🤔 somebody please tell me I’m wrong! let me think. I’m not going to go back and check the number of CDs, but if I remember right. They claimed they connected them all in series and got over 300 V at the end of the series. My question is why the hell are they using heavy wire to connect to their series of discs when the last connection is made out of flimsy little piece of aluminum foil that would blow apart with anyamperage put to it whatsoever. Tell me I’m wrong.

Oh my God, what nonsense! I work at a company that produces solar panels, from soldering the cells to laminating the modules and testing them with special devices called SunSimulators, or as we call them, Flashers. So, a solar panel does not function at all like it's shown in this video. The process of making a solar panel is as follows:
The glass panel is placed on the conveyor belt.
On top of it, an EVA (ethyl-vinyl acetate) sheet is placed.
Then, the "Stringer" machine solders the monocrystalline cells in series with a conductive BUS BAR (10 cells soldered in series make up a "String").
Next, these strings are placed on the glass, which already has the first EVA sheet. Then another machine applies the connecting Bus bar between the strings with a +/- orientation. After that, the second EVA sheet is applied, followed by the reinforcement sheet "BackSheet," which is a stronger sheet, something like high-density PA (Polyamide High Density).
Now, the module goes into a laminating machine that, through vacuum and heat, melts the glass cells without shifting them and removes any air bubbles or traps. After this process, the module (or now called the LAMINATE) moves to a robot equipped with a knife that trims the excess melted film from the four sides. The next station is an optical inspection by a worker who checks, under strong light, if the bus bars are in position and if they haven’t shifted during the laminating process.
The next step is framing, where metal frames are applied around the Laminate. Then the junction boxes are connected by soldering them to the contacts that were left exposed under the film. Finally, the module reaches the SunSimulator (Flasher) testing system, which illuminates the modules and measures each module’s power, after which they are sorted by category. At the next station, the junction boxes are filled with a silicone that prevents moisture from getting in. After that, the modules can be packed. So, that’s roughly the process. What’s shown in this video is utter nonsense.

is it posable to make a solar panel with CDs?
Yes, it is possible to make a simple solar panel using CDs (compact discs). This can be done as a DIY project, often used for educational or demonstration purposes.
The basic idea is to use the reflective metallic coating on the back of a CD as a makeshift solar cell. When exposed to light, this coating can generate a small amount of electrical current that can be used to power simple electronic devices or charge small batteries.
Here's a general overview of how to make a solar panel using CDs:
Gather the materials: You'll need several CDs, a small electric motor or LED light, some wires, and basic tools like scissors or a knife.
Prepare the CDs: Remove the outer plastic ring from the CDs to expose the reflective metallic coating on the back.
Connect the CDs: Arrange the CDs in a grid or panel configuration and connect them in series using the wires. This will allow the generated current to add up.
Attach the load: Connect the small electric motor or LED light to the positive and negative terminals of the CD solar panel.
Test and optimize: Expose the CD solar panel to a light source, such as a lamp or sunlight, and observe the operation of the connected load. You may need to adjust the number of CDs or the wiring to optimize the power output.
Keep in mind that the power output of a CD-based solar panel is relatively low, typically in the range of milliwatts. It's suitable for powering small, low-power devices, but not for high-power applications. The efficiency of this type of solar panel is also quite low compared to commercially available solar cells.
Nevertheless, making a solar panel with CDs can be a fun and educational project, especially for students or hobbyists interested in renewable energy and DIY electronics.

!But that's stupid, it can't work with any kind of CD or DVD!
40 years ago, I actually built a similar panel from individual plates, disassembled from rectifier selenium blocks, and it worked!
Each plate is made of an aluminum supporting part up to 1 mm thick, on which there is a layer of Selenium and over it there is a thin layer of tin solder.
The tin layer needs to be partially removed (made transparent to the light) by heating the entire board to the melting temperature of the solder, but below 220°C (otherwise there is a risk of destruction of selenium) gently wipe with a soft brush, including the paint.
The terminals are solved by pressure contacts on the aluminum underside, and the second contact is made by careful soldering (temperature below 220°C) at the edge of the tin upper surface.
Each cell gives about 0.70 V in the sun.

The Cds are a set size.
Count and measure the length and width of the Cds, and that would give you the approximate size you need for the doors.
