    eden delivers a career defining performance , her acting on point . the vocals are beyond brilliant . costumes , lighting , book , entire cast . Amber is incredible . Don't miss this show , it is incredible

      Eden was flat 50% of the time… it was so distracting. Andrew and Amber were fantastic though.

    Loved this musical! Excellent performances! Some good songs. The contemporary set design and lighting was fresh and beautiful. Everybody has an opinion. I think it is unfortunate that this show is ending too quickly. This has performances and sets that deserve some Tonys in my humble opinion! Well done.

    I saw it last thursday and the singing by Espinosa was the best part of this musical. I think her singing that night compared to your review has improved tremendously. she is a force of nature.

    Tony nominee Eden Espinosa delivers performance of a lifetime . vocals are beyond brilliant . Tony nominee Amber Iman!!! brilliant. see Limpicka everyone .

    thought that the lead actress was a sure nominee for lead actress in a musical.......

    I saw this show in La Jolla Playhouse and had the same criticisms as you. I thought it was pretty messy and I’m disappointed to hear not much has changed since it’s out of town tryout

    Thanks for the video. I saw it last weekend, aware of many of the unkind reviews. I enjoyed it more than i expected, but the show is imperfect. It's gorgeous to look at. I appreciate your observation about the mechanical aspect of the choreo, but I wish the show would have grown into the style (reflecting her growth as an artist) rather than using it throughout. It was a bit distancing when watching the show (and it seemed repetitive after a while).
    The cast was very good, moreso when the material allowed them to shine. Sadly, I think they brought the show to NYC too soon. Book and score need work, as does the direction. They need to lose the unfortunate melodramatic moments (one in particular in act two was CRINGE!). It all needs tightening, and the star needs more of the great numbers in this show, which surprisingly gives the best songs to the supporting cast. While there were a couple questionable vocal moments from the star at my performance, I take your point about it being a step too high for her, and for that fault the creatives for putting her in that position (director, composer, music director, producers). Otherwise, Espinosa was very good.
    The production also needs more cohesion. Two very fine performances are turned in by George Abud (Marinetti) and Natalie Joy Johnson (Solidor), and both understood their assignments as crowd-pleasing and presentational characters. I fault the director and writers for putting both of those roles and styles at odds with the style of main (largely domestic/romantic) story. Amber Iman was excellent, Beth Leavel was pretty much wasted until her 10:30 number.

    Combine this with the wandering-around-a-mansion of 1983's Tamara and you'll have something really unique (and completely uncontrollable). What song will the chauffeur sing when you've refused to move from the driveway for 40 minutes?

    I thought lempicka was a great show I liked evens vocals as lempicka.

    Eden wasn’t flat because the key was too high, she was flat throughout. Even the notes in the middle of her vocal range were flat. It seems like a consistent pitch problem. Even in duets she was flat, which really detracted from the harmonies. The way she strained her voice for the last song in the first act had me covering my ears. She’s a great actress for sure, but with those vocals she should stick to plays, not musicals. Really don’t understand how she got a Tony nom.

    This show’s audience is a Venn diagram of art history majors and cabaret fans. As one half of the diagram, I was annoyed to find out that Lempicka did not study under Marinetti, but her real teachers - Maurice Denis and Andre Lhote - don’t have connections to the Futurist movement at all - Les Nabis and Cubism, respectively. Neither of those art movements are terribly political or influential on other media, although both could have made for real cool artistic design of the show.

    "Springtime for Hitler" without the laughs. Bad history. Bad theater. Not surprised it closed so quickly.

    I felt so bad for this company trying to make this mess work.... I totally disagree with you. I felt like the costumes and set were not industrial but just plain ugly. The songs were just annoying and not memorable at all. Eden did the best she could like all the cast. I couldn't take it. I left at intermission.

      Both can be true at the same time. Industrial is objective. Ugly is subjective. You can describe it as ugly; I describe it as breathtaking. Regardless, it does include industrial elements and motifs.

    Sorry - you were WRONG! Why couldn’t you follow the story through Act 2? It was not difficult! I bawled my eyes out the last 21 minutes of the show. So get your shit together before you review something else!
