His beef with Kobe was caused by Shaq used all his off season for vacation instead of using at least some of it for recovery, and he ended up having to spend a part of regular season to get back in shape instead of bulldozing everyone already. It did cost them the 2004 championship at least.
Shaq with work ethics half as good as Kobe would've been at least had two seasons as the top dog with Wade. He was scary good.

He was far from his prime years. Besides, the Magics would have beat the Rockets in game 1 of the 1995 Finals...the Magics was waaaay in front of that game thanks to Shaq's dominance during half-time. Shaq performed just as dominant against Olajuwon's Rockets...check his stats. It was the rest of the Magics who failed Shaq! NICK ANDERSON, the 3rd leading scorer for the Magics who missed 4 straight free throws in the last few seconds of the 4th quarter that allowed the Rockets to take the game into overtime. If you look at the stats for that finals...NICK ANDERSON shot a dismal 30% from Free Throw!!! Considering Nick Anderson was a 70.4% free throw shooter in the 1994-95 season! Shaq shot a respectable 57.1% from free throw in that finals series! Shaq's other stats in that finals series? 28pts per game, 12.5 rebounds per game, just under 60% field goal percentage (59.5%), 2.5 blocks per game! Shaq was outstanding in the 1995 finals. The rest of the magics, specially Nick Anderson, failed that franchise, not Shaq!
It's not as if Penny failed during that series. Nick Andersons did in fact fail off of missed free throws yet there were lesser factors that connected to why the Dream lead said Rockets to a second title. The story gets told regardless when you go back to the tape. It was a classic case of an upset.
This was Kobe's best year in LA while Shaq was still on the team and I'd still say it was Shaq's team. Kobe was nuts to think an old-school pure center who could shoot 65% from the field shouldn't have gotten the ball every play. If Shaq was focused and Kobe wasn't trying to be Mike prematurely, the Lakers could have 4-peated and could have gotten more in the falling years.

@@dalic24 Shaq was out of shape in 03’, he was in his best shape in the 99-00 season and in his absolute physical prime. After the first chip he progressively got heavier and it caused a lot of friction between him and Kobe. At this time he was roughly 20-30 lbs overweight.

That is stupid isn't shooting and free throws part of fundamentals and given the rate at which they were fouled they should have practiced free throws to make them al least 83 percent of the time.
Rules changed so teams adapted, better to pernitrate and move ball rather than get it to post unless you are Jokic or Embiid. Problem is all follow one suit, develop what you are good at mentality is still not there for centers and that is the problem

And second, today's game pace is much higher than 90s 00s. If Shaq would play in this era with his body fat, i don't think he can be that effective when he was in prime. He would get tired more, use more energy on transitions and defence and could not use all of his energy on offence.
