- Tensions are high in Chicago where police today released bodycam footage in the fatal shooting of a 7th grader last month. 13 year old Adam Toledo was shot and killed on March 29th. Joy says, "With this 13-year-old child, they didn't wait 10 seconds before opening up on him like it was a drive-by. He didn't wait to assess what that child was doing. And that child was standing there with his hands up with nothing in them." Aired on 04/15/2021.

The officer shot and killed a criminal, with a gun. The officer had a split second to react to the actions of this armed criminal. The blame rests squarely on the criminal and his parents. If you want to protest, protest bad parenting and criminal activity.

This is the situation the cop was put in, except instead of getting hit by a ball he would get hit by a bullet. No one can react in 0.1 seconds, especially if you’re running in the dark. He had his body bladed away (left side toward the officer) while the gun was STILL in his right hand. Multiple angle video shows this. He dropped the gun BEHIND the fence where the officer could not see the drop. As he turned to put his hands up, his right hand swept forward BEFORE it went up. The officer fired as soon as the hands moved forward. A good argument can be made, from the officers perspective, this looked like an armed guy swinging to fire. The officer can be heard in the chase yelling "Drop it! Drop it!" Officer knew Toledo had a gun. Time stamps show about 1 second from the gun in Toledo's hand and his body bladed, to Toledo turning, to the officer firing. About 1 second.
This looks like a justified shoot. Tragic, but justified. Kid had a gun. Wanna get mad at someone? Get mad at his parents.

The kid should have tossed out the gun to where the officers could see it, and pulled up his sleeves and put his hands up, before he came out, to increase the safety. That's the only thing i can think of. In some areas its such high crime you have to carry a gun for your own safety, the trick is to not make the cops feel threatened.

Yes, we can assume he is a criminal based on having a gun at 2 am with shots fired but the cops are not the judge, everyone deserves to be arrested and taken to custody, regardless of their color or neighborhood, when they are complying with police directives.

This is the only case where I do not think the cop overreacted. The kid had the gun, threw the gun, and turned in the dark. I don’t fault the kid. I just think it’s an understandable mistake with a horrifying outcome. Every other case I’ve seen, the cops were being knee jerk and unprofessional. In this particular case, the kid had a gun and it was hard to see what was happening.

@@charlesljones2454 the body cam has a timer and the police released it. It was analyzed and the time between the gun being tossed and the shot was milliseconds. Did you not know this? In a life threatening situation if you see someone with a gun and they suddenly spin around, you shoot. It is reasonable to assume the cop was unaware the little thug had tossed his gun less than 1 second earlier. So glad there is timed footage so people making this out to be something it isn’t, can be called out as evil liars.

The police told him to stop, he ran off chased by police he stopped and you can clearly see a firearm in his hand. Ordered to drop the weapon he tried to ditch the gun at the same show his hands which was a lame move. Gun was picked up a few feet away. I think this was on Officer Tatums youtube site.

This lady's perspective is way, way off and out of context. There's no comparison of the Toledo shooting to any of these others. It's all in how people surrender. Toledo made a slick move to conceal the weapon which appeared to the officer as a probable attack. There's a difference. The others gave up without threatening moves...simple.

That kid pulled a weapon from his pocket and instead of dropping it to the ground where the officer could see it, hid the gun from view, tossed it discreetly, then whirled suddenly and the officer fired believing the kid was turning on him with the weapon. That's vastly different that the other cases Atty. Crump is talking about. Watch the tape slowly and you see that as the kid's empty hand became visible he was shot a millisecond before hand. So he was not shot with his hands up, he was shot raising his hands due to his own deceptive move. Again totally different than all these other cases....

The 13 year old didn't have a gun. He turned around when the officer told him to and his hands were in full view and his hands were up. The officer opened fire before that poor kid could even turn all the way around however in the video you can see that there was nothing in that child hands 🥺🥺🥺

If there was in fact a gun that he threw I'm positive that the police department would have already presented that evidence to the public showing the gun showing where he threw it and where it landed.
