Shadow was way ahead of everyone even in the 70's, experimenting with and successfully fusing/mixing various genres. Right here on this track you can distinctly hear subtle elements of reggae and North American funk superbly blended with the traditional calypso musical outlays. The man is sheer GENIUS!!
Agree with you 100 %.. I call it the pick of great music,, the eighties,, and bcuz of that I have a very hard time buying or even listening to what's presented to us now a days as called music.. Much make no sense at all..
TO ALL SHADOW'S SOCA FANS, ACCORDING TO THIS T&T'S 1979 HIT "DON'T TRY THAT", EVERY STUDENT MUST SPEAK WHEN SPOKEN TO, AND TO THEN PRO-GRADS, CONGRATS!!
wicked bassline, SHADOW and ART DE COTEAU was a force, he produced some of the best hits from shadow, the complimented each other well, they did not get the recognition they should have but 2 legends in my book
These were the days of Shadow at his BEST under the musical directorship of Professor Art De Coteau. After the death of Art De Coteau, Shadow switched to Frankie McKintosh for a period. Under Frankie, Shadow did continue to exhibit his lyrical and melodic prowess, but it was never the same in terms of the musical arrangements under Frankie. The magic/DeZessness was gone!

Rohan Mangal, I don't know if what follows is what your query is about, but in 2001 Shadow released an album entitled "Just For You" and the #7 track is one called "HIV". It can be found elsewhere on CZcams. This is the same album that spurned the monster hits, "You Lookin' For Horn" and "Stranger". The latter earning Shadow the Roadmarch Title of said year.
The combination of Shadow & Art De Couteau was unmatched. Afro-Caribbean vibes at its finest...
SHADOW WAS REALLY DIFFERENT FROM OTHER CALYPSONIANS. HIS BASSLINE WAS SOMETHING ELSE SHADOW & KING SHORT SHIRT ARE MY TWO FAVOURITE CALYPSO SINGERS.
Winston Bailey, The Mighty Shadow, was born in Belmont, Port of Spain, Trinidad, and grew up in Tobago. A true true son of Trinbago!

People born after 1990 miss real music both local and international
No doubt but thanks to technology they can still be exposed to and enjoy vintage calypso and Shadow's beautiful classics.

Lyrics below ~
A lady
Calling me her turtledove
She told me
Give up music for her love
I said stop dat ( Stop dat)
I don't want dat ( Ah don't want dat)
Miss lady
I don't know what scene you are on
But baby
You could take that love and run
I don't want dat ( Ah don't want dat)
So don't try dat
CHORUS
I love my music
And music is music
The heavy vibration
Controls my emotion
Whenever I hear good saxophones jamming
It really gives me a happy feeling
Then when I hear the trumpets and trombone
The world to me just seem to be my own
Miss lady
When you tell me leave music
Miss lady
You making me feel so sick
I don't want dat (Ah don't want dat)
I don't like dat (Ah don't like dat)
Miss lady
This is what I'm thinking of
Miss lady
Instead of giving me love
Give me music
Plenty music
~ To chorus ~
The lady
Promise me a motor car
Miss lady
Come expect a field driver
I don't want that (Ah don't want dat)
I don't like that (Ah don't like dat)
Miss lady
You talking too much for me
Miss lady
You should listen carefully
Ah love music
Plenty music
~ To chorus ~
Heavy vibrations
Controls my emotion
((Instrumental music to fade...))
