- Metamorphoses by Ovid Written 1 A.C.E.
Translated by Sir Samuel Garth, John Dryden, et al
Today I have re-released my reading of Ovid’s monumental epic poem of transformation. Every archetype known to modern man stems from this 2000 year old work. It has spawned countless works of art of every kind in every modality. I used the Samuel Garth, John Dryden (& company) translations because the language is flawless. The 15 books comprised herein require over 17 hours of listening… I have no idea how many hours it took me to find all the illustrations and of course to record and edit them all. In many of the stories, mythical characters are used to illustrate examples of obedience or disobedience toward the gods, and for their actions are either rewarded or punished by a final transformation into some animal, vegetable, or astronomical form. The importance of metamorphosis is more apparent than real, however; the essential theme of the poem is passion (pathos), and that gives it more unity than all the ingenious linking and framing devices the poet uses. The erotic emphasis that had dominated Ovid’s earlier poetry is broadened and deepened into an exploration of nearly every variety of human emotion-for his gods are nothing if not human. That undertaking brought out, as his earlier work had not, Ovid’s full powers: his wit and rhetorical brilliance, his mythological learning, and the peculiar qualities of his fertile imagination. The vast quantities of verse in both Greek and Latin that Ovid had read and assimilated are transformed, through a process of creative adaptation, into original and unforeseen guises. By his genius for narrative and vivid description, Ovid gave to scores of Greek legends, some of them little known before, their definitive form for subsequent generations. No single work of literature has done more to transmit the riches of the Greek imagination to posterity. By 8 ce the Metamorphoses was complete, if not yet formally published; and it was at that moment, when Ovid seemed securely placed on a pinnacle of successful achievement, that he was banished to Tomis by the emperor Augustus.

Oh god, finally someone who knows how to read epic poetry. Most other people just read it as bloody prose with no care to meter.
Dreadful, shocking, tsk tsk.
She did a fantastic job.
It's really difficult to comprehend a book without someone reading out loud with me, I'm so glad this is here!
word brother
Please share the ebook
I can't read so I appreciate this
Fall in love with yr reading, so beautiful, thank you ❤️
Your reading is genius, like somehow seeing a masterwork under its original and intended light rather than the setting of modern museum lighting, and thus seeing its full, true beauty. What you do, in oration and original composition, is tectonically revalatory, seeming to actually move earth!
(((((((Kevin))))))) xoxoxo
Obviously, I have clicked “Like” before listening to all of this, but the first couple of minutes suggests that this is a truly marvelous reading, worthy of the very best audiobook. I’m going to browse if you other things, but will probably listen to this before bed tonight
Absolute beautiful voice. Perfect narration. Excellent!
Your reading is just stunning! I see you're still in the midst of uploading these. You are doing a great and beautiful service; thank you so much! I shall love listening to a book a day over the next week or so. I desperately hope you finish the project! I can't find this translation anywhere on audio but here.
Thank you so very much! Oh yes, of course, I will finish the project. It will be done in February. I've completed 10 books. I have several overlapping series and I keep them overlapping because I don’t want to limit the scope of the channel which has always meant to be wide-ranging in its readings... and accessible to all viewers - the lovers of audiobooks and shorter formats alike. I did this with Ulysses and Swann's Way, as well i.e. posting short stories, poems, essays, and speeches in-between installments of the audiobooks. I only abandoned one audiobook, The Seawolf. I stopped recording The Seawolf for personal reasons. The gentleman who requested it was getting a bit too...shall we say... involved with my readings of them. Much as I appreciate the enthusiasm of ardent viewers, there are lines that shouldn't be crossed and I'm afraid that particular viewer tried to obliterate them. Such are the occupational hazards of internet posting;) Here is the playlist thus far czcams.com/play/PL7Wr1VPtVzqVvMEpCgtwTcCQS-aCpak0x.html Cheers!
This helps so much to keep my brain on track while I’m reading the book. I’ll go and think thoughts in my head while my eyes follow the words without it usually.
@ 17:17 'wolf-dog man' has ALWAYS BEEN, our current reality alike Ovid's times.............crazy scary wonderful ''story''.

