For basic songs 61 keys is ok as they mostly sit around middle C, but if you want to be more expressive esp. classical 88 is way better. However for a quick lesson esp. Composing songs 61 keys is ok and can be expanded later on. I would not get a big piano for kids as they get bord quickly, but then i have an 88 keyed piano and 61 keyboard.
Greetings, respected Ma'am. Appreciate the knowledge you have shared here. I have a question, can a student give the grade 5 exams of the Trinity Piano Exam on a 61 keys Keyboard, I understand the choice is not a very good one but is it possible technically? If not then is it possible on a 73/76 keys keyboard? Please forgive, me if I sound too silly.
can i play **Debussy - Arabesque No.1**with just 61 keys
Thank you, Dorothy. What about a 61 key PIANO (NOT a keyboard)? The keys are semi-weighted and sounds just like a piano. Very high tech lah these days 😂 Thank you
61 keyed pianos are very rare though.
Buy 88 key piano weighted keyboard, used. It's max 400 usd/euros. New costs 800 usd/euros (Kawai es110/120, yamaha p-121/125, Roland fp-30). There is no point of using 61 key keyboard. Either you want your kid to learn piano and buy a proper keyboard, either you don't. If you wanna your kid to learn at pro level buy upright right away, not after three years or three months. BTW, with 61 key keyboards you certainly can play chords and melodies but forget of any kind of competent playing like it is a piano. More, your kid can seriously harm his fingers while trying to learn how to play if it was a piano. That's because of hard, light and not deep enough touch. More, response of these keyboards is almost random and your kid will never develop what is called feel of a tone by using only it (buy a violin of flute, those are cheap instruments or enroll your kid to singing class). While you can see pro musicians using these keyboards live on stage, non of these musicians actually learned how to play on 61 key keyboards. BTW, with a proper care and no accidents electronic keyboard can last 20 years and even longer. There is certainly a point of buying a top class digital piano keyboard for 2000-2500 usd/eur for a long run. If you can spend more, buy upright.
Thats even expensive if it is just sitting in the corner. you can get upright pianos for about £140 of ebay but transport and tuning them is expensive.
@@Mulberry2000 You forgot, those old and cheap uprights likely needs full renovation for a few grands at least, as they are not used and serviced for many years. Of course, sometimes there are families moving and you can buy a cheap piano in good condition from them, but it is rather exception than norm. Especially lately when prices of pianos gone up. Also, there are professional renovators who search for such pianos and buys right away, so they can resell later at a profit. Buying one from these workshops could be a good idea as they usually provides warranty and takes care of transportation.
@@alicaramba7680 I did not forget you can get lucky and find a good one, just test them out etc
