Going To COSTCO in AMERICA For The First Time Ever

- I moved to America from Europe a few months ago and one of the things I had on my list of things I want to experience was going to COSTCO. I was speechless at $1.99 pizza slices and the size of practically every product.
I hope you like it and don't forget to subscribe for more videos, thanks!

For non-Americans, Costco was originally envisioned as a store for small businesses. That's why everything is in bulk. They found later that they could offer entry to families who would also benefit from buying in bulk. While a membership costs money, it doesn't take many trips to Costco to pay for itself, especially if you buy your non-perishable items there (razors, toilet paper, shampoo...).
We don’t shop there. Never been. Don’t want to pay membership. I have one 10 minutes from me. Not for us.
Exactly. I have a BJ's membership. We save money buying toilet paper and paper towels in bulk. But also they have services like discounted gasoline for your windows, contactors for home windows, etc, discounted vacations, etc
@@jojoply If your family is huge "4 or more people" then by not shopping there you're wasting money. Buying in bulk is always cheaper, you just need the freezer/storage space. I save the amount equal to the membership price on their pre-made hotdogs and rotisserie chickens for homemade chicken salad alone each year.
I have a Sam's membership, but have a Costco nearby also, and honestly, it looks kinda better. Not saying Sam's is bad, but I like the look of the Costco food court better, seems like more variety.
@@LeroOfTheKodiakCostco>Sams
"$4.99? For a whole chicken. There's gotta be a catch"
The catch is that they know we're gonna spend $200 on other stuff anyway haha I love Costco
So true!!!
y is ur name mimikyu when u have a kuromi pfp lol
@@shilohxbeagle1467 I can't be bothered to change the name tbh
Yes! Costco considers the chicken a loss leader. The lose millions of dollars a year in chicken but they make it up in other sales.
@@JenniferSmith-pi7dn …
As an American, I agree that going to Costco is an entire adventure!
Its funny how going to Costco is such a happy experience most of the time because it is often crowded and while you can save money you also spend way more than if you went elsewhere. It used to be that no matter the price you could calculate your bill just by counting your items and multiplying it by ten dollars. Now that amount has raised. So if you buy ten items it will be about 100 bucks. 20 items two hundred bucks.
@@guidedmeditation2396 in our family the current joke is that one regular trip to Costco is usually $200 now. it used to be $100, lol
I loved it when he took that kite, off that other man's cart. I almost fell off the couch. I laughed for 5ins. Thanks Raph. Loved it!
Raphael not understating wholesale for 45 minutes straight 🤣🤣
Omg it was killing me to watch lol but he’s so innocent😂
Europeans visiting America resumed in a video 🤣🤣 I was so confused on the size of the products for 45 minutes straight until I read your comment 🤣
@@Lookforthelight01 I still don't understand it 😂
@@kdkdldld5356 it’s a bulk item store mainly for businesses or large families. Cheaper prices but larger quantities.
Those aren't common in Europe, probably why
18:22 "We've got homogenised milk - that's good that they support the LGBT community" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I've never laughed so hard 🤣🏳🌈
Cracked me up too! 😂
Stitching equipment has been added to my vernacular. Thank you. Sewing tools is so last year.

