Great video breakdown and very much so I agree neither are perfect follow ups for The Thing 1982. Having played both the game and looked through the comics I have to say each has it's strength. For me the video game does a great job with the paranoia and atmosphere as you don't know who to trust and like the film you have to stay inside locked with the various monsters which is great. The video game halfway through unfortunately does fall apart as it's not so much the tech but when you realize the whole scope of this that the military knows about this and is experimenting and getting infected really causes everything to fall apart for me as it the game follows not to long after the film ends so for neighboring bases to be infected ok not to far, but experiments goes way off the rails. The comics for me while good doesn't really keep the elements of fear and paranoia until they leave the Artic which is early on in them and the designs aren't great and the locations once back to civilization as it were you really lose that horror element. End of the day both are worth a look at and ultimately I leave it to the viewer which is your preferred cannon of series, the prequel, the 82 film, the is it the comics or the game.

glad you covered this because it always bothered me that everyone never talks more about them than offhand references

Awesome deep dive! I've never touched the comics but despite how over the top the Darkhorse issues look, McCready busting in like Roddy Piper in they Live is top tier hahaha
Also really good editing keep it up!!!

@@thetrashedpictureshow1814 I know but I mean as a game where you actually have to move around a base and assimilate while people have something like proximity chat so that they can't be able to hear others unless they are close so that people can't keep up with one another continuously, while having other options of assimilation, yet the things would get a private chat. I don't know it would just be cool. I know of the boardgames of it, but that works if you haves friends...

I read the comics and yeah none of them are like my preferred sequel especially the ones after the first two issues as you said went over the top I'll have to give the game a look what I've been wanting to do before I can truly give my opinion on that one but in my personal opinion I don't think this thing needs a sequel but I'm not completely against the idea if you're going to do a sequel I would say do a story where it's new people facing the thing and still leave to the first movie a mystery

I have played the game, but I always heard how John C. Told the media that for him the movie and the videogame were the only thing cannon, at some point.
What do you think of the sequel (prequel) movie? I actually like it, the effects are bad, but I like the story, and the fact that that it originally had practical effects, but then the movie executives made them change everything for CGI, will always be sad for me.

Yeah the prequel had so much potential but they covered up ADI's wonderful practical effects with sub par CGI!
      Cheers for the comment dude.

@@thetrashedpictureshow1814 That was the studio's fault. It was released in a period of time where practical effects were seen as "outdated" but CGI was still wonky to use. At least they apologized for their poor decision, at least in hindsight.

I haven't play the game but I would still prefer the comic over the game as the true sequel. Of course, not be surprise when a movie studio comes out with a live action sequel of John Carpenter classic.
