True. The thing is that this is a movie, based on Frank Miller's graphic novels which in turn are based on historical facts. The true history and the genious of Themistocles is far too complicated for Holywood to comprehend.

She proves exactly what Leonidas told Xerxes about Spartan women.
Eric Moore Sending a queen in the frontlines? lul
"Clearly you dont know our women"
That line has so much meaning now 😂😂😂
Even though historically Spartan women were the last line of defense in Sparta. And instead of sending one of the two kings to defend Sparta or go on campaign they send the queen. And instead of Athenians spearheading the ship to ship combat (Athens had one of the best navies in the ancient world), they send the Spartans whose navy was neglectful and didn't allow for their brilliant infantry tactics
Gorgo proves shields are for wimps
which is false and holywood bullshit...it was actually persian women who fought in battle
One of the best parts of this scene in my opinion, is when leonidous', "old friend" came back with a group of soldiers this time presumably because of their chant. Absolutely nice touch.
By this time Leonidas had been dead for a few days.
This scene portrays the battle of Salamis, that took place about a month after the concurrent battles of Artemesium (shown earlier in the movie) and Thermopylae (where Leonidas fought and died).

As a history fan and a comic book fan, I just want to say that I love the 300 movies because they are perfect adaptations of the 300 comic book by Frank Miller, and those comics are not historically accurate and weren’t intended to be so. In 2021 Snyder revealed Warner Bros said they aren't interested. The company is in massive debt and can't take risks making movies with such high budget anymore that do not aim to bring over 800 million in the box office. Now in 2023 they said they are reorganizing their line up and might revisit the idea. But for now they are no plans.

@ilia cyrus most movies are fake & made up because you know it’s the entire point of entertainment.
@ilia cyrus this movie is not about spartans from real life, but about spartans from the legends
@ilia cyrus they didnt lose the war, because if they did we wouldn't of heard about it. Stories are written by the Victors, your correct on one thing xerxes did leave and left the war up to his generals as he had to sort out political issues back home. But the Greeks won a decisive battle at plataea and then the Persians were driven out of greece, this made sparta the lead player of the Greek city states until thebes took the mantle with their famed sacred band and after this macedon conquered Greece and sparta became irrelevant. But in respect to the wars it was essentially a pushing match between phalanxes there were very few deaths and your correct retreats were common to preserve an army.
@ilia cyrus please educate yourself, your just embarrassing yourself now.
It's a movie bro
In Salamis, Spartans had only 16 ships while the Athenians had 200 ships manned by the best navy-crews in the Mediterranean. Athens itself had more ships than all the rest of the Greek cities united (150) . Athenians are the ones who really won the war for Greece. Salamis is a masterpiece of Athenian strategy. From Themistocles preparing the Athenian fleet from scratch, his luring Xerxes into Salamis (a devastating strategic error) to the sinking of the Persian fleet, it all had Athenian genius written all over.

Its absolutely amazing how some people think these movies represent real history. Spartan at their best was a regional power, famous only around Greek. They were no where near the level of continental powers like Macedonian phalanx or Roman legionnaire, and that's only Europe we are talking about.

Make another spartan movie
I'd happily watch Sparta vs Athens in the Peloponnesian War. Lysander was a great general for Sparta, and Alcibidies was an Athenian politician who might have had one of the most evenful lives ever.
He started off as an Athenian. Went on the run after being sentenced to death for knocking the penises off of some religious statues (Really. I know, it's hilarious). Went to Persia. Convinced them to help Sparta. Went to Sparta. Told them he had gotten Persia to help them. Went on the run after being caught sleeping with the king's wife. Went back to Persia. Convinced them to stop helping Sparta and just fight whoever was left after the war. Went back to Athens and told them he had singlehandedly stopped the Persians from helping Sparta. Was kicked out again after losing a battle. Went back to Persia to try and convince them to help Athens this time but the Spartans had (somehow, it's almost like Alcibidies already convinced the Persians to switch sides like 3 times) seen this coming and arranged an assassination.

The Queen's stab was so strong at the end, the guy's eyes popped out
And then Sparta went to war with Athens and allied with the Persians to fight them.
Jz6x6 Exactly
And then Persia conquered all of Greece. And was eventually overthrown by the Macedonians who then also conquered Greece.
Sparta and Athens really wrecked each other in the Peloponnesian War (which happened about 50 years after 300 and the Battle of Thermopylae for anyone who doesn't know.) Neither state really recovered.
That's not true, the Persians didn't aid Sparta
Then Sparta blew them all up with wildfire
Persia never conquered Greece, after the Persian invasion the Greek states created an alliance in which Athens’s screwed up by using the funds put into the alliances treasury for itself and by creating a naval empire. The Spartans and their allies fought back against Athens’s and their allies. While this was going on, Macedon was gaining strength. After the war between the 2
Greek powers, greece was severely weakened and Macedon attacked. And then Macedon considered themselves Greek and invaded Persia
