The only guy who sings chewing gum and plays bass at the same time a real king
Really!! Gum!!
And sing bassing harcore
AND HE IS LEFT-HANDED....He has chewed gum forever...prob like 1980 or so
It was part of the era
Legend has it he's been chewing it since the 80s....
Mark King is simply one of the best bass players of all time.
He is the truly best and surely a genius!
Hell yeah
the best*
Amazing xx
Yepp but Stanley Clarke too
hand for the drummer - what a groove and watching Mark all the time to make sure it fits - what a star
The drummer is kicking ass. What a rhythm section
He's really great. Hard to measure up to Gary Husband though.
I have played bass for many many years, and let me tell you this,, to play is one thing, but to play and sing is another...
I can't even begin to tell you how difficult it would be to sing and play such an intricate and busy bass line like Mark king is playing in this song.
He is from another planet.
Total respect to a legend.
I salute you.
✊👏👏👏👏👏🙏
But at beginning of and end it's routine like anything else you do
AND chewing chewing gum while he sings.
Yes, this was the First thing what I must learned 😂 at first time I‘ve tried this. Its realy heavy to do both things together. Its Not like guitar and sing.
Spot on.
the best thing about jazz festival is, the sound engineers are top notch and you could hear details of every instruments played. man that bass drum sound mixed very well with mark's bass tone
Way different from the rock/metal sound engineers that suck more and more year after year 😢 I hope to see them live one day, amazing music played by amazing musicians!
Playing bass like that is hard enough ,but to be able to sing over the Top of it ..the whole band is incredible .musicians at the top of there Game !!!!
Don't forget the gum chewing too
Totally agree the guy is just amazing
Right......
@@mr3n10 nice one Paul , that made me chuckle 👍
@@mr3n10 Truth! 😎😀
😇
There's nothing quite like a Mike Lindup harmony. Mark King's vocal is flawless and what he plays while singing is insane. Amazing band
Pursuit of Accidents a great album.
Superb musicians at the top of their game. Why this group doesn't get more recognition is a crime.
They still have their audience, but the kids listen to hip-hop or techno. Nowadays people get used to computer-music. What a loss.
This was only from about 10 years ago when they weren’t very famous, in the 80’s they were recognised and popular and very famous
The best
@@funklover24by t shirts
they sold 30 million copies. so you were perhaps not aware. all their gigs are sellouts.
Level 42 started the jazz funk movement in the UK and then crossed over to become one of the biggest bands of the 80s.......Mark King is a legend 😉
63yes
Mark sings, play bass and synchro he jew a gum. Who else is doing that. He's a living legend😊
Wow this takes me back to being a 16/17 yr old who loved their music but never really appreciated what great musicians level 42 were, I’m appreciating it now as a 58 yr old ❤
Me too. Knew there was a reason I loved them so much
Yes am 60 seen them many times mark always does the here we go during starchild magical bass player xx
Me too.
Me too. 💓. Top band, funky & some sad tunes. The best.. 👌
You are Right! Im 55 now, and i just realized, they are a genius with their arrangements and music at that time
"Love Games, yeah?" And within a second he proceeds to play something magical I can only dream of playing. Not to mention that killer improvisation before it. This man is something else, what an absolute legend.
One day will recognise what a great Bassist he waz.
Been following these guys since the 80's. One of my FAVORITE bands !!!!!
Pursuit of Accidents great album.
@@user-eo2oz2tf4q Excellent Excellent Album !!!! Bought my copy when I was in the Netherlands
Sounds as good today as the 1st time I heard this in ‘82 , just magnificent
Fantastic musicians. Mark King is a God in the bass world. Having dabbled a bit with bass, I have no idea how he does the thumb thing. Total talent combined with genius is my guess. Wonderful.
From the past till today - just funking great
Mark is still a Monster Bass player, Absolute slap Bass Legend, 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👌🏽🎸🤙🏽🔥🔥🏴The Drummer is fantastic,he keeps better time than a Rolex,
I agree but Rolex is the wrong analogy, Rolex keep terrible time! Like mins out a month. Grand Seiko would be better👍
My greatest disappointment, having lived in the UK, was not seeing Level 42 in concert, live.
One of my alltime favorite bands. ♨️💯🇨🇦🇨🇦
been there done that.....a couple of times.😁
I thank my Lecturer, Mr.Farish who don't don't play bass but appreciate good music. He leaned me his VHS . That's the first time I heard Mark King in 1998-99. I was a teen
The pursuit of Accidents.
Excellent ☝🏽
I could listen to this man play bass forever.
Mark's sense of groove is phenomenal to me and I'm a guitarist. Not even talking about his tone .freaking amazing band.

