I hated this storyline so much because it’s the exact opposite of who Xerxes really was. There are artifacts upon artifacts from Persepolis that STRONGLY indicate he was a hero, a man who cared for his people, even a hunter of demons that plagued his empire (according to a really cool bench now behind glass at UChicago). He even delayed his campaign against Greece-considered just dropping the whole thing-because he was so enamored with his new wife, so in love with her, he didn’t want to leave her side.
I know movies are fiction 😅 it just seriously bothered me that such a great man was portrayed so villainously.
Well... wonderful to get a long and complex backstory for a villain we've already seen take a spear to the face and bleed.

Wild and mythical as this depiction is, I'm just happy they showed us Artemisia.

On paper the Persians should have conquered Greece within a matter of weeks. The fact that they didn't is thanks to those Spartans and Athenians. Without them Western civilisation would look entirely different. After the Athenians had won the Battle of Marathon they did a forced march to arrive back at Athens so that they would arrive there before the Persian fleet.

It really wished there's a part 3 of 300, as The Persians utterly got defeated and decimated at the seas. But they still have the strongest forces on the land vs the Greeks so wanted to see that in film.

1:01 if this hadn’t been used for 300, I could honestly imagine this playing during the Harkonnen Arena scene in Dune Part Two.
The screen quickly turns into to black and white as the Baron glides forward in his chair.
In a deep voice, the Arena Commentator announces his arrival and Feyd Rautha’s birthday celebration “Under the Black Sun!” With the black, ink blot fireworks exploding across the white sky.
Or the part where the Commentator finally announces “Feyd Rautha!” and the light from the sliding doors floods in to reveal him as he steps out to the cheering crowd.
