Have you ever seen a musician so happy to be playing as Levon was? With that big grin, he just looked so happy to still be able to be on stage. He was the realest real deal.
The créme De la créme🎉
Met him once he was a gentleman and someone who ill never forget
You couldn't wipe that smile off of Levon's face if you tried. Love it
Hey that’s the great Howard Johnson on the tuba! Levon Helm shines on the mandolin with his smiles and you can hear it above all the music on the stage. Followed up on the comment and searched the original song from the Prairie Ramblers from 1935!
Do I vaguely recall that he was part of the SNL band?
Levon Helm, the coolest dude that ever walked planet Earth.
brother, you are too right
Well, I'd give him 3rd after Jerry & Bobby
@@jakelehman822all tied for 1st 😃 ✌️ ❤
Ditto, Terry Martin! He was born hip!
I'm 65 years young and it's absolutely the best version of that song I have ever heard. That's a feeling money can't buy. but thank you to everyone who made this possible I greatly appreciate it
Levon Helm, one of the greatest there is. RIP
this tune is such a flawless part of the American songbook, it was a great choice for this collaborative effort. I enjoyed greatly.
I'm 73, been listening to Levon since my hippy days! Would have really loved to'v been there with these folks at this jam. All these peeps are GREAT! Love the horn section especially!
I can't get enough of this clip! I 've been a musician for 51 years and this clip did my head. It has everything!!! Virtuoso instrumentalist, honey gold lyrics, taste tone technique timing is otherworldly as if they had trained al their lives collectively to perform this almost Philharmonic pece except for the rit of colour and contrast. Amazing!!!!!
Don't get better then this folks! This is what they call real music! R.I.P Levon
Absolutely agreed.
Among all the other excellent musician here I believe it's Cindy Cashdollar playing slide. What a crew!
It was such a great experience to be present!
It is indeed Cindy Cashdollar, one of our greatest steel guitar players, who grew up in Woodstock, New York, and is also one Hell of a dobro player. Now 68 years old.
With a name like - LEVON - I wouldn't expect anything less - R.I P.
I can’t get enough of this video. I can’t wait for the return of concerts, I need a live music fix like I need oxygen.
Amen to that!
Levon has retired from life, but have his works, which will remain with us. Thanks you so much, Levon!
The music is a 9.5. The joyous countenance of the musicians is a 10.
Who’s the most happy when singing and playing? LEVON that’s who😄. I’ll miss him until the day I die, “When I’m Gone” is played at my celebration of life & I get to play the spoons with Levon and whoever else he’s jammin” with in heaven😇.
The talent is beyond measure
That horn section break has all the synchronicity of a Grateful Dead guitar solo, yet still fun.
SO GREAT. j Vincent Edwards love and peace to all thanks LEVON
LEVON HELM THANKS SO VEY MUCH FOR MAKING THIS WORLD A LOT MORE HAPPY
LOVE that lap steel!!
Love Levon. I still miss him every day
Never gets old! (If truth be told.) Corleone, G.
What a great song. Levon loves music and the band. What a great man he was. God Bless Lavon and the band. They are fun to listen to.
Thanks for sharing. Truly beautiful. The ten people that gave this "thumbs down" should have their thumbs removed.
OR SOMETHING WORSE
In this video Amy Helm, Levon's Daughter (Pink Dress) was about 6 months pregnant, she told me she would sing when she could get a deep enough breath. I am very glad Levon got to meet his grandchild and spend time before he passed away. I have some video of him sitting and playing the mandolin for the baby.
Well Gary , please show the video so us Levon fans can see .. uhh are you still there??
@@JOHNSAG1gary please
Amy, Levon's daughter is in the white dress playing guitar
@@kellylinzi that'd be a saturday night pink dress Amy's wearing (yep she's pregnant)
..the gal in the white dress playing guitar is Larry's wife.
Mick Kollins I
Larry Campbell is a really great talent, it's all about breaks. This guy has got more talent then many many big acts.
He certainly has - toured with lots of famous artists very talented - plays multiple instruments.
I don't know much of him but it seems he's also a very good person.
He was the best when he played with Bobby too.
larry campbell great
I totally agree, I'm a big fan of Larry's music.
brian davis, just in case nobody has answered your question yet, the lap steel player is Cindy Cashdollar. She lives here in Austin and I've gotten to see her play more than my share. I feel very lucky.
"jug band" blues at its finest........r.i.p., Levon........hard to beat the sound of a vintage lap steel guitar!
Levon and Wier. True legends of music.
Preach!
RIP Levon Helm, what a great talent and your missed.
Bless Levon Helm, wherever he is. I miss him. :)
Levon, wish you were still with us!!!
IN SPIRIT , brother 🌹 👌 he's still smiling...