Omg RIGHT?! He was so low key when he said that😂
I had to wach it twice! 😂
Costco is not a “supermarket “ nor is it a “grocery store.” It’s a wholesale warehouse, but bc they sell a lot of food products, people over time consider it a grocery store/supermarket. Wholesale warehouses always sell in large bulk, originally so that people can use for their businesses. However, it now became an everyday common store in the states that people would buy their groceries at.
I cracked up at a lot of the things you've said. Love your sense of humor. BTW, you can buy larger packages of food and then separate them into smaller packages. Get some freezer bags, don't get the sandwich ones, get the ones that are for freezer, you can still use them for something that doesn't need to go into the freezer. Put a couple into them, well as many as you want in there for you dinner, or whatever. :)
I think some people needed to explain what a warehouse store is before sending Raph on a warehouse store adventure…
Pumpkin cheesecake? I just want one slice.
I'll sell you one slice. Here.
That's good. I want another.
(15 minutes later) I just sold you 8 slices of PC for $3 each. You paid me $24 when the whole thing was $12. Next time you see a whole PC just buy it.
Correct lol he should have known this is a place where if you have 7 mouths to feed that is when you see the savings. He would be baffled to see the mayo section lol
An intro to such a store as Costco would have limited some stupid remarks!
Can we just appreciate Raphael for his consistency 🤍🤍
As we should he's doing amazingly💗
Absolutely!! Gotta love Raphael, he's the best!😍
True
I live alone now, and I shop at Costco a couple of times a month. The vitamins, small appliances, soaps, lotions, bedding, etc. are such bargains. I love Costco.
I love to get their premade meals that you throw in the oven. And use it for lunch and dinner for the week. If you do the math it’s cheap!
Your perspective of going into a World Market would be really interesting!
As a Costco employee. I can say that the rotisserie chicken is fantastic, The cheese pizza is better than the pepperoni, and the baked goods are all (for the most part) really amazing.
Im not a Costco employee, but I agree😅
Agreed 🥰
Yessss the cheese pizza is so much better
I miss the combo pizza 🥲
Also you get a free drink with the hot dog, that’s why he had 4 at the end 😊
I grew up in a family of 9 people. Costco was our go to grocery store. If you go to Costco again, look for empty product boxes, you can use those for bagging/boxing your groceries.
i don;t use them bc then i have to get ri of the boxes when i get home. i usually just take my reusable shopping bags.
They have the boxes at checkout... if they don't box your purchases up automatically, just ask them to.
I had to laugh when he said he should have had a heart attack 5 min ago!!😂😂😂😂
Yeah but tell Rafael that at Costco they dont use any bags to put your things in
I am in awe of the variety of goods you can get! I live in Cape Town, South Africa and we don't get anywhere near this amount of stuff.
My family owned a dry cleaning business and became members of The Price Club (that later became Costco) back in 1984 because they could buy many of the supplies they needed from there. The original idea for this was for small restaurant owners to be able to get their supplies from this place, that is why the size of everything they sell ther is so big.
They also have a household store where the stuff is not commercial size which is awesome for the people that don’t have a huge family but still can find bulks of stuff
When The Price Club opened back then here in Canada you had to be a government employee to get a membership and shop there . Thankfully my Dad worked for the Post Office and got a membership but I remember being mad and offended and saying it wasnt fair that everyone couldnt shop there lol .
As a single person who has a costco membership, the only way IMO is you have to have a standalone freezer. Also a lot of the frozen food is individually wrapped and you can remove from the box to store more easily.
i do the same, i actually bought a kirkland branded chest freezer at costco years ago. best $130 i ever spent.
I was sad for him that he didn’t get the jalapeños! I yelled “No, they’re probably individually wrapped, it’s ok!” I am probably going to get them the next time I’m at Costco 😂
I am dying at all the random people standing in the background like “am I on tv?” And losing energy halfway through is so true to the experience. Disneyland’s got nothing on the endurance required to survive looking at every item at Costco. The massages should be free while someone rings up your items.
I definitely get overstimulated whenever I go to Costco and that’s because they don’t even play music in there. I couldn’t even imagine 😵💫
Yeah I definitely saw a couple of karens in the background
New follower here, I must say he is so relatable, humble, so familiar, like a cousin, he has this Latino personality but he is European 😂 Best regards from Costa Rica
I am from Mexico, we have Costco in Mexico. I don't think people in America are aware of how many options you guys have for everything. At Mexican Costco, there isn't a separate room for dairy, we don't have dark meat and white meat nuggets, we can buy the rotisserie chicken but not just the legs...
You raise a great point. Americans have access to things that are, collectively, pretty stunning. We have crap public transport and we need to fix our schools and infrastructure. But you can buy almost anything in any quality here. Americans demand more in greater quantity with more options. Our houses must be bigger and our cars must come with more features. The beef at Costco can be amazing and I've seen stunning wine deals. When I was in grad school they sold real Champagne for 20 bucks. It was the stuff served at French embassies. Same thing for real. The prime beef at Costco is also legit.
23:35 that man standing behind Raphael had me dying 😂
I know! 🤣🤣 he had no idea what to think!
SERIOUSLY. 🙄
lol idk why people stare so much XD
Was that the guys cart and Raphael picked up his kite.. LMAO
@@JoshGarciaJGG I think so! Lmao!
The guy tossing the giant box of waffles in his cart right after you were aghast about the size of the box had me laughing!😊
lol i could hear him saying "more waffles for these goddamn kids......its every week with this shit" 🤣🤣
First time watching this young man but this was one of the most entertaining things I've watched in a while, welcome to the states! 🙃
The food court in Costco is not always outside. The closest one to us is indoors, but you can enter through the exit door without a membership card to purchase food. Also, the catch to the hot dogs is the price. You get both a hot dog and a drink for $1.50 (which probably explains why you had 4 sodas, you got them included with the hot dog then chose another one.)
Raphael, you truly are our Christmas advent calander at this point and all I can say is THANK YOU 💕

