- As we head into the 2024 season, USC has to replace their superstar QB Caleb Williams and luckily they have two good options. UNLV transfer Jayden Maiava is going to battle it out with Miller Moss who just threw touchdowns in their bowl win. Today, we will discuss the starting QB battle at USC, go through the options, who they are and who should win, enjoy!

Moss looked so comfortable in Riley's system at the Holiday Bowl. I think he could lead USC to one of the expanded playoff spots. He's the real deal.

Best case to me, Miller Moss gets the start, but Jayden Maiava gets in quite a bit, then takes over in 2025 when he starts over Julian Lewis who will take a year to learn the system.

USC offense will be BETTER this year than last. better o-line. better run blocking, so more consistent run game. better receivers by quite a bit. Taj was the only real loss from last year and this year the young receiver quartet - makai, jakobi, duce and zach branch - along with the freshman Jordan, Kyron Ware Hudson and the 2 new transfers, plus they have much more depth at tight end and the backs can catch coming out of backfield. better QB play, yes better than Caleb. MM is mentally better than Caleb, he runs through progressions and will get the ball out. but he better be good because Maeva is serious and will work his butt off to get on the field.
average 40 points per game, defense holds opponents to average 24 points per game = 11 wins. then against oregon or ohio state in conference title. USC is most underrated team right now.
Miller Moss was considered a higher rate prospect out of high school than Drake Maye (3rd pick overall in 2024 nfl draft) and Jalen Milroe (current Alabama starter). Funny thing was... Caleb Williams was also in the same recruiting class as these guys and was #1 DT QB. Moss was the #8 Pocket Passer QB in the class. I think USC is fine as Moss is the main reason a lot of QB transferred out of USC in not wanting to compete with Moss as back up to Caleb Williams. No one else think they can useat him to be the starter in this upcoming season.
Also remember that Julian Lewis, the #1 ranked player and quarterback in the 2025 class will be at USC next year, which could add even more to a quarterback battle if he’s really as good as he’s hyped up to be

good stuff Scott, I think Moss starts vs LSU and will put up respectable numbers. Hopefully 250yds w/2 TDs, 1 int. Remember, LSU defense was just as bad as ours last year. I got my fingers crossed they go 10-2 but that means they will need 2 wins out of their 4 hardest games (LSU, ND, Mich, Penn) there best chance is home wins over ND and Penn.
What competition. Go look at the stats Maiava had his last two games for 2023. There is no battle. Miller Moss will be the starter in Las Vegas

Funny how people just anoint Miller Moss as the starter with only one full game under his belt when Jayden Maiave played a full season in lead his teams to the Conference championship game. He’s bigger faster, stronger more athletic which is exactly what type of quarterback Lincoln Riley likes it mainly all white fans saying Miller will be the starter when he didn’t beat out Jackson Dart or Caleb when he got here and from the looks of the spring game Jayden out played him then. Lincoln cares about winning he won’t hesitate to start Jayden. If Miller starts big ten stud Dlinemen be running him down lighting him up and when he start throwing several picks watch how fast Lincoln Riley replace him with Jayden
I'm not convinced miller will start but you are underselling him. both of these QB could be really great in Riley's offense. they have such great receivers to throw the ball to. i think miller actually was better in the spring game, he put the ball in more tight windows downfield and that second interception was an incredible DB play by the corner and safety/nickel.
I can't take your take seriously. Yes, Maiava is a good QB, but he's not great. He doesn't look bigger, or stronger. He could be faster, but Moss has a much quicker release. A quicker release means less chances for errors. Maiava threw for a lot of interceptions last year. And most interceptions are caused by ball placement, so Maiava isn't as accurate.
The other thing that really places you out into left field is you suggesting fans liking Moss over Maiava are racists. When you pull that crap it suggests you don't care about the reality of the situation as much as you do about the color of one's skin. In the spring practice all three QBs were about the same, but they were facing Lynn and his staff compared to last year's defence coached by Grinch. So you're unable to compare apples to apples, because the scenarios were different. Riley right now gives Moss the nod because he's been in the system for 2 years. That's called the right experience, not skin color.
@@TheForgottenMan270actually Maiva was a freshman so mistakes gon happen but if we really look at miller mosses game he has terrible ball placement he anticipates to many throws a good corner gon pick him off that’s why if the bowl game he had only one good throw and that was to duce Robinson everything else the WRs made look good he couldn’t hit Zach branch to save his life tahj washington second touchdown should’ve been a drop in the bucket he made jakobi reach back for a pass and the jump ball he threw to him was behind even in the spring game miller always throws the ball short he deep passes are horrible and Jayden throws a way better deep ball and I think he is a better QB really watch millers game film the little that he has he is not ready

Nobody cares about a USC QB battle when USC hasn't been the playoffs (even with Heisman winner Caleb Williams) and isn't winning the Big 10. USC isn't beating OSU, Oregon, Washington, Michigan and Penn State. This is just filler content for Memorial Day weekend.
