  • Welcome to the picturesque ruins of Dryslwyn Castle in the beautiful countryside of Carmarthenshire, Wales.
Unlike many of the castles in South Wales, it was not built by the invading Anglo-Norman lords but was thought to have been built by Rhys Gryg, the fourth son of Rhys ap Gruffydd (Lord Rhys).
Dryslwyn Castle is located in the Towy Valley, South Wales. It was built in the early 13th century and served as an important stronghold for the ancient kingdom of Deheubarth.
Also, Rhys Gryg built the neighbouring Welsh castle of Dinefwr.
If you are heading west towards Tenby and Pembrokeshire, Dryslwyn castle is not far from the town of Cross Hands and is well worth the short diversion.

Thank you for sharing with us another glorious hidden gem. I bet it must be an amazing place to visit on a warm and sunny day.
For those sausage fanciers amongst us, I should point out that there is a wonderful cafe and artisan food supplier that is just a 4-minute drive away from the castle. It is called the Wright's Food Emporium and offers all manner of goodies to delight the sausage hunter.

Nice video Marcus. Visited this castle back last summer and it was quite busy but still very enjoyable. The views are really breath-taking from the castle and well worth the easy climb.

I live a mile or two over the hill. I have visited hundreds of times as my parents would take myself and my sister when we were children. This area is absolutely beautiful in autumn as the sun sets....there is another Castle in far better condition just a 5min drive up the road which is called Dinefwr Castle.
Blessed to live here and everyday I wake up I too thank the Lord IM WELSH🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿😍👍🏼
P.s the river in the background is the famous Welsh river The River Towy which is one of the best sea trout (sewin - in Welsh) rivers in Europe! It also holds record size salmon. 😏

If your going to make a visit I would make a day of it and visit dinefwr Castle (which is 5mins up the road, you can see it from the top of dryslwyn castle) you can also visit Paxton's Tower which you can see in the opening of this video, as your at it you can't leave out Carreg Cennen Castle which is arguably the best in our area (I live inbetween them all) Carreg Cennen has a dungeon that is around 300ft below the surface. You can rent a torch but I recommend taking your own! Make sure you have new batteries, you definitely wouldn't want to go dark down there as its pitch black with no lights. This is a beautiful area of Wales that I highly recommend visiting, the valley is littered in old cosy pubs to grab a bar meal and a nice cold pint.
      🤓Enjoy.
Everyday I wake up I thank the Lord I'm WELSH🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

@@taff6987 Many thanks Marcus. I've visited Carreg Cennen many times but the surrounding area holds lots of interest. I can't walk far these days (bloody cancer) but I'll talk my son into giving me a tour in his car. Diolch!
