    I ordered this to net the algae in a large pond in our backyard. czcams.com/users/postUgkxphFK7ETiDP5G4IGsNcg7vbASDp_YfDpI The net is very sturdy and easy to maneuver in the water. The angled edges make it easier to get into the smaller spaces among the rocks. I didn't realize that the front of the net doesn't actually have a frame to it, just the sides do, but it seems to work just fine. The handle extends to various sizes, which is a great feature when I'm in areas that are tight with shrubs at the edges of the pond. I can collapse the handle so it doesn't get stuck in the bushes.

    I'm also a big believer of using mono in beach fishing, here in Puerto Rico coastal fishing is plagued by toothy hard hitting predatory fish and mostly rocky bottoms, a mono main with a fluoro or bigger size mono leader is my go to proven method, ty very much for the upload Roger, wishing you the best on your new project.

      That's why I'm here. I don't know which brand of mono I have on my Penn Fierce but I'd say it's a 20 or 30lbs test. I bought a KastKing Sharkie BaitFeeder III 4,000 paired with a Shakespeare Big Water and tried 20lbs Trilene cheapo braid from Walmart and I actually really like it! I did notice the abrasive resistance is pretty bad because at the end of my fishing, I always cut the rig off and then reel the line in so I can use the line holder knob thingy on the reel to hold the line so I don't have to worry about loose line or using the rod loop for holding hooks etc. Just pushing the line into that little knob on the reel really split the string. So I'm just being mindful of that but I absolutely love how much thinner that braid is compared to mono! I've only had it on for a couple days and I could definitely feel Mackerel twitching my Sabiki Rig. I just got back and only caught one but I spent the whole time comparing that setup to my Penn setup and now I want to put braid on my Penn because it is a slightly bigger pole and since I can't remember what I spooled it with, I'd like to know for sure what's on it. I do respect the OP's comments though and Mono is and has always been fine in my experience. I'm just new to saltwater fishing so it's definitely new to me with how everyone rigs their poles up.

    Tried braid and went right back to mono. Hard to get the line tight without moving the sinker, kept on cutting my finger while casting and the wind knots and just how easy it is to get knots in general with braid turned me right off. Cannot beat mono line with a fluro for leader. I notice no real difference in sensing bites and long as you get mono tightish it's just the same as braid.

    Braid is a whole lot of messing about. I'm thinking I just getting some high quality 20lb mono. My Braid seems to be separating in spots and breaking when tying knots. Even with discarding the first 5 metres or so every time. It's so fine you can't feel if it's damaged. I've heard that sand grains abrade it. I'd be upset to lose a good Snapper or Jew because of it.

      Dude crazy you say this…. Past year I’ve not had a problem with my braid breaking but literally the past few days it’s just been giving out where I usually tie my knots…. Maybe it needs to be replaced but I can buy about 6 times the amount of necessary mono line for the price of one spool worth of braid
      Casting lower test mono between 8-14 seemed to go just as far as my 10 pound braid…, maybe even further because of how I can load it up… sometimes I think a few of the points CZcams folks make is too by the book….

    • @JSJ-mn8wg
      @JSJ-mn8wg Před 3 lety

      Rod length wise think it depends on how much distance you need, in Sout Africa we use 4.2m rods to make 120m casts. You can create flouro leaders for your main line but just make sure it enters and exits the top guide easily. Generally i use about a meter of leader but depends on conditions and where your fishing

  • @JSJ-mn8wg

    Why not just use braid with a mono leader for beach fishing? Greater casting distance, lighter tackle, abrasion resistance for rocks, greater line capacity and smaller diameter line creating less drag in the water and more sensitive at detecting bites

    • @RogerOsborneFishing
      @RogerOsborneFishing  Před 3 lety +2

      JSJ, You could. My thinking is that it would be best to use a long leader of say 8m (depending on the length of your rod) so that when you are casting your finger is on the leader and not braid. Braid can badly slice your finger when putting power into a cast.
