Yes, please do an 8 month update. I had a lady working in the liquor store that had traditional locs that complimented me on my Sisterlocks. She said she was thinking about taking hers down to get Sisterlocks installed.

I'll be 8 months locked on the 30th. I truly enjoy being able to see your hair since we're so close in the journey. It makes me feel like I have someone to grow up with 😆
lol. I get it. How's your journey so far? Any trouble?
@@TheRealKylaB it's been good. In the first 2 months I experienced a few slipping from the back due to excessive sweating. Once they started growing more, that issue was gone. I'm still braiding and banding for wash days. I was washing my hair every 10 days in the beginning but I noticed how frizzy it made my hair. I cut back on the amount of washes in between retightening days and it makes my locs still look good at the root. My locs are settling in.

I have the SAME issues with frizzy locs after about 3 weeks. I get more hair compliments being locked than when I was loose natural. However my husband prefered my fro 😩

Looking beautiful as usual! Your 2 weeks is like my hair on retie day. 2 weeks in my scalp is not that visible at all. I’m surprised there are men that know what Sisterlocks are, since women barely know, but I guess they are more common in the US.

Yeah. I live in a a very Caribbean neighborhood, and go to places where a lot of caribbean people tend to be. So I see sisterlocks and microlocks all the time - Supermarket, mall, just passing people in the street, I'm just surprised men know what they are. lol. Especially, that they know enough to call them by name. lol
Its funny how all of us that have sisterlocs have the same hairstyle at first, part off the side! Do you still have slippage? I am at 6 months, I have fine coils and spray with water and rose water mixture every other day, but I still have slippage. I don’t wash my hair myself because I have slippage when I do. Learned that you have to let it dry in the braid and band after washing to avoid it. And I agree most men commit on my sisterlocs too.
I don't have much slippage anymore, my locs have been behaving. lol.
I barely spray my hair. Maybe once every 2 weeks or so and I've washed my hair myself twice. I let my hair out of the braids when it was damp and I didn't have any slippage. I think it really depends on your hair type.

I get more compliments from men as well❤️ I do a semi color on my hair which hides the bulbs. However, I service locs as a stylist so it’s easy for me product wise and which color line is best. I’m a cosmetologist of 26 years though. Don’t do a semi color yourself though.

Don't worry, I will definitely not be doing any DIY hair coloring. I'll leave that to the professionals.
They are coming along wonderfully! I agree with the 2 week sweet spot on weeks 5-6 my locs start sitting up at the root, it be looking like a helmet for me 😂😂

I don’t like the bulbs in mine either.
Men are more honest and ready to compliment, some women are hater’s. I met a really nice lady that has sister locks also on my first week and we are still friends.
Your hair is beautiful! I suggest less manipulation. I also have fine hair, the volume you gain later on is tremendous, just give it some time. The more I stretched my hair, the longer it took to lock.

I have noticed the headaches as well a lot sooner than before when I was loose natural. But the tension doesn’t bother me until I notice the headaches

Wow... about the followers thing. Were you posting about natural hair beforehand? Maybe all those people who unfollowed you mainly followed for hair that they could relate to i.e loose natural. But still, idk why they left because your install is gorgeous! If anything that would have persuaded me to get sisterlocks hahaa. Binge watched all your videos after I've made up my mind that I'm going to do microlocs. Love your content!

Yeah. It can get costly. There are options though.
You can get sisterlocs, or microlocks. Some people get DIY microlocs and maintain them themselves. I don't know if that's something you want to do. You could also just get small traditional locs.
Definitely look at different locticians/consultants for the prices as well.

Requesting an 8 month update, please! 😁 Also I wonder if the followers you lost on IG were loose naturals who were sad to see you start a different natural hair journey they didn't feel they could relate to as much?? Like how people with locs who comb them out always lose some followers as a result. Anyway, your SLs are maturing so nicely! 💛
That's what I'm thinking. When it comes to hair videos we follow when we can relate most likely. Doesn't mean there's hate or anything, just can't relate anymore.
It wasn’t that. I wasn’t posting anything related to hair until I got Sisterlocks. I wasn’t about any type of hair journey. My page was private and I only let people I know follow me at that time. The hair journey posts and people who relate or care about my hair didn’t come till I made my page public and made my IG about my hair.
I do believe some of those followers simply weren’t interested in watching my hair. Which is okay. I went from 3 posts a year, to 3 posts a month about my hair. So I get it. 🤷🏾♀️.

Do you sleep in a satin bonnet or silk/ satin scarf? I've had my sistaloc's since '04. Get used to the frizz as time goes on. I use rosewater with or without glycerin depending on seasons & essential oils with water only. Stay patient keep posting. I miss the stage you're in.

My hair is about 2-3x thicker in a hair tie/scrunchie than it used to be though!

Have you experienced slippage? Any tips to prevent it?

Yes. The back row!
My first few months with these locs, the back row needed to be re-established when every time I got a re-ti. We ended up combining a few before the slippage finally stopped.
Mine were caused by friction. I don't know if there was anything i could do to prevent it.

@@TheRealKylaB Back rows upto the third row, random ones in the middle of nowhere and front row . It’s really hot where I am so I’m attributing it to sweating.

Now that you're in your over a year into your journey do you still do your reties every 5 weeks because of the fizz or are you past that stage now 😀Just asking because I'm in my 7th month now and am experiencing the same thing
I don’t get retires because of frizz. I go every 6-8 weeks now because by time I feel like my hair needs to be done, 6-8 weeks have passed. My hair is naturally soft so it gets frizzy as time goes by from friction or styling. I do feel like there is less frizz as your locs mature and I think I’m just not bothered by frizz anymore to be honest.

Was your instagram a natural hair page? Asking because I unfollowed a bunch of sisterlocks page when I decided against locking my hair. I then unfollowed a bunch of natural hair pages when I decided to relax.its nothing personal