I work at that Costco location. So crazy you went there. The chicken drumsticks from deli are bomb!! Also You gotta go back during spring. We sell a caramel tres leches cake. It’s good!
Costco is a warehouse store not a standard grocery. It's meant for you to buy things in bulk. Great for big families or when you're shopping for a party or some other gathering.
Or you hate going to the store so you get it all at once and are set for a bit
Have never been to America, I will love to move around with you Raphael, you are doing pretty well. Well done.
I never get tired of your love of the adventure when u go somewhere new in America - this video was sooo much fun to watch - especially your “surprised” face when you see something new
23:37 had me dying 😂. Also, Costco is a bulk store. The purpose of it is mostly for buying larger sizes for families. You probably knew that and were just being funny for the video. But you seemed genuinely shocked sometimes lol.
You know if you wanted to do a video series with re decorating Costco cakes. You could, it might be fun.
It fun to see you enjoying a totally new experiences. Thanks for bring us along.
Literally had the worst healthcare shift of my life last night and this video made me laugh so hard! Thank you. I needed that 💜
If you have a large family, it makes sense to shop Costco. If you are shopping for a party or organization, it also makes sense. Some people live in remote areas so stocking up is a necessity as you may not be able to drive to Costco frequently. Lots of people have full or half freezers to store large quantities of food. If you have a large house with a pantry room or basement, it's convenient to buy large quantities. The foodcourt setup is similar at each location. Best to go online first before shopping. I believe there is a map when you enter the store. You probably weren't paying attention. 😁
My octogenarian parents live at Costco. They have two refrigerators with freezers and a standalone freezer, plus a walk in pantry. 🤣
I’d love for you to find a European grocery store and compare to what you might actually find in Europe.
He has done that in the past. Typically European stores just have less variety of products to choose from since their physically smaller stores than their American counterparts. And foods tend to tailor to European tastes. Whereas American grocery stores are obviously adapted to American tastes.
Aldi
@@simmiedavissimmiesings8185 I was thinking more of a real European grocery, like the small locally owned kind.
Buying one of those treat towers to bring as a gift to your office is exactly what they're for. Also, USDA Choice and USDA Prime are two specific grades of meat (Prime being the best). It means the meat is good quality.
Another gr8 video and luv ur reviews on stores n products. I like Costco shopping and the membership is truly worth it. Keep the videos & reviews coming!!! Til next tyme...keep those cre8ive juices abrewing!!!

We rarely shop at Costco, but our local church hosts a shelter for working men who are poor. 30 men in our church, in cots, once or twice a year for one week. We provide all the meals. Costco is indispensable.
I just looooove your videos. You put a smile on the faces of hundreds of people. Thank you!!
I love watching you experience America for the first time it's so wholesome 🥰
Raph just FYI pumpkin pie needs to be refrigerated and you are supposed to eat it cold with whipped cream or cool whip! Also! You can buy the Costco cookie dough and make the cookies at home just ask the bakery.
You are so precious! I love your excitement and reactions! ❤❤❤
Love this video! First of his I’ve seen. Such great humor.
Costco is a bulk store for families of 4 or more technically. Or to stock up on items that you use year round like garbage bags, laundry soap, cleaning supplies, etc. I usually buy the food that my son loves to eat in his lunches and snacks daily. Baked good you could always freeze the muffins or whatever, same with fresh produce.
Need a chest freezer for all this frozen food. You will save in the long run.
To buy food for yourself, you should try Trader Joe's next time , their frozen food is great and the portions are perfect for small families or one person only
Trader Joe’s is mostly processed food and mediocre produce. Whole Foods has better quality food and they buy from local farmers. Trader Joe’s is for lazy people who don’t cook.
NOPE--------Trader JOES IS TOO EXPENSIVE!!!
I'm absolutely obsessed with your foodie related videos, keep up the great work 🤩
Watching you eat that slice of Costco pizza 🍕 gave me +3 years to my life it looked phenomenal
Love this so much!Raphael Costco shopping is another level of EVERYTHING!!! I am so happy you have a membership so hopefully we will see more of this. Much love to you and Salem!
Dearest Raphael, this was such a fun trip to take with you. You have never made a video I didn’t like, but I love the ones where you take us along to stores, restaurants and any place else you decide to go. My favorite comment was when you were ordering at the food court, and you said the rotisserie chicken asked “ am I a joke to you”? 😂 I adore your sense of humor, and I adore your videos❤️
You might enjoy going to Trader Joe’s because they have items othee supermarkets don’t have.
I love you Raphael😍
As someone who has never been to costco….I wanna see it for myself now! 😂. Great video as always, thank you for braving the store for our entertainment 💪✨
So excited to watch, I’ve been around Costco my whole life and it’s still wild to me!
The Costco raspberry crumble cookies in the bakery section are life changing 😭. They are like buttery shortbread tarts with raspberry in the middle and they are sprinkled with powdered sugar 🤤. I can't have them in the house or I'll eat them until I'm sick....I have no self control when it comes to those lmao
Not cookies, but when I was a kid, I literally ate deep fried wontons until I was sick. That weekend I lit my friend's sleeping bag on fire, and was sick in her parents' car. I've never felt so bad.