Thanks Levon and The Band - RIP Brother
Thank God, I was there... that was an amazing day.
It's cool to see so many comments with love for the Late Great Levon Helm.
This is about the last time I saw Levon. After the show, my wife said, "Thank you!" He shook her hand and said, "No. Thank YOU!"
the Levon , we knew !
He was a humble man. I always think of him when the native Columbines bloom because that was when he passed. He was as unassuming and of the earth as they are.
Forever Levon
I can’t add nothing to this! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Nothing but a smile haha
always loved the Dead doing this song ,but this version is something else ! Everyone is great, everyone clearly having fun.Cheers me up every time I watch it.
Agreed...Have you heard Rory Gallagher's version?
I was right there with ya on This being The Dead & we didn't need covers. However, this right here is phenomena! Levon & EVERYONE on stage is having a helluva time. This is doesn't even seen like a cover. These guys made this one theirs! Hats off bc I'm Dead for Life so to do this with one of of theirs it a real treat! I mean, absolutely outstanding!
I love the swing the Levon Helm band adds to this song.
Man! This is a wonderful rendition of Deep Elem Blues! Levon was one of the greats. And that woman playing the lap steel is magnificent!
Cindy doing excellent performance and Levon Helm Band...Great group of magical blues players!
What a groove! RIP Levon.
A little known fact that all of the members of Levon's Band are all multi-instrumentalists, something not often if ever seen anymore. Levon- Drums, Guitar, Mandolin,Vocalist| Larry Campbell- Violin, electric and acoustic guitar, vocalist, and band leader|Brian Mitchell- Piano, Organ, Accordion, Harmonica, Vocalist, Tambourine|Amy Helm- Guitar, Vocalist, Drummer, Mandolin|Theresa Williams- Guitar and Vocalist| Plus all the wind instrumentalists.
shame on you, you forgot the fantastic cindy cash dollar from texas on pedal steel
she's not playing pedal steel - that's a dobro or lap guitar
I don't ever remember setting up a Steel Guitar on Satage. Levon and I were close friends. There was an organ, piano, multiple guitars just electric and acoustic unless you are referring to someone using a foot pedal but Larry was the main guitarist and he didn't use one, fiddle, mandolin, drums, and the wind section. I ran all the microphone cables and never hooked up a table or lap steel guitar, although I love the sound of them. I was not at this show but usually there was a guest band member who would show up at every show and sit in, happened every show. So there could have been something different at this show.
Gary198101 My comment on Cindy playing lap guitar and not a pedal steel guitar was merely to set the record straight - that pedal steel guitar is a completely different instrument than a a lap guitar guitar - it produces a completely different sound and it's played very differently (as a matter of fact I remember many years ago reading no less an opinion from a true multi-instrumentalist, Jerry Garcia, that pedal steel was by far the most difficult of guitars
I believe I have seen one come up on Pawn Stars before. I never saw one with any of Levon's equipment so it would have been brought by the guest artist. The only different instrument I set up on stage was for Cheryl Crow during Ramble at the Ryman, it's not something I have ever seen perhaps a bow harp or something, she played it in a duet with Levon on "No Depression in Heaven" it used a small microphone that was just plugged into one of the guitar ports. It was only used for the one song.
I love these people so much
Levon's grinnin' like a ole mule chewin' on a honey comb! LOL!
And that gal on the pedal steel just TEARS it up!
That's a lap steel not a pedal steel.
Well, s'cuse me all to hell....
Cindy Cashdollar she started out playing gigs with Danko/Helm years ago then joined for years Asleep at the Wheel a Woodstock favorite and true Virtuoso.!
Big difference
@@stephenenglebrightsometimes we all need a little learnin along with NICE

Wow. GREAT version with the horns and steel.
wow lucky you.I saw the Dead in Seattle just before Jerry passed on and that was great, and I caught Bob with his band Bobby and the Midnights in Vancouver which blew my mind so I can imagine the vibes coming of the stage on that day.Nice.
This was such a good show and fun weekend. I miss seeing Levon and I miss the Vibes. It was one of my first big festivals, I went when they were in NY for 2 years and then kept going. It was always a blast and had the best lineups
Damn I miss the Vibes. Some great times on that sweaty field in Seaside Park.
i know!!! GOTV was the best!!
Ol' Bob still looks pretty spaced out!
That was a great (and HOT) day. I miss Levon.

So long Levon
No cell phones yet... heaven !!
Jump straight to the jam around 5:05 -- even Bob Weir and Levon Helm were thinking "what a great concert to be part of," when the hot horn section jumped into a Dixieland breakdown about a minute in.
I'm not sure I've ever seen/heard a better steel player...wow
these old time fiddlers they play pretty darn good. Wish they was in my backyard...
Oh hell YA
Agreed Larry Campbell is epic!
