This is such an important message. So many people think they're doing good when they take animals in, but they don't really see the big picture.
Exactly!!
Their hearts are in the right place but their doing it wrong.
@@ambervantassel3816 im not just going to let a baby animal die...
@@wolfpaw2715 I agree these people act like they know everything. I left a long message about this. I seen the magic that can happen between man and animal. Most of these people in these comments are the very same people that have no compassion for other human beings and never help a stranger in need.
White people lives to think they're the heroes is this world when they've done the most damage
I can not tell you how many fawns and deer your video just saved this season! Thank you! Thank you! THANK YOU! I worked at a vet office in high school and we had 2 certified wildlife rehabilitators, one was a vet tech, the other a vet. Every year people would bring in "orphaned fawns" to them. One year between the 2 of them they rehabbed 7 fawns, and only 2 actually needed help. Fawns that are left alone are often only a few days old and survival rates decrease the younger the fawn is because they may still be getting antibodies from their mothers milk and without that they have no immune system to keep them healthy. The best place for young wildlife is with their mothers in the wild, the only time we should step in is when that truly is not possible because the mother is dead or the young animal is clearly injured or sick. Please always call your local wildlife office and rehabilitation center FIRST, for any concern with wildlife. They can help and will know exactly what is best for that animal and the environment.
Wow you wrote an essay
I was just gonna say that lol
I mean I get why they do it their only trying to help, their hearts are in the right place but their doing it wrong.
If only two needed it out of seven then it wasn't rehabilitation. It called raising.

I hope everyone going to a place with deer that is coming from a place without deer sees this. Thank you for putting it out there. Especially if they are coming to my area of Texas. Over a decade ago I was driving home from work and saw this lady chasing a fawn around on the side of the road near some undeveloped land which was a mix of trees and tall grass. I pulled over to ask her what she was doing and she said she had pulled over because she had seen the fawn lift its head and didn't see the mom so she was sure it was abandoned. I took that moment to educate her to just leave the fawn alone and the mom would return for it. I live in a college town with a lot of wild spaces and a lot of deer. She was here to visit her child who was going to college here. It took a lot of talking to convince her it was okay but she eventually got in her car and left. I hope she didn't return later... I am sure the fawn was fine. It looked perfectly healthy. - Heidi
On a side note, isn't it stunning how people can be so sure of themselves without having any basis for their ideas? I see it all the time. It's a marvel we've survived as a species.
You were right in that situation because if you have to chase a fawn that means it has a mother most likely but on the other hand if follows you and won't stop. There is a good chance it doesn't have a mother. It needs help and they will ask for it. The people that do nothings always have all the answers it's amazing.
Very good advice and much more thorough than the sort of thing that wafts around social media! Nicely done!
*The best people in the world tend to be those who are kind toward animals*
The best kindness is the sort that has science with it. Knowing when to NOT interfere is hard, Sometimes doing the right thing is hard.
@@wombat.6652 Instead of science, I'd use logic because while science cannot necessarily be applied to every situation for reasons that could include practicality, lack of funding, ethical concerns, etc, there's no reason that logic cannot be applied.
@@LouisGedo Logic=Reason=Science. Though im agree practicality was a good response.
I have been living with some guilt for about 20 years now. I live in an old house that was built in 1930. There are mice living here too. 20 years ago I set a "live" trap in my cellar and because there was so much drama going on within the home I forgot that there was a trap. I finally remembered about a week later and the little mouse had died. I have felt bad about that dumb mistake since. It's so unlike me to hurt another animal. I used to hunt deer and once back from Vietnam I shot a beautiful buck and felt crummy after doing so. In Vietnam I shot enemy soldiers and had no feelings at all. I wish that there was a way to find some way to chase the guilt of that little mouse away. He must have suffered awful.

Probably most of us have inadvertently done things that ended up causing a lot of suffering for innocent animals.
Of course, evenvworse, most humans have also intentionally CHOSEN to be complicit in the intentional exploitation and unjustified killing of innocent animals simply for a gustatory indulgence.
That's because in spite of the fact that so many humans eat meat, *there's no biological requirement in the human body for animal flesh since there's NO essential nutrient for humans that can ONLY be obtained by consuming the flesh of animals.*
Very good and I liked the fact you emphasized nature taking its course. I know the channel is about rescues but I'd like to see Taylor do videos educating us about native Montana wildlife, that exist close to your centre, but aren't in the center.