The bass sounds like, and I mean it in the most complimentary way possible, electrified iceberg lettuce. Love it.
Pursuit of Accidents.. Great Album.
SALUTE! MR MARK KING & THE BAND.. STAY STRONG, HEALTHY & STAY SAFE.. FAN FRM.. 💚🤟🤟🤟💚. 🇸🇬SINGAPORE🇸🇬
Classic! Heard this song live in 1983 at a gig at the Zeche in Bochum, Germany..
Small place, small crowd, but damn : That gig was intense!
R.I.P Boon Gould..
I was there too! Was the 80 ies ! Great time, great place ! Saw the early Simple Minds and OMD and Comsat Angels there too.
One of the best bands to grace the stage love them. Dedicated the song something about you to the birth of my son who is now 36 years old..😂

One of my favourite songs, of you level 42, and of anyone . Great performance, I really like it because it feels like listening to the studio version, all the musical parts are faithful, and played in a loveable way.

Brought back such good memories incredible band
This is such a blast! I saw these guys back in 80’s at the Hammersmith odeon supported by Wang Chung…
As I watch your face
I can see my life go by
You mean everyhing to me
Just can't take no more
Throw a smile my way
And the pain I feel inside
Turns to love for you
And I'm yours
Do lovers ever need to hide
The things they really fell inside
I simply need you yo need me
Can't you see
Once I hoped to be
Your lover and your friend
It just can't go on
Your love games
Your love games
Do lovers ever need to hide
The things they really feel inside
If you won't show your heart to me
Set me free
Now the time has come
To show you how I feel
The love I gave to you
I can't give no more
Even now I see
The salt tears n your eyes
But it can't go on
Your love games
Level 42-----a whole nother 'level' of talent---precision and FUNK!
Fabulosoooo... grande Mark..!! 👏👏👏❤️
Mark gave that bass a good slapping!!!!! 😂🤣😂🤣😂 I went to see Level 42 live when they were at their peak back in the day. They were brilliant!!!!! 😁
I still have my polydor original of the first album and play it to death even now.
That breakdown floors me every time - the bass is DESTROYING it! :D
Mark King a God in my eyes and Level 42 gave pleasure to so many people. First heard this group in 1981 while on holiday in Ibiza. 😊
You. Must have cought them at the time of the album.. Pursuit of Accidents.
This performance will never ever grow old... it transcends time... I'm sure the lyrics could be translated into any language...
Just pure magic!!!
Classe ed eleganza, King fuoriclasse assoluto😬
I was only 16 when I saw Level 42 with my first love ❤️ seen them again in October 2023 in Glasgow with my first love 😂 we met again in 2021 after 38 years, they are just amazing and I want to say thank you to David for re-introducing them into my life again, I want love in a peaceful world! Our song 🎵 Love you xxxx Mark King you are the greatest bass player I’ve ever seen……
Excellent, always will be.
Pursuit of Accidents.
I met both Mike and Mark in the green room at the Croydon gig. Did we talk about the music, no we talked about ordernary stuff. With Mike we talked about his mum living near to us. With Mark we talked about age. Forget the important number being 42. In Marks head he is still 23 and so is his dad.
Two such lovely guys who took the time to talk about everyday stuff.
Btw when I was 23 I was up to fabulous 4 albums with Stand in the Light and the first time I saw them live. So 23 is very important to me.
absolutely superb
Still have a cassette of level 42 somewhere. Haha cassettes remember ? Some will some won't I guess. lol......loved l42 upbeat funky and unique.....! .
