    Have you been skimboarding and just can't figure out how to side slip? well in this video I go over some of the more basic skills you will need to be exceptionally good at in order to side slip well. Side slips are a more advanced skill used to reach waves breaking a bit farther off shore and take a lot of technique to pull off properly. With plenty of practice and these 3 skills, you too can side slip like a pro.

    Love how meticulous your explanations are man, really super helpful here. I went skimming boynton beach today and it was a blast. No waves yet as i am getting the hang of hopping on the board at the right time over the wash so in due time with some more practice i expect to be able to reach some waves not bad for my 3rd time skimming. Keep these coming please! Thank you 🤙🏻

    Great video. I can tell that my speed and water drop are insane but I always suck at my control. Like when there are some small follow up waves, they fuck me up and i fall...

    Can you do a full video on frontside wraps? They're so elusive to me. Is it more like a frontside cutback on a surfboard or a frontside power slide on a skateboard?
    Thanks brother. Youre awesome

    • @BeachLookingGuy
      @BeachLookingGuy  Před 4 lety

      to be honest im not a front side skim boarder AT ALL. i can tell you from trying, that its very much just getting in the right spot at the right time and using your rails with a lot of balance and control to bring the board around.

    I live in Florida and deciding whether to get a Hybrid, Pro-Shape, or Swallowtail (Retrofish) by exile in carbon. Which one do you recommend? The beach I go to has waves from 1-2 feet but good times can vary up to 6 feet. Right now it’s like 4-5 feet. I have everything about the board but the shape chosen, can you help? I’m a heavier guy because I play football I’m about 6,0 tall and 190 pounds, but I’m fast. I heard the retro fish gets the most maneuverability but less float and more drag, but the hybrid is beat overall while the pro is just the best speed and handling. Should I also get my rail 3/4 tapered to 5/8?

    • @BeachLookingGuy
      @BeachLookingGuy  Před 4 lety

      Mario Le’Rayous i prefer hybrid 5/8

      Thanks for replying first of all, but would swallowtail (retrofish) be bad for Florida?

    • @mariolerayous6938
      @mariolerayous6938 Před 4 lety

      @Beach Looking Guy
      I need more float as a heavier guy but my maneuvering isn’t that good so Exile said the retrofish gives good float and good maneuverability as well

    I have been skim for a year and now I do side slip. The only problem is that once I have done 10 meters in side slip I sink in the water. However, I have a good exile hybrid shape skimboard and quite large. I train with my side underpants on a beach where there are no waves and no shorbreak and the water does not move. I think it's because there is no shorebreak that I can't go any further. Don't you do long distance like me when there is no shorebreak or is it because I am not doing the right technique?
    thanks. The beach where I make it is really flat and I hope you think that's it

    • @BeachLookingGuy
      @BeachLookingGuy  Před 3 lety

      LouisHovha thanks for reaching out! There’s a lot of factors when it comes to skimming. At the end of the day there is only so much videos and tips can teach you. Studying better riders, having a good beach, having good skimboarders to skim with, having the drive to get better and learn from mistakes and getting as many reps as possible will be a big part in getting better. Best i can tell you is a long slide requires you to run as fast as possible, drop the board and get on without any hesitation and losing momentum. 1 year of skimming isn’t much so keep working hard and eventually you should figure out what works for you, as every rider Is a little different

    Do I need grips on my skim board in order to stay balanced

    • @BeachLookingGuy
      @BeachLookingGuy  Před 4 lety +1

      grips in order to stay balanced? no.. grips are for traction in order to keep your feet firmly placed on the board. kind of like grip tape on a skate board. staying balanced just takes practice and learning how to react to the motion of a skim board

    Hi, nice video. I’m 1.83, or 6.0 feet, I weigh 75kg, 165lbs. Just bought a skimboard for $320. It’s 124cm, 48.8 inches, and goes only just a bit over my belly button.
    I tried skimming with it, but I couldn’t reach out far. I’m just starting out, but I’m worried. Will I ever be able to progress with this board, or is it a sucide mission? Is it too small? My goal is to ride exactly, exactly like you are doing when riding the small waves - so your feedback would mean the world to me!! I live in Sweden and the waves only get about as high as your small ones in the in the video.
    I’m thinking of turning it back to the store. Because $320 is a lot of money for something that won’t do the job.

      I’m about 5’11 and 190 and you need at least a 52 inch board. You should read up on what rail, rocker, finish, and board shape and material based on where you live. I recommend you get an Exile Carbon Board which you can fully customize or just buy one already made. I recommend a texture finish as well. I will send you two links on how to make the decision. The board starts at 489 or 519 depending on where you buy it and will give you the most float. It’s what Blair Conklin and Austin’s Keen and most other pros use. Get the Convex deck too.
