Picking a colour would be a difficult choice but if I pushed to make a decision right now, I’d probably go with the mark 2 colour oak green or maybe an alpine white.
If you can, make sure the A plate lives on... earliest mk2s in UK. Subbed 👌🙂

I’m just a little further on than your self, exactly the same situation as u, always wanted to so jumped in and mines in paint shop now.I want to go Atlas Grey but can’t bring myself to change mine from Alpine white, I don’t think u see many white ones

I’m at the same stage as you with my mk2 golf and planning to put a 20v in too so nice to see I’m not the only one learning as I go. How much work was needed for that welding quote? My shell needs a fair bit too but haven’t had quotes yet

The welding was a fair whack mate: all arches inner and outer, rear valance, inner and outer sills, bonnet hinge bracket (which is a real nasty location)
