    Enjoy your videos and commentary.....for sure!
    I'm 75 and started scrambling a couple of years ago. Because I knew I might not be able to do the whole ridge, I scouted The ridge down in the middle near Lenawee and hiked it to make sure I could get down that way if I needed to. As it turned out that's exactly what me and my friend did. It still took us 8 hours to do it that way. I did the second half by myself from Montezuma bowl to the same half way point . That route was not nearly as difficult as the first one. But fun!
    It sure seemed like the first half of the route over Black Mountain looked a lot scarier on your video then I remember it. laughing out loud. I do remember a small but easy knife edge. Looking forward to doing it again this summer.

    it is extremely worth it to take the shortcut to the right at the first cairn you encounter. Will take you right over to the saddle with Cupid

    Awesome. I've always wanted to try that. But, now I probably won't LOL. A little sketchy for my risk tolerance. 😭

    I tried the reverse a couple of years ago. I got stuck in the same towers but the trail is harder to see from that direction (at least I could not see it) I dropped towards 6 in one of those couloirs. Pretty technical down scrambling. Recommend boots in case one needs to drop. My shoes were trashed by the time I got to the car.

  • @SoloTravelerOffTheBeatenPath

    Have you ever hiked to Chihuahua Lake? It’s a really cool looking alpine lake right on the other side of the mountain from A-Basin. It has always intrigued me.
    Edit: lol it’s actually shown in your video a couple times

    I gave this a try today, my plan was to just traverse to that most prominent peak between Grizzly and Lenawee(anyone know what this is called?), then return back to Loveland pass the way I came.
    There was snow and no tracks so the route finding on my ascent was…troublesome. I got cliffed out pretty bad on the second to last tower, I should have stayed low to the left. I was able to down climb it but I don’t feel good about the risk I took, should have just backtracked. Ascending the middle peak was sketchy as well with the snow, had to make some gnarly reaches and get my hands a bit cold. Coming back I avoided my previous blunders and felt much better. I had a blast, but would avoid climbing this in the snow if you aren’t comfortable with route finding in fairly exposed class 3/4 terrain. Thanks for the vid, was pretty helpful, dope channel all around.
    Edit: I’ve seen a few reports that the middle peak is called black mountain? Would follow as I think that’s the name of the restaurant at A Basin. Will ask some of the old heads come ski season

    Was out in CO a month ago for a race and the day before went across Loveland Pass. Definitely was scoping this route out as I've been from the pass to just before Grizzly D. Thanks for a great beta video and any thoughts of doing the route from Lanawee trailhead, so going in the opposite direction? Either ending up at LP or you can make a loop if you go back down the saddle between Grizzly and Torrey's.

    • @TheVirtualSherpa
      @TheVirtualSherpa  Před rokem +1

      Starting at Lanawee would make this a pretty epic day but I suppose if could go. Don't think the traverse matters which way it goes - both would be very similar in terms of difficulty (if ending at LP).

      The list continues to grow but the last few weeks (including the next few days and upcoming weeks) I’ve done / have a lot planned. The list, in Colorado and beyond, isn’t something I work by priority - rather what opportunities I’m handed.
