- My review of Canyon's new Lux World Cup Team edition bike as used by Mathieu Van Der Poel. This new Lux has a lighter frame and revised geometry and offers good value for money and looks a really good option. But is it the right bike for you?
With XC courses getting more technical and racing becoming more popular than ever is now the time to invest in a shiny new mountain bike go racing?

Has won the last 2 women's XCO World Cups....Puck Pieterse (same team as MvdP) & Loana Lecomte on a Sram version....
Nice review David. Better get my old 26 inch Vitamin T Orange out for a ride!
I have this bike for a second season. This is really XC weapon. I´m doing long distance and short distance rides and i love this bike.
Mtbs are incredible value for money in comparison with road bikes. Look what you are getting for 6.6k in comparison with a 6.6k race bike.
Not sure you could call it good value! I wonderwhat the actual manufacturing costs are?? £500??
@@goodeggnogg7038 we aren’t talking about production price, we all agree that the bikes are marked up 1000% but it’s just that mtb’s are marked up a bit less.
depends which brand you go for really,
Your local trails look great and similar to ones here in New Jersey. I've always ridden a mountain bike on trails like this. Are these trails better suited to your gravel bike or to the mountain bike?
Nice looking rig for sure. Great price
I’ve got my eye on the new Pivot World Cup
MvdP doesn't use a dropper seatpost. He's one of the few who prefer lightweight carbon stems. Thus it is missing here.
he's also not a full-time mountain biker, maybe that explains why, lack of time to test?
Every bike built for elite xco WC racing is awesome 😎
I haven't seen MvdP ride the 32 - he gets to the limit of the 34 easily so he wouldn't risk on the 32. Cable loop on the back of a contemporary bike is so retro 1990's, and the cable nest at the front doesn't warrant the high asking price. Over 10kg for a bike without a dropper is too much for a bike having "World Cup" in its name and the lack of capabilities of the recent downcountry bikes that weigh less.
This year is all lawrence family. I like the drone footage though.. Hope to see more drone video..
Canyon Lux CFR VS Scott Spark RC for uk domestic XCO? You have reviewed both. Everything is going 120mm which is great but for more tame courses will 100mm still rule?? Thanks!
More importantly than if it’s faster than a Gravel bike, is can David keep up with the hound?
David, can you tell, please, why the saddle is set so much higher than the handlebar?
Look at it this way, it's only a fraction of a million dollars, so it's pretty reasonably priced!
Same Gaze has a two piece bar/stem in order to get long and low enough.
Very nice bike stand 😁
Can't you rotate rear shock 180 degree ... So that adjustment side faces bb?
I love riding race spec xc mtb's i dont race that often i Love chasing pr's on them
Damn… a fox 32 on a 2023 xc bike… didn’t know they make them anymore😅
I would be interested in this bike (I ride several Canyons with Fox) if it hadn't that ugly orange colored fork, but a color-matched one (can be RS as well). I hate it when manufacturers force their corporate customers to signal that Fox has provided its parts.
you can paint it
@@bencedobos5439 No, you can't. You would need to completely take it apart, sand it and repaint it and then find the logo stickers. And your warrant is gone.
Orange and blue are complementary colors, imo the orange fork looks awesome
Beautiful bike, the Allen key is bizarre at this price.
Boom da speed
Waiting on a SRAM Transmission version
Hey David, you walked by me on the second to last rest stop at FNLD GRVL. Will you be making a video of the event?
Hey! Yes editing the video right now hopefully come out later this week. Did you enjoy the event?
@@davidarthur Loved it! I Was dealing with horrible leg cramps 2/3 of the course, but somehow managed:)
Can't the rear shock just be rotated so the dials are easily accessible?
I wish some company would build an XC bike with truly progressive geo (76* HTA, 65* STA). A very light short-travel bike would be ideal for me but there is no way I would be happy with the short wheelbase of the Lux and other similar XC geo bikes.
Just buy a bigger size.
@@Tullebukk75 There comes a point where bikes just don't fit even with a 32mm stem and the seat pushed all the way forward.
Check out the Arc8 Evolve. It's 120mm travel, 65° head angle, "76°" seat tube angle. And pretty good reach too.
Hello Arthur! What size bike are you testing and what is your height? Thank you!
Large and 181cm
Is it weird that all the marketing material on Canyon's website shows a Fox 34, but Canyon are spec'ing a Fox 32?
What bike would you recommend for occasional marathon racing and everyday XC riding?
Orbea Alma
The new Pivot Mach 4 SL I just reviewed fits the bill nicely
Arthur do you setup suspension with a Shockwiz?
Nope just went by sag on the rear shock and recommended settings for the fork
@@davidarthur i prefur shockwiz for that they are my personal bikes
Weight?
Really hope XC bikes arent going to continue becoming more progressive - the new Spark looks like a trail bike from a few years ago and seems overkill for the majority of riding around the south of UK - dont ever need to drop off big ledges like they had in the olympics.
99% of southern UK mtb riders are on overkill bikes... :)
Slacker is not better when one considers most time is spent climbing. A longer wheelbase does not make for a faster bike.
The warranty is very bad if there’s a problem they tell you to piss off
AXS dropper, problem solved.
Just buy a Polygon bike.
Better to get a bike from a bike shop, every time.
you can get two bikes for price of one if you buy direct to consumer 😎
@@Flexy1234 if every brand did that there wouldn't be anymore bike shops left. Not to mention Canyons are two or three season junk bikes so you will re-up in half the time as if you purchased a better machine.
Extra fragile on top of everything else.
@@sarufal8069 yea like with cars and independent mechanics? You have mechanic on every corner and its not selling cars and they are often better then official ones.
@@sarufal8069 show me statistics that shows that canyon bikes are worse quality then other brands.
Come on David.. just drop a nuclear bomb and say that is faster (and comfier) than a gravel bike, full stop.
One word to describe this bike - Boring.
