FX30 vs XH2s vs R7 vs GH6 (Clarifying Their Niche)

  • How to decide on the best aps-c camera in this price range for hybrid photography and video shooters? Sony FX30 is almost a mini FX3 and A7S III, matching their specs but with huge crops. Fuji XH2s might be a bit more cinematic, less crops and better color science. Panasonic GH6 better stabilization, surprisingly bigger sensor in slow motion, but terrible autofocus. Canon R7 with the worst specs of the bunch, but cheap, light with great stabilization, colours and autofocus. Here's what I would do as a youtuber, vlogger doing vlogging and vlogs, youtube studio videos, and wildlife slow motion videography.

  • @youuuuuuuuuuutube
    @youuuuuuuuuuutube Před rokem

    About stabilization, you don't get it, it has never been a mount size limitation but an image circle limitation. The sensor cannot move much because otherwise it would either go beyond the image circle or enter an area where the image looks really bad. APS-C lenses are mostly designed to project a small image circle, that's why the sensor is not allowed to move too much even though it could.

  • @AceOfSevens

    The 120 fps mode uses a 12 mp crop. No reason to think they could go faster if that were the sensor resolution.

    If the 4k 120p crop is 2.43x doesn't that bring in the 70-200 mm F2.8 lens into play as your birding lens as this also takes teleconverters, and the 135mm F1.8 becomes an interesting low light option.

    • @WEHAVETHISDREAM
      @WEHAVETHISDREAM Před rokem

      12MB aps-c sensor is shittier than a full-frame 12mb pixels sensor.
      First of all, cause in order to have clarity on such smaller lenses, you need higher resolution.
      Otherwise, you can go buy a 2010 camera. My opinion. But scientifically unproven;)
      So I guess they went with the “more resolution” path.
      Why does a m4/3rd 24-26 megapixel sensor look the same as bigger sensors, even when filming in 6k and Leica super sharp lenses?
      Cause physics is physics.
      Your thought was also mine, when I heard that it is a 26mp sensor.
      It was almost a deal breaker and disappointment.
      But, physics is physics.
      On the full frame and way bigger glass you do have more flexibility when it comes to megapixels.

    • @WEHAVETHISDREAM
      @WEHAVETHISDREAM Před rokem

      Think also that a 40mp sensor in aps-c format, like the Fujifilm, doesn’t actually mean crispier/sharper footage, when filmed in same resolution (4k). Oversampled from 6k or not.
      The smaller lenses or the glass itself can not compensate, at the moment.
      That is a full frame would be still sharper sometimes, with a mediocre glass even and 24-26mp than the 40mp aps-c.
      MY POINT: the image might have been shittier, if they would have made a 12mp aps-c sensor, to be a smaller “copy” of the FX3 / A7S III.
      AND THEN we would have hated the image quality, instead of hating the poor lowlight and rolling shutter performance.
      Either way, aps-c users will always be haters, haha.

    Hey Casey, did Sony borrow the Canon cripple hammer when they put a 26 mp sensor in the body of the FX30? Wouldn't the APS-C FF equivalent of 12 mp be 8 mp? the 2 features the FX3 has is a fan (I live in Australia, heat is a problem) & superb low light capabilities with dual native iso 12800. the FX30 native iso at 2500 is bullshit!

    Maybe you now believe that mount size has nothing to do with IBIS performance. It's very simple, sensor needs to stay inside of the image circle that the lens creates and the size of the image circle doesn't depend on the mount size. If you think about size of the holes in front of the sensor, the rear element is always smaller than the mount and aperture can be a lot smaller but those have nothing to do with IBIS performance on any system. It's the overall body size of Sony cameras that restricts the size (and strength) of the IBIS components and also limits the available space for moving the sensor.

    I might buy FX30. Only for cinematic production, not take wild life photos or vlog.
    I dont care if 4k 120fps will be cropped, because its not case here. The case is price for having limited bankroll to produce cinematic stuff with camera containing properties that might lack from other cameras in this price range. Having flip screen in field is vital, 16bit colors might be valuable (not sure is 12bit enough, as I have been checking lumix s5 for raw video).
    So at the moment I'm balancing/specsing between lumix s5 and sony fx30, to get "Run and gun" camera for small scale video/movie short production. Until i get a Sigma 150-600C or S i will prefer for sure the 70-200 for wildlife over my RF 800, 4K 60 cropped looks AMAZING!
      As long the quality is ok (and the 4k cropped image is very usable!) i dont see additional (moderate!) crop not as bad, for wildlife even good!
      What hurts the most with the R7 is the uncropped 4K60 mode since its line skipped and really looks ugly (for 4K), just 4K fine which is limited to 24 or 30 fps looks AWESOME, but for wildlife i use more or less only 4k60 cropped or 1080p120 uncropped, for slower stuff i have a 4k fine custom setting but only used it yet for comparisons between the modes, i dont see much sense in 30 fps.... 60 at least.
