Fascinating video as usual 👍. Probably on my "wait for a bargain on Kijiji" list. I can see it feeding an audio recorder to generate source material for custom wave tables - predictable enough to have an aim for the ball park but random enough for the happy accidents when it gets there.
Im so used to seeing synths crowded with so many knobs mini desk synths and modular stuff I was a bit shocked to see how LARGE the Taiga was. Great demos and review.
@@teftymusictech yea that thing is crazy!! I'm still on the early part of my semi modular exploration with the Matriarch so I'm keeping my blinders on to avoid GASing for anything else.
I might not buy a labyrinth but I'm very inspired by the sounds I'm hearing from it. Wondering if I could replicate some of the weird sequencing tricks to with with multiple tracks of 8 steps on the Syntakt. I already have that chunky boy, and I'm wondering if i could get some moog labyrinth sounding polyrhythms if I just get creative with the lfos...
You could definitely get some similar results. The Labyrinth's strength is that it'll go into completely unpredictable land. That might not be what you want, though.
If I want to use this for sound design, create sound beds, and to create deep and different Bass sounds (tuning it) without using the sequencer - is this possible or should I look at another Moog product?
Hmm gonna be limited in sound design. The biggest issue would be the envelope being just 'decay' ... It works really well as a sound processor like I did in this video czcams.com/video/AfUmGWdWuJI/video.html But overall, you'd be better off with a more dedicated synth. Maybe the Mavis? I have no experience with it but it seems to be the price comparable alternative from Moog.
Thank you! In regards to plugins, the appeal of the Labyrinth is the hands on tweaking, plus patch points for Modular. I also prefer distortion in the analog domain, but that's up for debate in the 'sound quality' department.
Moog went Behringer in terms of manufacturing and build quality. I really cant stand those tiny knobs they also used on the dfam and other synths. Those are fine for like attenuators and stuff. But not for important functions. Its not about the size, they get wobbly REALLY fast.
Clearly you missed the point and as a a side note it's Columbo not Colombo. Remember, there are other people in this world with different opinions, just saying 😊
Why none of the synthfluencers do not mention anything about how cheap the materials used are? This is made in Taiwan and it's not the same as made in the US premium feel. No printed manual and midi to 3.5mm jack in the box Cheaply printed stickers and poster. Cheap quality cables with no branding The LED coverings on the Labyrinth is of very low quality compared to that say of the Mother 32 The sequencer buttons like bit flip etc is a big joke. It feels harsh. The box itself sounds great. Its made to be used with other modules or the Sound Studio 3. Only the sound is moog. Rest everything is inmusic cheap shit. The price though is the same as the Moog as a premium brand.
as a subharmonicon owner who loves the thing, I can't wait to get one of these. This is Moog's first foray into west coast synthesis, has a nice metallic tone that sub and DFAM can't touch, plus the generative sequencer on this one is rather unique. I'd place the Labrynth closer to DFAM than the Sub, but somewhere in between (and beyond).
If I was actually paid, endorsed, or sponsored then I would mark it appropriately. I was neither paid, nor endorsed, nor sponsored. I was sent the Labyrinth to make an honest review, which I did. If you watched the video you should walk away with a decent understanding of what you can and cannot do with the box. If you're thinking getting the Labyrinth is being 'paid' then consider this: It took me upwards of 60 hours to make this video. If I were to sell the Labyrinth, I'd get 'less than 600' since it's used. Do you think I'd accept 'less than a dollar' an hour to make a video? If a company is going to pay me to make a video, they're going to pay my hourly rate and I'll mark it as such.
@@teftymusictech I really appreciate all the hard work and effort, and you taking the time to explain, imo this is still being sponsored, but anyway happy for you that you are getting free 👏🏽
In eurorack though? The sequencer alone would probably be 400 from some other boutique companies. It's got a lot of 'synth' in it for the modular format. I'd say if you're comparing traditional digital synths, then yeah it's a weak investment. But I also think this is not targeted to that market.
Always enjoy the “overpriced” goofs who pop out of the woodwork on every product. Break down each component and price it out in Eurorack and let us know how underpriced it is lol. Two VCO’s, envelope gen, VCF, all patchable interface, clocked bit sequencer, separate utilities to tweak sequencing and modulation oh and a powered case. Go.

Great overview! Enjoyed the sounds and insights. Keep up the great work!
Thank you!
Great honest and informative review! Thanks 👍

I like this idea!
Moog Mavis has a wavefolder it’s amazing
ahhh right, I forgot about this. I keep meaning to pick one up.
It’s quite interesting. Looks like a toy but the sound is massive

Interesting stuff. I'll definitely keep my eye on it!
In re: the Moog branded cables, I'd say it isn't a dealbreaker, but it is disappointing. YMMV.
Thanks for watching 🙏
Man oh man did that sound amazing with the Taiga!
Yeah the Taiga is fantastic. Doing a review of it soon. But I also have GAS for the new Voltage Lab 2 👀

Labyrinth and Spectravox are solid eurorack modules, which I would enjoy playing one day.
Congratiolations, Puma !
Loving this vibe! 🔥

Possibly the best Labyrinth we've seen so far
i only seen this one,-
Can it make gnarly wave folded leads and bass that can be played melodically with midi keyboard?

thinking this will gel well with the subharmonicon
Let me know how it works if you scoop one!
I'd say it'll pair with dfam particularly well, more of a percussion instrument
Good review, but how many $50 VSTs do this same thing? I think Moog is late to the party on this one...

I mean, Moog is one of the only companies aside from eurorack proper who make this kind of thing, so definitely not late.
"Hardware over software" - Kool Keith
To be fair, that argument is true of almost absolutely everything hardware. It doesn't really hold water for most people interested in physical gear.
And rockets on the battlegield.
I think the Mavis has wavefolding too.
Good catch! I haven’t tried the Mavis yet.
How do u connect labyrinth to the mpc ?
I actually showed that in this video: czcams.com/video/AfUmGWdWuJI/video.html
should I get the Labyrinth or rather Subharmonicon? hard choices!
if thats your honest thought - get a banjol !
I'm lost.
lol I could see that happening in this video.

its bound to happen with any "Non through hole" Synth´s ,-
So what`s the difference to any other synth soundwise!?
thats the funny thing about synthezisers - you can make them sound - different , Colombo !

Its an underwhelming product for $600 tbh.
