, one of the best countries I have lived in.
You must come back
