I was always keen to learning, but not always liked being taught.
I believe that all bad teachers are bad in their own way, but there are qualities that unite all good teachers together.
In this video I would like to tell you about what distinguishes a good teacher from a bad one.
It is phenomenal to see how one good teacher can change an entire direction of someone's life. The best example is of the physicist Stephen Hawking, who was inspired by his teacher Dikran Tahta, without Tahta we might have lost the greatest physicist of the century.
In this personal story I tell you how I met a wonderful teacher at the Tretyakov Art Gallery. She changed the direction of my life by inspiring me to love art, to enjoy reading and to be passionate about knowledge.

Thank you for watching and your kind words! She was such an incredible individual. It's been 17 years and I come back to this memory every now and then. :) I wish all the teachers were as wise as her at schools. They could raise an extraordinary generation of young people :)
❤ Unfortunately I have a long list of the BAD, VERY BAD AND WORST LOL But I do remember my Art History teacher in Secondary school who awakened my love of art which has never left me. We could not sadly go to any galleries with paintings from the masters as this was in Nairobi Kenya, but she had a whole host of books and yes facts but the most beautiful and intriguing ones. The name she went by was Sunbird no miss or surname just Sunbird.
Really enjoyed this story - great presentation! This summed up many of my thoughts about pedagogy. The museum curator sounds like a great person.
I often go through different scenarios of how my life could have unfolded IF... I had a good physics, chemistry, maths teachers. I know that people have inclinations towards either humanities or STEM fields. But still, it makes one think, do I like art because of a good teacher or because of my inclination?

Ես էտ նույն ձևով սկսել եմ անգլերեն սովորել դպրոցում, նոր ուսուցիչ եկավ ու ետ քո ասած curiosity-ն արթնացրեց իմ մոտ դեպի անգլերեն։
Իսկ արվեսի մասին դպրոցից ոչ մի բան, լավ կեղներ մեր մոտ էլ լիներ Ռուսաստանի պես՝ հարուստ, զարգացած արվեստ։
Ես էլ որ գնացել էի Այվազովսկու նկարները նայելու՝ մեր մոտ, Երևան, ելի տենց խորացած նայում էի (սա հորիցս եմ սովորել ու արվեստի մասին ամեն ինչն էլ)

@@VashikArmenikus i only discovered him 30 years ago, I found a print at a yard sale, then saw another in a restaurant in York, Maine and finally a friend knowing my love for his work gave me a book. After I read Moby Dick last year I found myself looking at them again. Exquisite. Passionate.

Thank you so much Katelin. I often wonder how different my life could have been if I had good science teachers at school. I love reading books by physicists and biologists today. But back then, because of bad teachers I used to reject those. :)

Thanks for this video. Я искала мудрых мыслей о том, как быть хорошим учителем, но нашла даже больше - я вспомнила себя в детстве.
Трудно вспомнить хороших учителей, легче вспомнить плохих. В университете у меня был прекрасный преподаватель по истории Ближнего Востока современной, и в нем больше всего мне понравились его высокие моральные качества, вера и глубокое знание его предмета, любовь к нему. Какая-то оторванность от всего пошлого и попсового. Позже я узнала, что он пошел воевать на фронт (АТО) и подумала, что это полностью соответствует его характеру и морали.
Плохие преподаватели были в основном в школе - главное что их объединяло, это зацикленности на себе, на своем эго.

Да, очень интересно как школьные учителя отличаются от тех из университета. Наверное причина очевидная. Всё таки чтобы преподавать в университете нужен более глубокий интерес и специализация в предмете, чем в школе. Но у меня были учителя истории и литературы которые были замечательными!
У меня была преподавательница Вера Александровна (до сих помню имя), она так обьясняла Войну и Мир с такими психологическими и философскими элементами, что все четырнадцати летние школьники с открытыми ртами слушали =) Сейчас в англоязычных странах такие преподаватели просто на охват.
@@VashikArmenikus да, я тоже вчера вспоминала свою учительницу по литературе зарубежной, она кстати, была в прошлом монахиней, и в конце своей жизни снова вернулась в монастырь. При этом она была строгая, но искала в учениках проницательность и одаренность, спрашивала что то больше программных вопросов на каждом уроке. Я до сих пор наизусть помню урывок из поэмы Лермонтова: "старик, я слышал много раз, что ты меня от смерти спас. Зачем? Угрюм и одинок, грозой оторванный листок, я вырос в сумрачных стенах, душой дитя, судьбой монах.." и т.д.
Да, спасибо за то, что ваши видео заставляют вспомнить хорошие моменты из прошлого и обдумать их.

Many teachers who love their subject above all else are unable to accept students who cannot see anything fascinating about their subject. They then behave as if their school subject is the only one, whereas students have to give 100% in ALL other subjects