I had one in my yard ( northern Wisconsin ) I thought she was abandoned..... She was so cute !!!! You're right eventually she was gone...... Took many hours.... I felt so sorry 4 her,,, looked lonely....... Today, in the Hwy,,,, had to stop,,,, in my lane,,,, a mother was nursing her baby,,, eventually.... I beeped,,, or they would of been killed... 😢 They're so adorable !!!
The hardest thing to do as a human, is just to let nature naturally take its course. We're so full of empathy for other things, even inanimate objects. Hard to see something "in trouble" and do nothing. Thanks for educating us!
brainwashing you, sad what humanity has become¨
I completely agree.....it's hard to see an animal in trouble and not want to help. Nature might take its course but, I don't want it to happen in front of me.
I was just reflecting on this yesterday! I startled him at my back door and he took off before I knew he was there.... I had to leave him alone just hoping his mom could find him when she got back
THANK YOU for explaining the bigger picture and the ecological impact of the death of an animal. Really, it was beautiful. It really helps.
Taylor, you are a treasure. This is fantastic advice. Deer constantly overpopulate my area to the point that even hunters can't do enough, and the forest service regularly must cull the population.

Me: *"Make it my baby, duh."*
Oh my god NO
Can I help...???🙂
* Step 2...finds self sitting at game and fish to spend a boat load of money for licensing. See's actual fee has heart failure at price... * Step three fawn makes cute noise...swoons at the cute and hands over pocket book to the clerk wincing.* "...Be gentle please..."
Assuming that I make it to the home inspection..." And these are the 12 types or organic grasses...can't have the little guy get board of his/her food..." *receives therapy bills from the inspector in the mail.*
After further review I have come to the conclusion that I am never allowed to move from the city lest I windup adopting the country side
@Jenna DuCray you NAILED it. Welcome to my life!
I came here because there is a baby in my yard. So cute! He is safe. Glad to know mom is coming back. Thanks for this video 🥰
Well my thing is that we rescued a baby deer after her mother was run over . But we still
Kept the deer and it’s perfectly fine
Everyone on a highway was slowing down for some odd looking garbage on the road last summer. Then it stood up! I was an adorable baby deer "hiding" in the middle of the pavement. A nervous mom was near the road. Luckily the fawn got up and left the road... I'm hoping they went far away! This was the smallest fawn I've ever seen. Like as if mom gave birth on the highway. So adorable! And scary.
I live in a small town in rural western Montana. We let our grass grow long (because I hate yard work, and because we can). Deer frequently leave their fawns in our front yard, including just a few feet from our front door, and I've gotten many pictures of them. I've gotten fairly close for pictures, but I've resisted taking a 'selfie' with them (as I didn't want to risk startling them), and definitely have never touched or moved them.
How cute. The mothers must know that your yard is a safe place for their babies, so they choose to return again after having new babies.
(husband commenting) a few weeks ago my wife and i came across a fawn wandering near a busy road, and me as a firefighter had to take action, and move the fawn out of the road by picking it up and putting it back into the woods
I was walking through the woods once and when I approached a patch of tall grass, a doe bolted out, leaving a baby behind. The little dum-dum immediately tried to follow its mom, crying all the while. I remember thinking "yep, if I was a predator, you'd be dead right now."
Glad you weren't :/
Technically... you are a predator.
@@cgaccount3669 Or a vegan :)
Did u just call that baby deer a 'dum dum'? UNREAL!

This is more than just what the title suggests. Thank you.
Very good! Hope this comes up in search results when people need to know this!
A very important message very well delivered. Thank you, Taylor.
Thank you for the baby fawn information. I was worried and now I feel better because she is doing exactly what she should be doing waiting for mom to come back!
I love this video. Very informative. Thank you for always sharing the knowledge ❤️
This was so informative and straightforward! I appreciate so much that you always make it clear that wild animals are not pets or toys, and have to be treated with distance and respect. And even when you do take in wild animals you specify that those are special cases, and they each have specific needs and boundaries. Thank you so much for teaching humans how to interact safely and responsibly with other animals.
Thank you, Taylor. I like seeing you in these videos.
I just want to say I really love your channel ❤️ It's very educational and I really love the people that work on this channel they are true heroes in the eyes of nature and the animals that they help really look up to them I wish I could work an environment like that I have no idea how I could get into a situation like that where I could work with animals in that type of way. 😓
Wonderful video with the best advice ever! Thank you so much!
I was so confused for a second I thought it said what to do if you are a baby deer hehe
Step 1: Be adorable
This was really well done, nice!