Pursuit of Accidents.
What a great Video! ❤ 🇬🇧
slapping while singing and chewing gum................................... he's a goat of bass
Undoubtedly a Jazz band.
And a touch of slapped Funk.
One of the best live recordings. What a great concert. The ending is arranged so perfectly.
I’m must of slept my youth away not hearing this till now how long they been around marvelous
Millennials generation deserve such good stuff guys, never stop believe in
These brothers are great musicians.
That song is a Master Class of funk, and Mark King is the professor.
The best Band 1980
God dammit, you guys rule. I've only ever casually heard some Level 42 over the years but when you guys announced your first ever Australian tour in 2020 I did a deep dive and have become so obsessed with your entire catalogue! I'm saddened to see the 2020 COVID dates were never rescheduled... though I'm assuming ticket sales weren't strong enough for Australia so it just never happened, a damn shame, I would love to see this performed live.
I hope a tour ensues down here one day. You've certainly got at least one new fan in Perth, Western Australia!
It brings back memories - Mark King (like the whole band) simply good!
Einfach geil, laut hören mit viel Bass!!!!
Play the pursuit of Accidents my friend.
Loved them since the 80s, saw them at rewind in Macclesfield last year - still the business!!!
Epic sounds 🎶🎶🎵🔈🔉🔊
This band is so awesome, however the drummer is the best we have ever heard.
Yup. The whole group is outstanding and the drummer is good. Lots of quick tempo changes in their music and he's on top of it. And, like the rest of them, he's having FUN. It must be really cool to have fun be your JOB.
Wow....mr. Mark King you are the best 'slap man'.no: 1 top of the world
Awesome drummer. Deserves some sort of award or..mosque? P.S. Amazed at how Mark and Mike's'voices (without voicebox or other tricks) siill sound like as if it was 1981-90.
ベースラインを完璧に演奏しながらボーカルとれるって本当にすごい
A distinctive and beautiful voice, especially the great, harmonious music
🤩🤩🤩👍👍👍👍wonderful memorys, thats music with heart and it is a soundtrack of my life, soooo good. Thanx for this fantastic upload. 👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
that drummer is amazing, Mike and Mark are just like they played on the original in 1981!!
the drummer is Pete Ray Biggin, he's a beast
Mano a batida de baixo que tem esse cara nunca ouvi igual!!!Mark king, rei demais.

Always lessoning ❤ 2024
❤❤❤ pure perfection
Mark King! Extremely powerful bass player!
What a great album and follow up.
amazing song....amazing band
A prime example of knowing your audience.
Perhaps someplace in Britain or the US would have been a better decision.
LOVE Level42!!!!
Still sounding good in 2023
I was there. Piazza della Riforma.
Guten Abend, liebe Leute ...der Schlagzeuger ist sooooo genial
Ich liebe seine Spiel Affinität, mit dem leidenschaftlichen ....bums !

VERY , VERY TALENTED .
I only want 1% from his know how…realy. Mark is the real Godfather of Bassguitar! I love hin so much.🎉
Ese bajo es una locura, te golpea...🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝
A fan from the very beginning. Marks rhythmic slap bass helped by the fact he started as a drummer. All first class musicians creating an ausome sound.
Soooo good.
Such a phenomenal Bassist and Singer🙌🏽 His voice hasn't changed with age 🙌🏽 One of those things I wished I pursued as a youth. I So wanted to be a bass player, drummer and actress. Im 56 mext next week and wasted my life 😤🙄
That bass!