Loved the video and it brought back memories of my time in the States. I loved costco, but being a bulk supplier I used to buy a large lasagne and one other large item, total 18 dollars and that would be my dinners for the week. Great value. Keep up the superb work @raphael.
LOL I am sure Costco sells deep freezers too. You could totally freeze the fruits and veggies (or can them depending on your preferences/ storage space) and only have to shop once a month that way. Side not that cheese cake is really good and lasted almost two weeks for a family of three.
The hotdogs come with a soda. If you also ordered sodas separately that would be why you ended up with 4.
Thanks Raphael for this video 😊 I haven’t been to Costco before so was really interesting to experience it through your lens! Also loved that you tasted the remaining bakes at the end because you thought your viewers may have wanted to see it. Yes I was one of them so appreciate it ✨
Yay! Costco finally! I’ve been waiting for this video since you moved to the US.
Lol I remember when you hit 1M and got to visit USA just occasionally, now you're shopping at Costco (I still loooove your first trip to Walmart video!). you're one of the few CZcamsrs I am personally rooting for, so nice to see you grow from a cookbook writing teen making blue pizza dough on British tv to now!
This kid's funny. He got me when he said the danish cookie tin was where grandma keeps her sewing paraphernalia as Paul Teutal walked behind. There was a moment when it reminded me of a scene in Moscow on the Hudson when Robin Williams' character has conniption in the coffee aisle. He'll have a heart attack if he ever walks into a HEB. Also, you need Mexican chocolate to dip the churro in.
Bunker Hill, Houston. I think it's 140,000 sq ft. The wine section is nuts for a grocery store.
Lol it's so cute seeing someone see Costco for the first time, speechless, but not knowing it's wholesale so you get massive sizes. I agree though, the number of times I've seen things and wanted a smaller amount.... Oh btw their cakes are dang good
I absolutely loved this video including making me laugh along the way❤️ You are the best Raphael❤️

I haven't been to a Costco in literal decades (I live alone so I wouldn't be able to eat everything before it expired), but my family used to go there all the time when I was growing up. (We had two extra full-sized freezers--the size of a standard refrigerator--in the garage, for storing frozen foods. Also someone else in the comments below mentioned a vacuum sealer, which I'd forgotten that we'd also had) From what I can remember about going there, it doesn't look all that different from about the '90s or so. Also I didn't see anyone mention it, but the nuts in the white-chocolate-chip cookie were almost definitely (like, 98.9% certain) macadamia nuts. They might have been something different but I've never seen any other type of nut in a white-chocolate cookie.
Good morning Raphael yes everything in Costco is big but good deal of center things. You made my day, i was laughing alot i appreciate it. Have a great weekend

@@jandmvideos9051 Me too! It’s hard at first when you get your card, you get excited about what they have and the money you can save. Then you wind up buying shit you won’t use for 6 months or throwing half the food away 😅I now have a better system with Costco shopping lol. Toiletries from Costco only in bulk, ALL nuts on sale, lunch by the free samples, Clorox bundles, etc. If you want the foods, always best to buy a deep freezer! I have not gotten that far yet lol. Costco members gotta create a toiletry union with the company…somehow since we’re loyal,…we can get an even cheaper price 😂
You aren't going to find anything for 1 person! I used Costco when my family was young, had 2 large dogs and 4 cats. I had an extra large freezer in the basement and a huge pantry storage area. So buying large packs of meats and bakery items, to separate then freeze; large quantities of pet foods; already frozen products; etc I would save a bunch of time and money! Also I was very active in fundraising activities for the elementary school, daughters soccer club and town library; so we would have spaghetti dinners, grinder sales, etc and we would go purchase everything there!
You are defintely right on needing a map in some form...whether it be on terminals (like ordering for the food) - where you can type in and find the location
I really enjoyed this! 👍🏾
You have to buy a vacuum sealer, and store what you can't eat in the freezer. It's interesting watching you walk the store and seeing the abundance; the thing with Costco is you can't just buy one bag of chips - you have to get 2 or 3 restaurant size bags, let's be honest depending on your family, there is a lot of waste that can happen. Love Costco for everthing other than the food, personal feelings. Thanks for sharing 🥂
The reason why Costco sells so in bulk is due to business owners. Costco was originally meant for businesses to buy in bulk-- now that the general population shops there, there is a different sector of Costco, a business centre. If you want only one bag of chips, or whatever it may be, Walmart would be a better fit.
Because if people were more united it would not need to be.
We as friends and family do not have Costco but we buy in bulk and divide amongst ourselves sharing the cost.
People should start using their brains more effectively. 🙄
Costco are for large family and people who have a lot of parties
It's just about effectively planning for your own family's needs. I'm single and live with a roommate, but I still use a Costco membership for some foods (mostly the freezables), and for all of our cleaning supplies, toilet paper, etc.
@@zianeshkasparen4358 This is exactly what I was thinking! 🤟🏾
