I sure hope the officers have a lot of previous training and experience because it takes a long time to learn horselore, not just a couple of weeks.

I dont know if anyone will answer me but im going to be heading off to the police academy in about a year and i wanna become a mounted officer. My question is, ive been riding horses since the day i was born, i trained mustangs and colts before, do i still have to go threw the A B C system or can i kinda skip it with some sort of assesment? i dont mind but kinda sucks if i already know what im doin..

Creek Bottom no you can't skip it, they have to see what you know and at the end of the day you're given a horse that needs to be trained with other horses, regardless of your knowledge you need to go through the course, the training isn't just for the rider, it's for the horse, most places also give you the horse you trained with so not going through training is probably going to put you with a horse you didn't personally prepare.
Imo it's better to do the training and get the horse you trained then to ride a horse that most likely isn't used to your riding or training methods

Oh ok thanks for answering! I totally don't mind not skipping and that makes sense. A bond is everything when it comes to horses.

Why shorten horses tails? It is used to keep flies off. A bitting fly hurts

im interesting in becoming a mounted patrol officer when im older. I would be considered an "expert" at my level my trainer said, she shes honest. anybody know if that would help me by any terms

Sanis the pun goddess most horse trainers say that their clients are experts, knowing one or two ways of training doesn't mean a person is an expert
