The lesson begins with the chord shapes: G, C, D. We'll be switching pretty quickly from G to C, and then from G to D, so I recommend taking time with those particular switches.
The first section that I want to play is the chorus because this one is the simplest. We play the chords with downstrokes only, and then we take a look at our strumming pattern, which is pretty straightforward. We break it down and then we put it together with the chord progression from the chorus.
Next, we learn the intro, which uses the same chords but the timing is a little complicated but with the power of "counting it out" we overcome these odd time signatures! We do the same thing, playing the chords and then adding the strumming pattern, then we take a look at the intro melody, which is really simple.. it's just a few notes!
Following that, we learn the verse which, once again, has some odd time signature stuff. We focus on the rhythm/counting, then practice the first verse. The second verse which is a little bit different, so we work on that too, before playing through everything that we learned so far.
Finally we discuss how to play through the entire song from start to finish, the order of all the parts as well as going over some tips for practicing and some resources that might help you.
If you'd like to practice the entire song with me, there's a full playthrough available on my Patreon page, where I play through the entire song, start to finish. More information on that here: / 61969577

So far I've taught "I Walk The Line" "Hurt" "Ring of Fire" and I'm almost done making a lesson for "Folsom Prison Blues" - any other essential Cash that I'm missing here?
🎸
Does it make a difference on the thickness of the pick. Only been trying to play since Christmas,
Thank you James, my favourite Cash song is “Tennessee Flat Top Box”.
Man Comes Around

I LOVE your format. I’ve been playing for a long time but I always need to go back to basics and clean up things. I find this almost interactive method of teaching so helpful

Wonderful lessons. Here is the good works you are doing. Thank you
Excellent lesson mate. I have been following your lessons for years and you have always been one of the best easy to follow teachers on CZcams. But adding vocals to your chord diagrams enhances the lesson 100%. Request for the song Man In Black by Johnny Cash. Thanks for posting! Cheers!!! 👍👍

Are the tabs you include on your patreon page usable in Guitar Pro?
Hey Ivan, unfortunately I have to comply with copyright law and I had to take down my charts. However they are available for sale at musicnotes.com (they get all the proceeds)
Can't I use Cadd9 instead of Cmaj?
Now I can guess which strumming pattern to use in certain music though I am not expert.
Thank for your CZcams for good cords.12341231.

I think I'm trying to play ring of fire
On my guitar
Why not use the Cad9 chord? Much easier
I stopped separating chords and lines a long time ago .Put down the pick and learn your alternating thumb ,learn finger style and play the rest of the chords you aren't telling them 😉
It's more of one and a two and a three and a four .Its Johnny Cash bro
You can do the whole song without leaving the G chord position
Fuck man, this is great, but everytime I'm playing, midway through, I change my strumming pattern to "Sweet Home Alabama". They're surprisingly similar.
This is wrong. It’s in b flat.
Yeah it is the easiest tune in fact j.c. produces the easiest tunes ever.