The reading/background art - combination is so, so great :) :) :)! Thanks from Holland!
It was pure happenstance that brought me to your page, but once encountered, your exquisite reading gave much delectation. Thank you. I shall be listening to the rest of the books.
Outstanding. Wonderful reading, wonderful imagery.
This really is a superb reading. I have just recently bought the limited Folio edition, illustrated with Titian's paintings, which is highly recommended for those who can find it and afford it.
Appreciate you using your voice and with feelings. Just subscribed to your channel and I look forward to hearing more!
Thank you!
Thank you so much, Tracy!
Literally the best audiobook I’ve ever heard. I’m not joking. Very well done.
Yes, beautifully read x
So well-read, a marvel.
I don't even comprehend how you translate poetry from another language and retain the rhythm and meaning of the words.
A Fabulous Reading... 🌀
This is what I believe the authentic true history of our world. I was driven here by truth and your reading Odin's words has helped me understand some missing links. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Odin?
So wonderful. Thank you for this.
Excellent! Thank you!
The Seawolf by Jack London. Your voice will light the strength of this.

Waw!!! It’s amazing ! I am glad I find this channel 😍
This Metamorphosis Reading reminded me that I recently had a dream I was with a little young lady who was made of feathers like a bird. We never spoke. She was innocent sad and shy and homely, like an ugly duckling. I felt sorry for her and began cuddling her. Her feathered skin was brittle. Does anybody have any ideas about the meaning of this dream?
Dream symbols are often about our inner selves. Perhaps you have a vulnerable part of you that you would like to protect and comfort. Do you feel that you were picked on by someone, recently or long ago ? Feathers and birds might symbolize the ability to fly, freedom, and rising above something, or seeing something from a higher perspective.
I don't know how this video. And reached my phone... I've been taking a nap for the last hour how did this video get on here... And I'm not trying to be conceited but I can guarantee you that I have not changed anything on my side of my life but pray even more harder for the world. Goodbye
I think this could be the inspiration for Shakespeare's "Midsummer Nights Dream"
The older translation, by Golding, is.
I thought everybody knew how to read. The epics. Education is. The freedom out of the hood
The earth is created out of giants.
yummy metamorpius...
This is a fantastic reading, I appreciate the amount of work that's gone into this especially given it's put out for free. You appear to make a minor Freudian slip at 15:40, mistaking "prostrate people" for "prostate people".
AMAZING!
Check out my poetry on my channel!
Look around at your world it is littered with the carcusses of titan giants!
Thanks 😊
How did this guy knew so much about God and how the world was created ?
He heard it from others.
Good question. Maybe he did not.
It was probably common knowledge back then.
It's as if we are only further removed from the truth as generations come to pass

I will read it. I can't promise when I will begin doing so, I have quite a backlog of texts waiting to be heard, but be assured that I will begin doing so some time in the next 6 months. Cheers.
Investigate the book, you will see its anything but average. I own a copy more than 100 years old and to this day - still the greatest book ever written (my opinion of course). Plus I found out years later, that the real life main character - Wolf Larsen, was born and raised on the same Island as me. Cape Breton Island East Canada. I appreciate it,very much so...that you will read this.
Can I ask a quick question...where you are from?
Burning Daylight angraecum species?
Is this the satanic Bible? And Gnostic gospels were circulation freely at this time. Very different perspective.
Not really “satanic” I believe. It was just from a time when people believed that there were multiple gods that created the cosmos instead of just one, because that is what their literature taught them.
No. Ovid was a Roman poet and The Metamorphoses is one of his greatest series of poetry. It's not satanic by any stretch of the imagination. As for polytheistic people in general, we worship many gods because we believe there are many gods. Not just because someone shoved a bible in our lap and force fed us monotheism. Christians need to open their eyes to this truth.
How would you ever think this is Satanic? It's entirely exterior to the Abrahamic tradition and can't be connected to it from a theological sense. You can find influences and similarities through comparative philosophy/literature/theology, but to say it's Satanic is absurd
