Roadside Picnic was the source material for the movie Stalker, and Stalker was the inspiration for the Stalker games. All works deserve time spent to them.

I for one look forward to this era of co-op PVE games we seem to be finding ourselves in. There’s a shift away from PvP battle royal games towards these pve style games and I am for it.
Helldivers 2 took a lot of influence from Sci-Fi, but I can tell you that probably the 3 biggest influences are Starship Troopers, HALO and Warhammer 40k. The extraction shuttle is literally called "Pelican 1" (HALO reference), the Terminids are literally the Tyranids from Warhammer 40k and I named my ship "The Emperor of Humankind" ( a reference to The Emperor of Mankind in WH40k)

Helldivers draws most directly from StarCraft. no, really:
Automatons are Terrans.
Terminids are Zerg.
Illuminate are Protoss.

@@WeeWeeJumbo and Starcraft was very heavily inspired by Warhammer 40k. Space Marines, Tyranid, Psychic elder race. Nothing is new; but you can trace almost all of it back to Starship Troopers the Novel, which was a primary inspiration for literally all of the other major Sci Fi settings listed.
But then again there are planets named Zegema Paradise and Klen Dahth 2 which are obvious Starship Troopers references
And there are planets like Andar and Rogue 5 which could be Star Wars references
I think Starship Troopers the movie is the biggest influence because of the satire. But there are obviously a lot of other influences in design from Terminator, 40k, Star Wars, and more

Defiance was very similar to HD2...the global goals and co-op was insanely fun. It was also an MMO with players EVERYWHERE and it just died because of the studio/devs/whatever. These kind of games are the absolute best experience im gaming. No cheaters, no griefers, no hacking, just fun and random goals that keep the game from getting stale or repetitious.

The Stalker film you're thinking of is the Russian 1979 film (called Stalker) and it's based on the 1972 book Roadside Picnic. I say "based on" because its not a film of the book's narrative. It's similar to the way the excellent game Pacific Drive is based on the same concept of a "zone" in which strange physics and strange things happen.
I wasn't into Vinland Saga season 1. It just felt like another violent anime for violence's sake. Then season 2 dropped, and I fell in love, cuz it's so much, much, much more. And that line that Thorfin delivers was truly a poetic and powerful line.

If it’s important enough to the point where it’ll directly affect me then I’ll hear about it from someone. I think that is a huge reason of why so many people are unhappy these days. They spend all day doom scrolling and seeing negative and depressing shit that they just don’t need to see and frankly don’t even affect them in any way and because we as humans empathizes, some more than most, it can ruin your whole day.

I did not play Helldivers 2, but it seems to be whatever ANTHEM aspired to: a live game where the developer serves as Lore Master.
I always liked 76 but I also enjoy jank and coop open world is my favorite genre but it was a crazy experience going from the launch game to when wastelanders came out and suddenly it's a whole new game with npcs

Over decades of playing multiplayer games with a great many people, and groups of people, I can say with confidence that any game without PVP dies off quickly no matter how enthusiastic people are about it at the jump. Helldivers was no different. Two separate groups of friends drug me into playing the game, and I reluctantly bought it even though I knew what was going to happen. Sure enough, it started off "Helldivers OMG!" and within a few weeks, to a person, they were all off playing their old PVP titles.
Unfortunately, the wife mail service was shut down in 1997. So mats going to have to do the impossible.

I’m concerned over all the layoffs in the gaming industry wondering if it was mid level management house cleaning and the talent is still there, but not sure that was the case. Corporate greed in ready player one ruined reality BUT the game was good. In our case reality AND the game sucks. 🤔

Helldivers will end up with a massive gap between new players and old and the game will die. Been playing the last three weeks. Only level 15, as I have to solo most of the time. Was either kicked by groups or shot getting on ships at the end, so I solo. while you think it’s all fun the slow grind for new players and cut of from old will kill the game by the end of the year.

Stoked that Notch is getting back into game dev! Hes always had a unique take on things. Anyone willing to create there own engine for a game deserves respect. the biggest thing helldivers 2 has redefined has been adding an old outdated know to be breakable kernel level anti cheat to every chumps pc who downloaded it.
Honestly Helldivers 2 is the most overhyped game I have ever seen... Starship Troopers literally just came out but because streamers played Divers 2 everyone has to jump on it.... $40 for what is basically the same Fortnite gameplay loop is not worth it...

Splinter Cell? I had Conviction on 360 and it was so fun!! Especially coop with a buddy! Executing the badies in unison is pure dopamine.