Thank you, great advice
Just found one! As otherworldly and adorable , it’s hard to resist, but I will!
Great information;)
Very well made video. Thank you
Just like bunnies! Great info. 🥰
I used to live next to campus on the foothills of the Wasatch front I left the deer alone they already know how to forage and if you payed attention for enough weeks you realize they aren’t alone, mom is usually around
This is so cute! the wildest thing i found in the garden was the neighbours cat. You should have had deer pics on your T-Shirt :)
This also explained a lot thank you
Very well explained madam.
Very interresting! Thank you!
I'm glad I watched this before doing anything (aka nothing) thanks for the information!
Very Informative!!
Very good advice. I don't have any baby deer or deer right where I live but there are deer in the Hollywood Hills, and which is not to far from me and I hear they have deer there.
Thank you for being so thorough, I hope millions of ppl watch this and learn to be more mindful! Nature definitely takes care of herself.. we simple need to step aside and leave it to the professionals if a rescue is eminent! Very helpful thank you!
AnimalWonders Montana: what to do if you find a baby deer
Me: *breakfast ?*
Well so far everything she said is opposite of what happened to my friend. A baby deer walked right up to him and his dogs and started to try and nurse. The dogs embraced the deer and nurtured it as if the deer was family. My friend is taking care of the deer now. Just wondering about the best food to feed it.
Great advice!
Great job!
I watched this. In the case i know of, the fawn walked out onto somebody's lawn calling loudly. Then it was quiet for a while. Later toward night they could hear it calling again.
Taylor, you're spot on.
What a wonderfully educational video.
We have a section on our property where we let the grass grow until mid-summer. Mothers often leave their babies there.
Thanks
this is great ♥️
I always wanted to pet a fawn but I won’t thank for shearing this information ❤️
Oops I just sat on my porch 15 feet away from it waiting for the mom to come back. The mom stopped on the other side of the yard and the baby got up and ran to it. It was laying next to a tree for 9+ hours
I understand thanks for reminding me!!!!!
Hi I have a question it’s that I found a baby deer and I think it was waiting for it’s mom to return but there was a grown up deer there that was staying close to the baby but was following a man walking his dog and seemed like him but not feeding or interacting the baby so I’m kind of confused what should I do ?
Great video.
Hello I work at a whitetail deer 🦌 center the first part is so true and there are some people who try and ‘help’ but are doing more harm than good.
So helpful
Thank you for your advice my father has a woods full of deer And fawns tons of wild Turkeys we just let them develope in to full grown animals coyotes And wolves are always trying to attack the calves but that's life
ohhhh i get it thank you Taylor
What should one do, if the fawn is in an area, where it cannot stay for one reason or another? For example if mother deer hides the fawn under a truck, which needs to ride out? Or maybe in a zone, where there is work happening around?
nelanequin
Contact the wildlife rehabilitation centre, because they should know more than the average person about what to do, which will have to be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Then you move it somewhere safe simple as that.
I try to tell people to leave them alone all the time because you’re putting them in harm’s way. This is an important psa. Thank you
My daughter really likes this video she loves deers😗☺
This is so helpful I will defenitly tell my parents if I see a deer with bad symptoms
There are deer that come around near my apartment every now and then (I think they're either Mule or Blacktail deer)...I think they have a comonly used trail in the field on the other side of the fence, because I've seen lots of deer poo over there. I haven't seen any fawns alone in the grass (granted, I haven't been looking for them), but I know to leave them alone if I do. My guess is that they wouldn't be hidden in this area anyway, as it's frequented by people and dogs a lot.
I have only seen baby blackbuck deer but in the spring I’m going to get to see baby deer because some of the fallow deer are having fawns and I always see baby deer in my grandma’s yard because she has a deer farm
Informative
Well someone hit a baby deer and it’s okay now but we took it home to help it recover so what should we do now? If we let it go will it find it’s mom?
What about one wandering around? Saw one in the street today, looked super lost. Was gonna go back and check on it, maybe I’ll wait till tomorrow
always look at the bigger picture ☺️ awesome video
Hmm. Last time I called Animal Control they were far too busy to do anything. Admittedly it was about an escaped pet rabbit that was roaming our neighborhood. Perhaps not their bailiwick, though I would have thought it was. Makes me want to ask, what do I do if Animal Control and my local Wildlife Rehabilitation Center are swamped? Sure, sometimes it can be best to let nature take its course, but how do I know if this is one of those times?
