- I had planned on posting another cover this week but I've been under the weather and currently don't have a strong enough voice to sing, so in the meantime, I thought I'd post another Lightfoot concert from back in the day. I hope to post one more as a request in the coming week or so. Here's a little background on this one:
When Gordon Lightfoot performed in Seattle, Washington on June 21st, 1975, he played two shows in one day. One was given in the early part of the day and again later in the evening. Mimi Farina opened for him both times.
This recording was taken from the evening show and features both Terry Clements and Red Shea on lead guitar as was common during much of the 1975 tour. This recording is very clear and the distinction between Red and Terry's playing can be heard much better than in the Massey Hall concert I posted a few weeks ago. Gordon and the band were in top form as always and several great songs are played. The setlist features all original Lightfoot material except "The Auctioneer". Covers of "Tennessee Stud" and "Partners" were not played during this concert and I'm not quite sure if this was beginning point of their removal from future setlists as by 1976 both songs were omitted from all future Lightfoot concerts as far as my research shows.
This recording is very high quality and has been left unedited with the exception of "High and Dry" being cut out completely. The reason for this is the tape abruptly starts during the last verse of the song, so I decided to remove it. The rest of the set has been left unedited and unpolished.
Setlist:
High and Dry (only partially there and subsequently removed)
Carefree Highway
Bend In The Water
Don Quixote
Christian Island
All The Lovely Ladies
The Soul Is The Rock
Now And Then
Sundown
Cotton Jenny
The Auctioneer
If You Could Read My Mind
Cherokee Bend
Pussywillows Cat-Tails
Canadian Railroad Trilogy
Old Dan's Records
Fine As Fine Can Be
Hope you all enjoy! - Hudba
Gordon never made a bad song. Everything had thought and craftsmanship. He will be missed.
Not many
none
no bad songs
"Now and Then" is probably my favorite Lightfoot song. The forlorn poetry woven so intricately with the melancholic chart is nothing short of art.
I find myself singing this song a lot.

I love recordings of Gordon's live shows. The spontaneous energy is so different from studio recordings. Thank you for posting this!
thank you for posting this for all of us. we all miss him dearly.
Thank you met him at Symphony Hall Boston 1974
I was there, in '75 ! Thank you, so much ! I miss Gordan Lightfoot !
That’s so cool! You’re welcome! I miss him too
Do you remember who the woman was that opened for the show?
@@michellegrinder9484 Joan Baez, wasn't it? Someone like that - folksinger, for sure!
@@daretkneeland5400 not sure, i got hold of a reel to reel bootleg and the recording started after her introduction, the content creator mentioned mimi farina, so ill do some more research into her and joan baez, thank you for your input, its been very helpful
@@michellegrinder9484 Mimi Farina, is Joan Baez's sister, and I may have gotten the two confused.
I LIKE HOW YOU INTRODUCED YOUR BAND GORDON
Thank you for posting this concert.
Thanks, amazing! I'd love to hear the messed up high and dry too.
YEAH GORDON YOU ARE A GREAT CANADIAN POET AND GUITAR PLAYER REST IN PEACE YOUR MUSIC LIVES ON
Let us just pretend awhile, think about the good things now and then.
Indeed, it’s time for a “ Summertime Dream” my friend❤😊
This was when he didn't cut out a whole verse of Carefree Highway
Ok, i got my fill. Red's hot and loud on "Old Dan's Records" thanks 👍
Love the restart of Cotton Jenny. "Too fast" and then they slowed it down.
Makes me laugh when I hear it, I also noticed someone was tapping on their guitar to help reset the tempo
Awesome! thanks
I think this is the only time I've heard "The Soul Is The Rock" live, now if only there was a clear recording of "Seven Island Suite" that would be aweosme!
I think I have a live take of it somewhere
Yep. There it is.
Lightfoot was a perfectionist, but I think to a fault. Early-morning music publishing would not allow bootlegs to get out. Since his death, I've seen all kinds of Gordon Lightfoot live concert uploads. I love him, but he's a strange bird. One time, in the green room after a show in 2001. I was in the back and we were the only two in the room. And you know what he asked me? This is what he asked,
"Do you use a capo for Canadian railroad Trilogy?"
I replied, " uh, yeah".
He said " that's good cuz the sheet music has it in F"
I said, " ahh, yeah"
Seriously. He was a great guy to be around. I got to chill and drink with Terry Clements as well. My lead gtr player and I performed "Long Thin Dawn" for him in the parking lot after closing time. I was on cloud nine!
@@RobbyLakeMusic that’s awesome! I met him only once but I really had no idea what to say to him 😂
Have you heard the concert where Gord curses right in the middle of, it's to late for prayin'?
czcams.com/video/JOHD4E_cJTk/video.html @ 1:05 the song starts Toronto 1975 Massey Hall
Someone turn up Red Shea's amp!
Terry Clements at this point I believe. Red left the scene and was replaced by Clements mid '72.
I keep waiting for Red to open up with a loud solo
I think he gets a good one in “the auctioneer” on his telecaster
Thank you!!!! I can close my eyes and feel like i am back at one of the many Gordon concerts we went to over the years!
He has no peer, never will…
Terry plays w/ a pick only, no fingers (even on "If You Could Read My Mind, he uses a pick throughout! Crazy huh?). It's too bad he didn't let Red Shea play his original arrangement of Don Quixote. We don't have a live version of Red performing it as we hear in on the original LP. I posted a CZcams video tutorial for it. I heard he played it (and "Ode to Big Blue",) just once, at the Royal Albert Hall and that it's been bootlegged; but, I've never been able to track down a copy. Anyone here have it?
He's bending some of that Good Bros. banjo part. Get em Red!
I will not accept Gordons’ loss; why can’t we live forever?
I just got a reel to reel recording of this concert, there was a female artist that opened the show, dont know who it is, the recording appearst to have started after her indtroduction
It may have been Mimi Farina
@@Telecoaster94music thank you, i will check her out, im trying to figure out how close to the original this recording is, the sound quality is too good to have been done with a cassette recorder of the time, and the tape noise is so low that it couldnt be too many generations of copy from the original. the quality of the recording suggest that its an original, but i dont see how anyone could pull off recording a bootleg with a 7 in reel to reel deck. whatever the case the person that recorded it went to the expense of recording it with high quality tape
