    Hello Rob, thanks for the awesome videos and the informative content.
    I just have a question, why is it that dyneema is said to shoot better compared to mono when used as a shooting line? To me it is more intuitive that mono has less drag in the water since it's usually thinner and has a smoother surface. Is it because dyneema is relatively more flexible?

    • @intafitness5487
      @intafitness5487 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Dyneema doesn’t form a generalized shape from being wrapped around the line release the line straightens as it’s shot

    Good morning Rob, thank you for your dedication to this sport, and to demystifying the speargun object.
    I intend to convert to a roller gun, but I have a doubt that I haven't found yet,
    is the calculation for the correct size of bands, and should I use pre-tension?
    the weapon has a length, head to notch of 90cm, and 88cm head to hook.
    to a single roller, 6.5mm shaft should i use 14mm or 16mm bands?
    thank you, good continuation!

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  Před rokem +1

      14mm bands are best for the thinner spears. Use a scale to set the pre-load. Pre-load should be around 10 to 15kg.

    Hi Rob, thank you for the great video!
    I had a question please: is it possible to convert a traditional RA 140cm carbon railgun into a 130 roller? This would require cutting 10cm off the carbon barrel and adding a new roller muzzle as well as pretension pins on each side of the handle. I would have thought it is possible to do the cutting job neatly using a hacksaw blade and a mitre box, but I wanted to confirm that doesn’t risk compromising the integrity of the carbon, such as creating a risk the barrel might split/crack from the extremity which was cut. Do you any views/experience with this? Thanks

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  Před 2 lety +1

      Sorry for the delay in answering. This can be done if you use a very sharp blade with many teeth. Problem is re plugging the barrel. I would cut it a little shorter, to 120cm rather than 130cm as there is little difference between a double rubber 130cm double wrap than a 130cm roller other than the lower recoil. Short rollers are way better than shorter standard guns but, as the length is increased the advantage decreases.

    Hi Rob, love your videos mate! I have found them incredbily informative and helpful so thank you for that! I'm wondering if it's safe to change any of your guns to a Roller Muzzle? I've got a 1100 Scorpia that I'd like to try as a roller but don't convert it if that barrel and trigger mech isn't going to be suitable for a Roller?

    • @roballen1578
      @roballen1578 Před 3 lety +1

      The trigger is fine. Is it a rail or non-rail barrel? We have never tested a non-rail barrel. There is actually less load on the barrel with a roller than on a normal gun.

      Hi Tarkan, We have done many tests and we can't see any difference. All rubbers increase their tension the same. Some will have a higher load at full tensions but in none of the tests we do, any truth to these claims of reactive or progressive. I might be wrong but I think it's just smoke and mirrors 😜👍

    At 12:00 you recommend Dyneema versus mono. Does this apply to just the roller gun, or all of your spear guns?

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  Před 4 lety

      Just the rollers. For some reason it just works better with Dyneema.

    • @DeepBlueSpirit2
      @DeepBlueSpirit2 Před 4 lety +1

      Dyneema is more expensive than nylon monofilament but when shooting around reefs or structures it is far better than nylon monofilament as it does not cut at all as fast as mono. Also the breaking strength of Dyneema is far higher than comparable diameter in steel!
      I use both, but actually I find Dyneema is the better choice also because you can always cut and tie knots to maintain/repair your speargun rig - with mono one is screwed if no crimps and a crimping tool is available (imagine this happens on a trip). Just my personal humble opinion :)

    Hey rob is it okay to freeze speargun bands? I always heard that freezing your bands is a good way to preserve them, but recently I read somewhere that it’s bad and can ruin your bands now I am really worried about my pre made bands since they’ve been sitting in the freezer for well over a month. If it is bad to freeze speargun bands will my bands that have been sitting in a freezer for over a month still be alright for spearfishing?

    • @RobAllenSpearfishing
      @RobAllenSpearfishing  Před 4 lety +1

      We have never tried to freeze and see what problems might occur. All manufacturers of latex tubing that I know of do not recommend it. The bottom of the fridge in the vegetable tray is said to be best. It is also better to store without the wishbone fitted. If there is any stress on the rubber, even though it is stored in a dark, cool place, will degrade it.

    • @matthewmartich8772
      @matthewmartich8772 Před 4 lety

    Great explanation as always :)
    Yes, roller guns do not shoot higher than standard guns - they shoot 'straighter'. Actually we should say standard guns shoot lower :)
    So when changing guns and using a roller no need to correct aiming 'higher' than we would do with a standard gun.
    A roller shoots further and faster compared to a standard gun of same length. So probably you hit where you aim ;)
    Congrats for another nice video. >
