It was played live in 1979 while warming up for recording DSR. I was in the audience with my Dad and they played this. Back when they played LOUD! They retired the song almost immediately. Never heard it again.

I have firstly watched the movie in 1979.
Gordon may be regarded as a folk singer and a writer of introspective ballads, but he proved over and over again that he could rock when he really wanted to! I love this song!

It definitely has a stronger feel to it than playing it on the first fret in E

'Spanish Moss.' Erotic, sensuous, triple entendres celebrating his first wife's womanhood, body, their romantic meeting in Georgia after their divorce and the regret he'll never have her back. All of the song written years after the divorce. He wrote 'Beautiful for her, as well. When the divorce was finalized. Not to mention every one of his best love songs and songs of deep regret written from the start to end of his career. To say he never got over her is an understatement.

What brand and model guitar is that?
This is an epiphone hummingbird 12 string, it’s one of the better acoustics that they offer. It’s also the closest guitar I’ve found in terms of sound to Gord’s Gibson B45
What are the chords?
The guitar is in drop D tuning. The chords are D major, A13, A7, G,

You’re welcome! I’ve gone back to using the Shubb 12 string capo after a few truss rod adjustments helped get the action very low. However, the Dunlop is a very solid piece of equipment

I just got a reel to reel recording of this concert, there was a female artist that opened the show, dont know who it is, the recording appearst to have started after her indtroduction

@@Telecoaster94music thank you, i will check her out, im trying to figure out how close to the original this recording is, the sound quality is too good to have been done with a cassette recorder of the time, and the tape noise is so low that it couldnt be too many generations of copy from the original. the quality of the recording suggest that its an original, but i dont see how anyone could pull off recording a bootleg with a 7 in reel to reel deck. whatever the case the person that recorded it went to the expense of recording it with high quality tape

Thanks! It’s one of Gord’s best tracks from early in his career. It is a bit challenging vocally and I even read that Gordon himself rarely performed it for that very reason.
