Another great video. Thanks, Jim. Too bad you did your trip before the 4th bore of the Caldecott Tunnel opened.
***** Thank you, I'll be back in the area in June, hopefully I can get the new tunnel then.
I watched one after another, all your serie "San Francisco Bay Area" on TV: Great moment. Very interesting, mainly your vintage maps. A feeling of traveling in my living room!
Excellent looking video. The whole Bay Area looked great. And the Crows helped a lot.
Thanx for posting this.
Great video, as always, Jim! Can't wait to go and drive out there for myself!
Hey Jim, what happened to the video you posted last Friday, which was basically going eastbound from Oakland to Walnut Creek? I know I'm not crazy and I remember watching it on Friday.
Thanks...I skipped over the toll booths last year because that was the Northeast where people are uptight and suspicious of everything so I took the camera down at those points and this is California where people aren't uptight...I had no problems here.
LOL, thanks Tracy! I made my way down the coast, did a few in LA, went down to SD for five videos (which I think you'll like) and then back to LA before leaving for Vegas and eventually Atlanta.
Awesome Views
Thank you and yes I have 5 San Diego videos coming up and maybe 10-12 from the Los Angeles area as well as a couple from the coastal areas between the Bay Area and LA.
Excellent coverage of the California area so far. California highways seem to have that mix of old school flavor (like the signage) and modern engineering (double deck interchanges, the MacArthur Maze, and bridges). That state's highway style is quite fascinating.
Man Jim, you're totally right about this being a totally different drive. I can see you were really feeling being here at this point of the trip. Good job technically with the synching. Bad CalTrans sign placement at 3:42 and someone let them know it!
Keep the good work Jim. This is helping a lot....
If you'd had come out of the Caldecott Tunnel around sunset without the clouds and fog, you would have had a hell of a view of the Bay.
Ok Jim, thanks. For some reason, it disappeared when logged on through my Roku box. Might be a glitch on my end.
when you talking about BART I always remembered about telling people that
could you imagine if a city like Fremont or any other city that started with the letter F had a train system and named it the same thing--------instead of BART it would be Fremont Area Rapid Transit, or FART, yeah like I would tell people I ride the FART train wherever I go.......LOL
nice views thanks again jim
Thanks for watching, much appreciated!
Thank you much!
Thanks for the visual, will have to save that one for next time :)
Thanks, yeah the roads are such out there that both directions are worth seeing.
I hugged the coast on US-101 just fine between Santa Barbara and Ventura thank you, that video turned out great.
Neat! Are you going over the new Bay Bridge?
That freeway sign shown at 4:04 was definitely from the 1960's, early to mid 60's at that. It had rough patches to say the least as it clearly shows that there were formerly signed routes that ran through here. The sign on the left not only had the I-80 shield moved, but also the US-40 and US-50 routes removed. The one on the right retains the old I-80 shield, but had the not only the US-40 shield removed, but had the North CA-17 shield removed and covered with the I-580 shield when they changed CA-17
from here to San Jose as I-880, and simply dropped CA-17 north of here. I miss those old button-copy signage.
Hey Jim... where are you going man? LOL!! You know I always love your videos. I smile every time I watch as I allow myself to be riding with you. I get a little dizzy cause you go so fast! :) JK... I know you're not driving that fast but, just sayin... I get addicted to watching. Thank you for sharing your journeys with us! PS... Maybe we passed each other while you were in San Diego! :)
Great vid! My 2 fav highlights of this vid is going through the tunnel at the beginning of it, and the view of Mt. Tamalpais as you went west over the Richmond-San Rafael bridge. Quick question, on your California trip, did you get as far south as San Diego? Or was your trip more to see the greater SF and LA areas, and I'd presume the coastal Pacific area inbetween both cities?
Is the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge a Double Decker Bridge? I LOVE the video and the music. Thanks Freewayjim!
Cool, how exactly is this helping if you don't mind my asking? I'm curious.
Awesome views!
I can’t wait for the 4th bore of the Caldecott Tunnel opened
It's been open for 10 years now.
Finally got to see this and it was worth the wait - nice drive!
Thanks, glad you are enjoying it!
Thanks, you won't be disappointed.
I took CA-1 to US-101 in San Luis Obispo to CA-126 to I-5 north of LA, which means there is a Big Sur CA-1 video on the horizon :)
Nice Video!
Thank you
I don't know but I felt fortunate for the short time I was there.
No, they are from old gas station maps that I have collected.
Great video and that title was pretty cool
so much to look at in this one ( all of them actually lol) - great ride
Thanks John, glad you liked it!
Thank you!
Nice road trip to San Francisco! Long time for driving?
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks!
I think it's because he doesn't want them to question him about the camera so he covered it up approaching the toll in previous editions.
There are some highways that technically prohibit the recording of video without their permission. New Jersey Turnpike is an example of that... but the only way you'd know that is if you stop at a toll booth and read their "terms and conditions".
New York City 🌃
Thanks, yes it is a very interesting area to say the least.
Because I was going to Pasadena and wanted to see/film the I-5/CA-14 Interchange and I-210
Why did you take 126 instead of hugging the coast on CA-1 between Oxnard and Santa Monica?
Did you take I-5 or 101 down to Los Angeles. It's crazy how far apart those two metro areas are from each other
It's still there (13-20), just look under recent videos. I always have the newest release as the main feature video.
Thanks!
The other section I know about that is like that is the one between I-77/ I-81 In Virginia.
Thank you! yes in short it was to prevent a potential hassle.
The old maps are Gas station maps that I have collected, I just scan the part I need. Did you not notice the Gulf cover on this one?
And Happy Labor Day!!!!
Thanks...no I shot this back in June and I live in Atlanta so it would be pretty hard to go over the new bridge....not that I wouldn't want to :)
Freewayjimm yes, it's true thank you very much
What mountain is that at 7:41? i really haven't personally been to San Francisco ever in my life
That's Mt. Tamalpais in Marin County
Freewayjim Wow much better view than 6:33
at 7:52 I really, REALLY hate it when people do that!
Yes! Can you do a whole drive of Port Chicago Highway? (except the private property part, and show the shortcut or detour) Use freeways! Get it? Because your username has “Freeway”!
I live in Atlanta so probably not.
Do a drive to Birmingham by I-20
I have filmed Birmingham but I have no interest in filing the whole drive from Atlanta to Birmingham, it's not that interesting. I only do long drives if it is something special, like I-70 in the Rockies.
Did you go on that highest flyover on the maze? I thought you did in another video but wasnt sure.
I probably did as I passed through the Maze many times.
man can you give me the name of the songs?
They are posted along the way in the video AND listed in the closing credits.
Mr Jones was written about Adam Duritz' desire to date a better class of women. It worked, because he dated Courteney Cox!
He might have also dated Meredith Salenger or one of the Crows did since she appeared in two of their videos including "Mrs. Potter's Lullaby" (which I sometimes in her honor refer to as "Mrs. Oswalt's Lullaby")
Thank you!
Thanks!
