    Not sure if this has been pointed out but the Liene has its own built in wifi hot spot. It does not rely on your home connection. Turn it on and your phone or computer can pickup the wifi signal form the printer.

    Great review, and appreciate that you've disclosed that Liene sponsored it. However it's hard to overlook any potential bias. It didn't occur to me when I initially watched your video, but it's pretty evident once I did my own research and came back to it with a different set of eyes. Liene's main downsides appear to be the app itself, MAC connectivity and the printing cost. The last one is a big decisive factor in choosing a product for most people. You also didn't show the app interface, while you did it for Kodak and HP's products.
    Despite that it's honestly the best review of either of the printers I could find online (in video or article format), even if partially biased so keep it up! You've clearly done a good job, since Liene themselves have used footage from your video on their website ;)

      Now in 2024 after doing some research I'd say that the Kodak is still honestly an awesome choice, it's 140 right now off of amazon, and the refills are about the cheapest around coming in at just 23 dollars for 80 sheets and cartridges.That being said I've heard amazing thigns about the selphy, and the refills are only 32 dollars for 108 sheets (2 cents more per photo), and while it's not much a price difference, I'd prefer to have a lower amount to purchase, so the 80 is really nice. When it comes down to it it's really just what you'd prefer.

If you don't plan on printing many photos though, I definitely would reccomend going with the Canon Selphy CP1500 since I've heard great things about it.

    Chris, Would you recommend Liene lots of computer use? And did you do any comparison on the cost per print for each?
    I am a hobby photographer, I use mostly Instax and my Nikon D3500. Of course Instax prints on its own, but I usually take the photos from my Nikon, edit them, then load them onto a USB to take to Walmart to get printed. Prints can cost anywhere from .10 - .25 cents (Canadian) each depending on how many you print at a time. (Price per print goes down a bit when you print more.) I've been looking for a home printer for a few years now but haven't been able to convince myself which one is the right one. For a "Sitting on my desk, not traveling" experience, would the Liene be worth it, in your opinion.

    • @JustAnotherChris
      @JustAnotherChris  Před 2 lety +1

      I would say it’s worth it for something you want right on the spot. However cost wise it wouldn’t be great for mass amounts of photos. I use mine to print maybe 20 to 40 photos a month maybe which costs about .20 cents.

    • @sergeigarcia186
      @sergeigarcia186 Před 2 lety +6

      I have the Liene and buying from Amazon US, photos come at about $0.5 USD per photo ($0.45 if you can find the paper on sale). If you want cheap prints, might want to get the Canon Selphy which comes out at around $0.30 per photo and last I checked, has just as high quality prints.
      Also something to consider, Liene doesn't have an android app right now (it's iOS only). This isn't a problem for my wife since she has an iPhone, but perhaps that might hamper computer use.

      Photo print cost is kind of a moot point because it’s the same cost. 40 prints for $19.99 and then there’s bundle deals for each but as for per photo cost it doesn’t really apply since these printers don’t use ink. They will all give you the same amount of prints for the same cost.

      HP's Sprocket does 80 prints for $35 USD ($0.43 per photo, or 232 photos for $100)
      Kodak's Dock Studio does 80 prints for $30 USD ($0.37 per photo, or 270 photos for $100)

    We ended up buying the Liene a while ago and are loving it! Though the Canon Selphy was 100% by far our second pick over the HP and Kodak out of reliability and print costs concerns. @@JustAnotherChris I'm not so sure about that one Chris, Amazon prices right now show a pretty noticeable print price difference between brands that really ads up if you print a lot.
      Liene does 40 prints for $20 USD ($0.5 per photo, or 200 photos for $100)
      HP does 80 prints for $35 USD ($0.43 per photo, or 232 photos for $100)

      Cannon does 108 prints for $33 USD ($0.30 per photo, or 333 photos for $100)
      As for the Selphy being expensive, I'm curious which model you found online? The Canon Selphy CP1300 (printer only) is $125 USD right now, which comes cheaper than the Liene at $149 and the costs the same as the HP Sprocket at $129. So AFAIK, it definitely fits in the same price category than these printers.

      And for the waste part I have mentioned that in many of my videos. I didn’t see the point on continuing to repeat myself.

We will see you in about 2 months when you have had time to record the video, edit it, fill in the details, print all the pics, and replicate the exact tests for clarity and accuracy.

    Dude are you using jpeg to print? You need to use TIFF format in CMYK color space to print, while also downsizing the image to the proper resolution, otherwise everything is going to be from an automatic algorithm converting it, which will only ever reduce quality and create differences that could have been avoided. Also if you've got stock in Liene, you know it's a federal crime to not divulge that right?

      Dude bro man it’s called simplifying it for the average user.

      @peoplez129 Před rokem +3

      @@JustAnotherChris I think a user would like to get the most out of their product and see its full capabilities, and converting images to the proper standards isn't difficult. Printing should never be done from JPEG. JPEG is only 8 bit RGB color space, which is meant for backlit display devices, not printing. Printing supports way more colors than 8-bit RGB. And that doesn't just translate to colors, it also translates to tones of light/dark. Like that one helmet picture you keep saying looks washed out.
      I see the Liene only supports JPG and PNG, and PNG is about as good as TIFF, so you should be converting to PNG 16-bit with CMYK color space, downsizing to 1200x1800 pixels, and sharpening the image at that resolution if needed. The reason why images are coming out at different sharpness is because of the automatic settings (or lack thereof). Anytime you resize an image, even if it was originally sharp, it still uses an algorithm to downsize, and depending on which one is used, that can introduce blurriness.
      I get it, printers have automated ease of use settings, but they're almost always poorly implemented, so judging them by that really isn't a good standard. I think even a little old granny would be willing to go through the effort of properly preparing their photo's for printing if it meant they save some money and get the best print quality possible. There are apps and online sites that can do this in an automated fashion.

    I really appreciate the content you provide, but good gosh, some your viewers are so negative and ungrateful. You spend so much time, money on products and film, etc and effort on the FREE content you provide for us, and a lot of what I’m reading in the comments are a bunch of whiny people bitchin’ about what you didn’t say, demonstrate or include in this video…? Really?!
    Your videos would be an hour long if you compared Liene to every printer on the market (which you have ALREADY DONE in other videos), but these impatient, instant gratification, “sense of entitlement” kinda keyboard warriors seem to just want to just tell you “how to do you”. I gotta say, it really just pisses me off. No one understands the amount of time it takes to put together a really well-done video, all to earn the pittance of ad & affiliate compensation that we make from them are laughable. We do this to share information we are passionate about. Do these commenters really believe that you would sacrifice your reputation to Liene, lie to and mislead your viewers all for a free $160 photo printer?!!? SMDH! 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️
    I guess because I put up with my own brand of opinionated a@shats, it annoys me when I see this kind of hard work go unappreciated, but the point of my comment was to tell you that I really APPRECIATE all of the information you do provide. You cover a ton of the major points, and if I need more than that, I can do like we used to do in the “olden days”, and go look up the answers on my own, before someone did all the work for us. 😉😂

    Why compare Liene to the crap league (i.e. kodak, hp...)? Why not compare to Canon Selphy or AgfaPhoto? You know why? Because then Liene would have no chance and nobody pays money to say their product is the second or the third best :) So folks, you now know which portable printer is the best Canon Selphy (especially the upgraded 1500 version)! In every aspect Canon wins and the price difference is totally justified.
