    DO NOT BE FOOLED: If you run into a problem with DEF, either run dry or otherwise, and end up in 'limp mode' your check engine light will come on because there is not enough engine power to turbo boost, you may find with your OBD2 scan a code P0299 set, this suggests your turbo charger has failed, IT HAS NOT, Sort out your DEF and erase all codes. and carry on. you will be fine.

      My 2016 has put itself into a permanent limp in mode. I have a red box in the MFD that reads 'exh. system'. There are NO codes and have run a clear code many times. These trucks are a P.O.S.. I assume the error has written itself into to computer and can only be cleared by the dealer or a mechanic that has the proper reader. Havnt tried disconnecting the battery

    Hey Michael thanks for the info.
    what would happen if I turn off the truck while the auto regen is in progress?
    Could it make the truck to revving even if it’s in neutral?
    Thanks in advance

    • @MichaelOlden
      @MichaelOlden  Před 28 dny +1

      Nothing will happen if you turn the truck off while it performs the regeneration. The system will self check again once restarted. I would recommend selecting the manual regeneration button at the end of each business day. This way while you are doing your post DOT walk around the truck can complete the regeneration.

  • @mejiajuan59
    @mejiajuan59 Před 5 lety +1

    How often or How many miles is a normal to do regenerate Thanks in Advance

    • @MichaelOlden
      @MichaelOlden  Před 2 lety +1

      It is associated with soot captured in the filter not miles - i.e. pressure sensor at front against pressure sensor at back. the variance in the reading triggers the regeneration.
      My regrets for not being available to answer this question. Let me know if there is any current question I can try to do better on. Best Regards,

  • @servicemanager3497
    @servicemanager3497 Před rokem +1

    On our 2018 NPR, the dash gauge always reads full until the DEF fluid is below the sight gauge on the DEF tank. Is this normal?

    • @MichaelOlden
      @MichaelOlden  Před rokem +5

      This is not normal. The sight tube on the outside of the DEF is an interim check to use while you review the issue. The side tube on the exterior shows the 'roman water level' equivalent to the fluid in the TOP HALF of the tank.
      Depending on the model year of your Isuzu - the tank is on the N series truck is either 5 gallons or 7 gallons.
      The interior float or the signal from the sending unit is most likely the culprit.
      If you have the technicians, pull and test the float and the sending unit. For the non tech - use the exterior tube on the tank to fill once the fluid is empty in the sight tube. The outside tube can drop to nothing (see above reference), but not for too long.
      Special note to low mileage clients of Isuzu. If you are operating your truck fewer than 6000 miles per year - you really really really need to have an active MID display on the DEF. DEF turns to white chalk after 12 months, it WILL clog the intake filter in the DEF tank, YOU WILL HAVE ISSUES. Again, this would ONLY APPLY to low low annual mileage owners.
      Best Regards,

    • @MichaelOlden
      @MichaelOlden  Před 2 lety +1

      The SCR on the 2009 requires change as the soot and debris process through the system. I would suggest a check up with a dealer in your area, and to connect to a reader for codes. Isuzu dealers have a connection that allows the to dig deeper and might be the best solution. Hope this helps!

I would suggest - if you have a two man or more crew - to video the smoking when it occurs - please include smoke first the pan to dash board to capture the miles, the light on dash, the message on regeneration. Supposedly General Motors has been experimenting with a DPF filter that uses an electric heater for regenerations instead of squirting extra fuel into the filter. This is supposed to cut down on regeneration times and eliminate the "fuel penalty". Given the relationship between Isuzu and GM, maybe they will have this on their vehicles in a few years. Who knows.

      I appreciate your thoughts. And, the DEF system does come with a need for follow up and training. There are many parts to the system. What is your direct experience on this unit. What fails in time - everything. The system is now 14 years in the industry. We have addressed the tight requirements of the government at the onset, then the need for training to prolong the life of the filter. From there we have focused on client support for troubles and at times there have been a cascade sensors which lived their useful life. Much like an O2 sensor in residential vehicles, there is a need for useful life consideration. More than happy to investigate your personal experience with the system. If you a needing to vent. Why not discuss it here?

    Biggest pile of shit system on any diesel truck. Always going into limp mode. Never regens on its own when you need it to... Thank a Democrat for all this lovely crap! Funniest thing was towards the beginning of this video when the narrator said the system made for a "reliable truck" that "saves you money at the pump" (or said something like that). Without this bullshit, they'd get over 12 MPG... No way with it!

    • @MichaelOlden
      @MichaelOlden  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thank you for your feedback on the system and reference that all diesels are in the wheelhouse of DEF. The reference that the truck is always going into may need more feedback. What is the timing between the service that you are experiencing? In other words when the filter has been removed and replaced - - or has your system had the removal and deep cleaning - - - or have the repair facilities only triggered a deep regeneration and they considerer their job done? When I've investigated many trucks with viewers we uncover that the services they think they are getting are not always what they truly paid for.
      Glad to engage in a deeper research if you would like. Isuzu is a great manufacturer that responds to clients and cares about the name and reputation.
