@@Shmerpy Upon further investigation, in the NHL the whistle can be deemed to be blown at the point when the ref had the intent to blow it, not when we hear it blown. I imagine that rule applies in this case. Any time the goalie has the puck covered, to avoid injury the refs I believe (not a written rule) are told to blow it quickly. In this case the Swedish player whacked at the puck and the goalie when it was out of sight to the ref, but when we heard the whistle we could see the puck as the goalie seemed to accidently release it or the whack released it. The "intent to blow" rule would be invoked and the goal would be disallowed. We are blaming the ref but she seemed to do everything according to protocol.
@@steelcom5976 At no point was the puck ever covered or controlled by the goalie. Yes, the play is considered dead when the ref intends to blow the whistle, but that doesn't change the fact it was a mistake.
the only place you can see a Swedish team win is in our own series, but those teams are not completely Swedish, there are foreign players there who take places from the Swedish ones so they don't get to the highest Swedish league
Good Game Canuck Ladies. Too bad ref's whistled the puck dead on the 2nd Sweden goal, I guess the ref. was a little blow happy! That perfectly Great hard check was totally legitimate too ref's. Never should have been a penalty.
Sweden was rightfully denied the goal. Their forward whacked the goalie on the face mask before the goal went in. You can't use your stick as a weapon whether intended or not. *Good job to the ref for catching the interference on the goalie*
Oh, that check was hard, Penalty? Hockey is a contact sport, from what I have witnessed too many penalties are called for (What I presume) un-womanly conduct, in the NHL none of those would have been considered penalties but good body checks. Professional Women's Hockey should be outraged by this.
Congrats to Team Canada on the win. Bad call by the ref on the quick whistle but don't think it would of made a difference in the end as Canada outplayed Sweden in the 3rd. I really don't like when announcers say there is an insurance goal when it is in the first or second period and the score is still close. An insurance goal is when you score in last minute of the game to put you up by 2 goals.
@@perjohansson2865 I follow Major Junior hockey in Canada and there are lots of times one team is down 2, 3, 4, 5 goals but they give up hope. I have seen many of those games where the losing team comes back and wins the game. Sweden had lots of time left in the game to come back. You need to play a whole 60 minutes no matter what is going on. If you give up you have no chance.
Terrible refs, as usual. Sweden played well after the first 2 goals. To defeat USA, Canada will need to play smarter and quicker, and make all shots on net.
Early whistle on Swedens second, but shit happens to every team, just a different day. The rule is, the ref lost sight of the puck (unfortunately) so she blew the play down. Suck it up.
@@djr7rain Everybody says quick whistle but the whistle did not sound because of a loose puck. If you look at the video carefully, you will see the ref put whistle to mouth right after the goalie was whacked in the mask. That requires a stoppage every time. You cannot take your stick and whack a any player but esp the goalie in the face mask.
@@steelcom5976 2 things. 1. the player did not take take a whack at the goalie at all, the player literally shot the puck at the goalie and her follow through is what made contact with the goalie. 2. it seems much more likely the ref made a quick whistle because they couldn't see the puck and thought the goalie had it. nothing difinitive that would make the goalie blow the whistle just cuz a follow through of a shot hit her.
@@djr7rain Yes it was the follow-through. It doesn't matter why a player's stick hits the mask, only that it happened, which you admitted to. Great game for the Girls. Go Canada! On another aspect, the editing of these videos is absolutely awful. Absolutely atrocious and so amateurish. Nearly unwatchable. It feels like you're watching a film sped up to 3 or 4 times normal speed. Cuts and changes from play to play are way too quick. Either make the video longer and show more of each play or show less plays and let each play you do show run a bit longer so the viewer can get more context.
