    The game sounds really interesting, but I'm surprised an app wasn't built to be used with the game, for players to join a 'chat room.' Example, everyone opens the app, game master gets a random generated code for all to join, and then you can name your character. I feel this would be a lot simpler than everyone group chatting on other apps. Same with the voice recorder, should be built in the app.

    This game looks really interesting! One thing I think should be highlighted, although seems very trivial, is that the game at its core is a RPG, not a detective/mystery solving game. Threads comes up from the cards, along with what the players come up with, are incidents that drive the narrative, not simply clues like from Cluedo for player to solve the case.

  • @nightcatarts
    @nightcatarts Před 4 lety +38

    This has quite a lot more structure than I was expecting, but I suppose that's necessary to prevent idle gossip & jokes flying back & forth between the players when the pseudo-GM can't see. I like that it uses a soundtrack as a timer; that's a clever approach.

    Great summary. I decided to start 2021 with a RPG combo, and since I'm a huge fan of ViewScream I wanted to find something that was more or less "specular" to it, which I believe Alice is Missing is (with one game relying entirely on videochat and the other on text messages). So I bought it yesterday to try it tonight, without ever playing it or seeing it played before: videos such as yours are a huge help.

    • @arturocaissut1071
      @arturocaissut1071 Před 2 lety +2

      @@jonathansoderin751 I think it's an amazing game, I've run it three times with different players and it was always a great experience although different depending on the group. One important caveat: it's really crucial to be on the same page in terms of expectations and mood. During one of our runs we had one player taking it lightly, roleplaying his character as a sort of dumbass/parody, and this was awkward at times since the rest of the group was oriented towards a melancholic, introspective type of game. Basically it's the usual advice: get things straight from the beginning, be sure everyone is comfortable and up to the task, and you'll have a great time.

      There are some possibilties to play exclusively through the phones, if you use some extra-rules (and buy the pdf-version).
      E.g. I printed every timer-card as a pdf with the number on the first page and the instructions on the second page. After naming them similar I made some folders with the names and copy the timers into the folders, same with the drive. When selecting a person or place, they may roll a dice (6 is reroll), to get a random card. The ones who own the 20 and 30 card have to write down the places/persons which were picked an may roll their dice for the list.

We have a laptop, but as we are punks (anarchists) we only have very basic mobile phones, and no one in the group has a smartphone (and given our life philosophy, we never will have one). I have a very basic cell phone from 2006 (still working perfectly), and my friends in my gaming group have also very similar phones. I still hope that we can get into this game with these assets.

    This video said a whole lot without saying much of anything, honestly. It's okay to go ahead and clearly spell some things out. What is the "objective" of the game? What is the conclusion? What do half of those "final questions" even mean? Was someone in the group the killer/kidnapper/whatever? What is the win/lose scenario? IS there a win/lose scenario? There's just SO MUCH that wasn't explained. Primarily WHAT is the actual OBJECTIVE?
    It's a cool idea, but this "explanation" video seems so hesitant to actually explain anything that it feels like maybe the game is incomplete or missing something vital and the creators just want us to buy it without knowing.
    I get the feeling that the game is kinda like Clue. But it feels as if Clue has been described as "It's a game where dice are rolled and tokens are moved around a gameboard with a VERY intriguing objective in mind. Involves characters and the use of tools and locations, as well as a certain form of deductive reasoning."
    Unless an "actual" how-to-play video is put out with a clearer description of how the game is played and what the objective is, I'm going to have to give this one a pass. Because as it stands, it feels as if there may be some holes and incomplete rules that make it hard to fulfill an expectation, and thus the designers are afraid to set any. Instead leaving it to us to "imagine" the game as perhaps something that it isn't.
