    Just for the avoidance of doubt, yes, I did have the foresight to raid my kitchen cupboard and turn up to the studio with a cheese grater. Got some funny looks. And one other thing I meant to say is that of course the important number McLaren hasn't given us yet is a lap time (for the Nordschleife or anywhere else). That, I suspect, will really define what this car is all about.

      If the lap time blows everything before it out of the water, then yes, this car has it's place in the world. But if it looks ugly as hell and is only 5-10 seconds quicker than a GT2RS at Nurburgring... well that would be frankly unforgiveable.

      Henry Catchpole you're reviews are always extremely good and I for one, very much look forward to your road test of this ugly beauty! Americans are great at making movies and deserve much credit for that, but when it comes to documentories and reviews I stick to the Brits.

    • @Chrissy-H
      @Chrissy-H Před 6 lety +1

      +Alan Bowers I understand that a GT2RS is an extremely fast car... stupidly fast. But, with the extra amount of aero this thing has, it looks like a major leap in performance should be possible, up to race car speeds. I fail to see how my original comment offended you so much.

    All us gearheads may be doomed to a dreary electric car future going forward, but with the current state of super & hyper cars we sure are having one hell of an internal combustion party right now.

    • @Wishwader
      @Wishwader Před 6 lety +1

      993mike Hardly dreary - electric cars will be significantly faster on anything other than a straight airfield. If it's between instant torque and a car which loses most of its power through noise and heat, i'll take the dreary electric car thanks. I want that racket redirected into propelling me forward faster. Likes of McLaren and Koenigssegg with adapt like everyone else. Change will be less dramatic than many fear.

    People most of the times reacts on unusual things in life, with ugly, I hate, I do not care, I won't try, but with time you start to like it and actually love it.
    A lot of people at the beginning said that P1 was ugly, but people grew on those new futuristic designs, then another unusual followed 720s, and now this. I just love it, it is aggressive, innovative and most importantly new and different, the only slight turnoff is that big spoiler, yet it is a street legal track car.

    • @TheChazas
      @TheChazas Před 6 lety +3

      Then you were late with the news and announcement of P1 when it was shown for the first time, don't remember the year 2011 or 2012, a lot of said that it is ugly, and that the futuristic design won't stick, basically love or hate. Even a lot of those special people that had accent and a chance on ordering the car have skipped it, thinking on that it won't hold any value, because of McLaren not being that reliable and popular at that moment, no matter it was one of the first hypercars. Lots of at first said that it is strange design with a ugly rear end and ugly weird spoiler, many talked about P1's spoiler. Besides announcement and release car were slightly different, specially the rear grills and etc. The moment car journalist had a chance to try the car on that everything changed, everyone wanted the car, and when the first cars reached owners, car prices doubled, then those who skipped the car saw the potential in value and wanted the car and yet no longer were able to get it, unless rebuying in triple the price.
      Many jumped on the love bandwagon only after a year or two, only when it is actually were released and got tons of praise and not before. McLaren not long ago celebrated five years anniversary of P1, and today McLaren is looked at differently then it was on the announcement of P1.

      TheChazas P1 and Senna are still ugly at the back... The 720S and the 570GT are the only good looking Mclaren at the moment... But lets see how 760LT and BP23 look like... ;-)

    • @TheChazas
      @TheChazas Před 6 lety +2

      Looks is very subjective, everyone has their own taste and opinion, to one it is amazing, to other it is ugly to another one it is the best looking design ever. For me 675LT and P1 is the most amazing cars to date, jet I really love 570s, basically I really like all McLaren cars even Senna and I know it will grow on me even more with time when we see it a lot more. Looking forward to what McLaren bring in a future, a they really growing as a brand and their engineering.

    I know many people probably think it's hideous and over complicated but, there's just something about how the wind forces you to shape a car that is capable of the speeds hyper cars get to today. It looks so interesting with all the carbon, and the complicated shapes they had to make for everything from the front splitter to the active planes inboard in the front bumpers, and the rear dual diffuser being one piece of carbon at that size, just amazing. I personally think the extreme aero actually makes it quite beautiful. Then again, I've always admired aero technology and how it makes a car appear so aggressive. This is quite a marvel in design, but I really love almost everything about it aesthetically. I'm sure the performance will be something beautiful as well, only time will tell. Looking forward to the review, whenever that day comes! Great video.

Not every car needs to be bite the back of your hand beautifull, and maybe people will use this for what it was made rather than turning it into a garage queen because of it.

Ayton Senna was extremely dedicated to details and committed to pushing all the limits to get the fastest track times and win races. So, that's why this car is named after him. It hasn't come into fashion yet. Thats how cool and stylish this guy is. With a sense of style like he's got we must listen to him when he says the car isn't nice to look at.

    Manufacturers should just give us the curb weight or just STFU, and not give us the dry weight instead. It's just another way for people who don't know the difference to copy and paste and before you know it, everyone believes that's the actual weight even though it couldn't be further from the truth.

    This thing better take a hot dump on the GT2 RS nurburgring lap because my eyes hurt from squinting and it still looks like an elephant fell on the 720S.