I ve seen a baby deer all alone the last 3 days. And all i wanted to do is carry it. She is so cute
Sooooo cute
My mom once found a baby deer that was not in a very safe area. We put it in a fence area and later called a place that could help it! They said that if we had touched the baby they would have to shoot it and we did touch the baby just not much and they said they could also take the baby to a place but it was two hours away. The baby could die from stress so we said no to both choices. We hide the baby in tall grass near where we found the baby. The mother did find the baby!❣
can milk be given if its really dehydrated ?
it's the ciiiiircle of liiiiiife
Many years ago (the early 1960s), our hometown had a baby deer whose mother had been hit by a semi-truck. Some volunteers fed and cared for it until it was time to release it back into the forest. The young seer just kept coming back into town so they built it a very nice enclosed area by the courthouse with information signs posted so as to keep it healthy. After two years of being a favorite of all town-folks (especially the children’s), some low-life decided to try out their new bow and arrow set on that young deer. That cruel idiot must have been without a conscience because the arrows hit it but none were immediately lethal. When it was found shortly after this, it had to be euthanized due to severe blood lose and the pain it was in. That was a very small town, so the police had a good idea who did it.
I watched this even though I live in the city lol
Before the video started CZcams is showing me ads about bbqs. Hahahahaha so wrong
Yesterday i bought a cockatiel and from then it won't eat ot drink.. what to do?
Wow y’all find deers in your gardens? Wish I can relate
This happened to me today. Noticed the beautiful fawn at midnight and I immediately went online before anything else. Mother came back 13 hrs later.
Sadly we live in an area where there are not any wildlife rehabilitators...the closest once is two hours away. The babies where we live don't seem to make it for some reason....we have seen the same trio of female deer for the last three summers who have had babies and none of their babies have made it. Then we find dead baby deer. One fawn last year was following a mother and another fawn and that baby was constantly crying out....I don't know if they were twins and the mother was only taking care of one or if the other lost it's mother and started following the other lactating mother around but she wasn't feeding it. Both babies ended up dying. Maybe the mother wasn't feeding either. I don't know what the problem is. We have decided this year to see if we can figure out what to do if we find another sick or abandoned baby but it's hard to find an answer.
God Bless you for this video my heart is breaking I want to bring the baby in but I definitely dont want to hurt it.
There are no deers on Prince Edward Island but still enjoyed watching.
Strange... I didn't know that. I guess they don't like potatoes 😉
What to do if you find baby deer with a dead mother on the side of a hwy. Been there 2 days and 2 babies are super dehydrated.
That explains why a friend left his kids lay in forest, he is helping little foxes and bear!
A deer had a baby in our yard, and came back for feedings. But after 2 days the baby got out of our yard, and I saw it run across the street, into a small wooded area. The mother came back the next morning looking for the baby. :( What are the chances the mother found the baby? I'm heartbroken and anxious for them. I've been trying to keep an eye out, and I THINK I saw the mother go in that direction later that day, but it obviously could have been any deer, and I haven't seen them since.
Any info would be great! Thank you!
🎉very informative but can't resist leaving baby fawn 😢
Always good to remind folks!
I live in the middle of a big city, so if I saw a deer in my backyard, there would be something quite wrong. :P
I worked in Washington D.C. for over 28 years and every part of that city has Deer in it. We often saw herds of Deer walking down main roads, such as Wisconsin Ave, Connecticut Ave, South Capital St, you name it and they are there. Lots of city parks and suburban neighborhoods have a steady Deer population, because there is no pressure from hunters or predators.
A found a baby deer and I called some animal place and they said to put it back where I got it then when I put it there the next day the deer was on my porch again
💜
Awwwwww
A baby was walking around my neighborhood for hours I was keeping an eye on it but also keeping distance it was an older one so I was hoping it’s mom wasn’t to worried but low and behold my neighbor and her children were outside and they ran up to it I politely told them to not touch it but her strong willed 8 year old grabbed it and tried pulling it into there house then I got yelled at for telling her to let him go “she’s fine his moms probably dead” her mom told me “they don’t separate unless there’s something wrong anyway” the damage was done and I never found out what happened to him

Hey I'm 11 years old and I love deer i will not hurt a baby deer and i baby deer come up to me
Thanks I had no i deer
Ok so ummm, I just found a baby and sat with it for a while and it was acting funny so I tried calling multiple places trying to get answers but everywhere was closed. I brought the baby to my backyard to take it to a wildlife center tomorrow, but now I’m starting to think I made a mistake. Is it safe to take back and put in its original spot or is it too late?
