Its laughable when people (not particularly him) use the term and have no understanding of how it really doesn't apply to how people experience life in the Western world. Having read some of the responses, let me opined by saying that the interviewer might just wanted to push as many questions in as possible given the short time frame of the interview! I didn’t get the feeling he was condescending but probing he was! That’s the hall mark of a great interviewer!!
Having said that, let me join you in saying that Chimamanda is a class act! She is holistically poised, highly intelligent and an exceptional writer! I have read almost all of her books, listened to most of her interviews and speeches and I just cannot get enough of her! I am Jamaican with 58% Nigerian according to my DNA profile! I live in the UK and currently work in media, I assure you the interviewer was perfectly fine. This is a television spot with time management vital during an interview. This is not a ted talk or a university speaking seminar. I respect everyone wants to hear chimamanda express herself fully, better you watch a speaking engagement or seminar she has done not a TV channel special. These are short programs that have to be managed well and controlled by the anchor. At least she wasn't interviewed by piers Morgan.

His wife is Black. He is aware and in touch. I've grown up watching him. Shut up haters. It was so good to read your reply. Hi five to you brother.👍🏿👏🏿

Agreed. Even though I can tell there is a lot he doesn't understand about racial issues (not to make it sound like I am an expert, because I'm not), I think people are being a little too hard on him. He seems like a nice guy even if he isn't savvy about certain things. He seems to be trying to understand what she's saying to the best of his ability.

All Journalists have a limited timeslot to elicit as much info as pos from the interviewee and make that info understandable to as many people as pos. His way of interviewing is distinctive. Ha ha! Check out his interview with Russell Brand on You Tube. Some have tried to use the race card here. Well, he has been married for many years to a Black woman. So he is more in touch and aware than you think.

It's interesting she said the first time she noticed race was when she came to the USA. I was raised colorblind, so growing up I don't remember a single thing with regard to race. It's only now in college, that my perceptions involving race have been enlightened (to say the least)

Spending so much time on one's hair means that this person doesn't have more important things to do with her time/money. Of course that is a man's viewpoint. Perhaps there is something more important about hair than I have ever heard articulated. I am sure there are MANY cultural things that white hillbillies (my culture) spend their time on that also seems not really worth the time. I have always had a question in my mind "what is REALLY a good use of my time?" Today I chose to hear this lady talk about "having only one story" and that was absolutely worth my time. We form our habits, then our habits form us.

mtnprivy African natural hair has been mistreated for centuries: straightened, ironed, despised, shamed. her love for her hair can be paralleled with her love of herself, of Black self-love in a world where the standard for beauty is White, straight hair, blonde and extremely thin. It's way more serious than you think...

Jon Snow should probably read her book so he can wake up and STAY WOKE because he's ignorant. I'm not sure why he would think some of his comments were appropriate but as usual, she kept herself poised and sharp. I am thankful that she continues to represent African woman of color with dignity, respect and grace. She should be an inspiration to all men and women.

Clara Mupepi Jon Snow is more aware and in touch than you think. His wife of many years is Black. A Journalist always plays devil's advocate . Limited timeslot to elicit as much info as pos and make it understandable to all types of viewers.

@@katzwhite5962 He chose to answer in that manner. I don’t excuse people because of the race of the people they marry or associate with. I have dated white men and have plenty of white friends who have sometimes said ignorant things that need educating. With that being said, I hope you’re right but that video says otherwise.

@@cmupepi Hi Clara, thanks for the reply. You have a valid point about having to educate ignorant Whites who should know better and that their interactions with Black people does not stop them messing up. I was having the same discussion earlier with a White friend, swapping stories and she pointed out that she knows White people who claim to be non racist but in reality act otherwise. I still don't think Jon Snow meant anything negative but.....
Anyway, thanks for the feedback. It is good to talk about things. Stay safe out there.👍🏿
